  1. What's large and what's small? It's about half a 5mm lip at the top which shows carbon buildup (where the rings don't slide I assume?)
  2. Thanks for the input gentlemen! Checked end gaps on the rings and they're all well within spec - much closer than my old engine was - the ring gap was right at the limit on that engine, this one is well within the limit. I was leaning towards using this set, just wanted some reassurance that it wasn't a horrible idea.
  3. Whether tis nobler to get new rings and a new hone, or whether tis good enough to use piston rings and cylinders that were just done in September? Should I get a hone job, and new rings, or should I just install these as is? They're out of my parts engine, the guy who sold it to me said they were just done in September...and I trust his word, so I'm thinking I save myself $200 in new rings and just use these! What do you think? Discuss. 4. Thanks! Yeah it kinda makes up for the $400+ I'm about to drop in gaskets and other parts to put everything back together! lol
  5. Damn I broke a piece of the fin off the cylinder housing when I was tapping a block onto it to get it to come loose.... just a little piece, shouldn't affect cooling...but it looks poopy now. Damnit.
  6. One motor is an 86, one is an 88, not sure which is which.... I'll check out the ring gap today on this motor that I'm stripping down, and see how the cylinders look! Good idea, might as well use the best of what I've got, and do this right and once!

    Frame paint ??

Powder coat, if you can afford it. Would be about $200 here for a frame to get done. That shit would last forever and be pretty much bullet proof. Another great product is POR15 if you haven't heard of it already.... "Paint Over Rust" is what it stands for. Holds up good but sunlight will make it fade.
  8. LOL yeah I got the mounty part... it was the rest I was having trouble translating. You guys are hilarious! lol
  9. Heck yeah man! I'm hoping to start putting everything together next weekend, should have all my gaskets and misc parts from the Yamaha dealer by then, and with these parts I'll be all ready to go! Well...tires too, but those will be next paycheque, or the one after that..... funds shrink fast when you start buying parts! lol Deals help though.
  10. Well here's the head off one of the parts engines - this one is in better shape than the other engine, the other has 3 stripped exhaust bolt holes!! Wtf! Anyway..the valves on this have MUCH less carbon buildup than my engine did, so I'm going to use this head! I'm thinking I should still knock the valves out and relap them to be safe...what do you guys think? 11. Shit's gonna get real! Free balls. lol I meant to say "so far"....
  12. Oh yeah I can salvage one good motor out of the two, and have some spare parts in the end!
  13. Can I get a UK to Canadian translation for that please?? lmfao!!
  14. I don't think I've ever seen a seat cowl for sale, other than the airtech aftermarket one. I got two things done at once and met someone up there to sell some of my old Felix Potvin goalie pads for $200 - pretty much covered the cost of parts. Love how things work out sometimes!
  15. Kick dirt at their shoes so they become less shiny?
  16. Got such a sweet deal on a bunch of parts for the FZ today! Kid was super nice, he got hit off his and didnt' want to risk putting it back on the road with a bent frame, so he parted it out, along with his other parts bike...so I got: 2 x Complete engines (one with full wiring harness including ignition key lock) - they both have their issues, but between the two there are tonnes of parts 4 into 2 into 1 exhaust with an aftermarket muffler of some type ( pipes from an XJ maybe? FZ has a 4 into 1 ) Ignition controller Almost brand new chain Gauge cluster Entire body fairing set (one damaged) Front brake system Two handlebar signal switch clusters Almost new interstate battery Brand new clutch pack Box of misc bolts and shit which will always come in handy! and the ever sought after but hard to find rear seat cowl! All for less than $300! A steal if you ask me....I did have to drive 2 hours through fog to get there but it was worth it for sure. 17. Well the second picture is from kneeling down under the bike, not many people are going to look that way up there... and like I said I'm going to have some side pieces to fill in so it's not finished yet. Bracket is bolted on there good, and I plan to get it welded, it's not going to budge, it will be once piece! If there are any pieces left sticking up or out I'll be sure to grind em off though! Thanks for looking out for me! lol
  18. Guess I did pretty good only going down once! lol!
  19. Thanks buddy! lol I'm probably going to go with 140-80-18 or 140-70-18 - book says 120-80-18 and I don't want to push it too wide off the rim... Do you think the hard rubber could have contributed to me going down at the beginning of december as well??
  20. Has lots of tread left, but it's old, and the rubber is hard.... I suspect I need a new front & back tire, handlebars wobble a bit when I take my hands off them...but everything else seems nice and straight. How's the tail end look anyway, besides the tire?? lol
  21. No. It's an underbody chassis part, not a finished body piece.... it blends in perfectly with the chassis paint. Everything is mounted up now! Untitled by feliks.ca, on Flickr Untitled by feliks.ca, on Flickr
  22. Turned out pretty decent! Untitled by feliks.ca, on Flickr Untitled by feliks.ca, on Flickr Untitled by feliks.ca, on Flickr Untitled by feliks.ca, on Flickr
  23. Ok bracket prepped and ready for paint! Going with VHT self priming roll bar and chassis paint, same stuff I used on the rear chassis which it's going to connect to. Untitled by feliks.ca, on Flickr Untitled by feliks.ca, on Flickr
  24. Already drilling the holes.... just have to balance working on the bike and getting my real work done!
