  1. So here's my paint concept idea.... even though my bike's an 86, I like the 87-88 "3D" scheme better. Yamaha FZ600 Paint Concept by feliks.ca, on Flickr
  2. It's going to be so shiny when you're done, you won't want to ride it and get it dirty!
  3. By football do you mean soccer?? Welcome to the forums!
  4. Welcome Dan! I'm brand new to bikes too... took me until I was 31 to get my license and first bike. Just be careful out there and take it easy while you're learning how to ride, and always play defense, cars and trucks just DO NOT see you...it's crazy how many people try and kill you out there!
  5. Did my last oil change for the season today...bike will be going away for winter when the snow comes next week. I was hoping to get it out for December's Fri 13 in Dover but I'm not sure if that'll happen this year...probably get snowed in! Before I did the oil change, I dumped half a can of "Engine Restore" into the oil, and then let the bike idle for about half an hour without operating the clutch, occasionally revving the engine. Then I drained the oil, and changed the filter, and filled with fresh oil. This will hopefully reduce the oil loss/burning I'm experiencing, since the bike runs pretty good otherwise. I don't want to tear it apart if I don't have to....we'll see how she holds out come springtime!
  6. Yeah, true don't want to mess if it's not broken, but it does have a few other leaks (head gasket I guess too), so a rebuild or at least gasket overhaul may be necessary.
  7. Not my problem anymore, he picked it up today.
  8. Well that's good news! I'll see what my winter looks like this year...I may just pull the engine and rebuild it, give it a fresh start! The bike is in good shape otherwise, so I think it'd be worth it. Glad I joined up here, your help so far has been priceless!
  9. Exhaust is on it now...it slipped over the end of the pipe, just needs to get welded up. I don't understand why you'd want your bike to be louder anyway....more cops notice you. Loud pipes don't save lives, loud pipes annoy you on a sunday afternoon while your fishing. Cagers have their windows up and music playing so loud pipes are quite pointless I think.
  10. was looking through the manual...doesn't look like too bad of a job to drop the engine in these at least, plus it gives me something to do over the winter months here in Canada!
  11. Ok, confirmed that it does have an oil pan gasket, and that's where the leak is.... now to fix it!
  12. Here's a video...hard to see the cracks but it runs pretty good! Well it did.....but it's doing the same thing with the petcock letting fuel pass when the bike is off....so it's got gas in the oil now too! But..here's the video when it WAS running.
  13. Mine's in better shape overall....the motor, brakes, chassis.....but I do like the original graphics! The fairings are cracked in a couple spots too so it's going to need some repair. Mine won't be staying all black, I'm going to do something with it over winter. I'm a graphic designer / artist by trade so hopefully I can come up with something cool that fits the bike. I actually noticed the back rotor had a couple cracks in it, just from the vents to the outside in a couple spots...so he'll need a new one of those too! Little stuff adding up...but at least parts aren't too expensive for these old FZ's
  14. Is there an oil pan gasket on this bike? I'm assuming that's where my leak is coming from... it's not enough to even leave a drop on the garage floor but I'm still losing half a litre of oil over a 200km trip...which is bad. It's not burning oil, but it is squeezing out from somewhere.... I'm betting oil pan gasket, IF it has one.... haven't had a chance to get the fairings off for a look yet though.
  15. Found it on Kijiji, in Niagara Falls. The odometer says 25k kms, but the speedometer is broken...and who knows how long ago it broke, so the kms are unknown really. It is in nice shape for the year, but it has more rust than mine does, must have been stored outside or something. It needs a new ignition key switch, oil filter gasket and some new spark plug wires at least, just from my newb observations....so it's not perfect, but it is 25 years old!
  16. Gotta get out there when you can! I just did a 50km ride this morning, looking to be a beautiful day today! So hard to convince myself to work instead of play though..... gah!!
  17. Here's an official welcome to the boards then!
  18. Paid $700 for it, was asking $900 but it wasn't starting when I showed up, so it was priced accordingly. Drained the gas from the carbs, put fresh gas and spark plugs, started right up.
