  1. in some european countries the nice small rear light was standard... I'm wondering what the swiss MOT testers will say.. ;-)
  2. last cosmetics done on the dt 400(e.g. decals)... consider to reactive the oilpump. this weekend I'll start to work on the yellow dt 250. look will stay "used" - only technique/electrics/mechanics will be renewed/restored.. cheers tom
  3. thx for the comments and the spellcheck ;-) @blackhat250: my dt125 IS a monoshock mx. it's not visible on the photo.. I'll take another photo next time to show the whole "family" )) cheers tom
  4. so... just created a photobucket account which is tested here ;-) finished recently: a dt 125 mx currently working on the dt 400 mx just started: 2 dt 250 type 512 .. (hope the photo-upload worked..) cheers tom
  5. how can I remove the cables without opening that box??? the cable connector is inside!? and: since the oilpump is disconnected anyway: it might be the best solution to go with a single cable anyway.. do you agree? where do I find a descriptio how to upload photos? it does not appear intuitive or selfexplantory to me ;-) tom
  6. idea is to oil/grease the whole throttlecable system to make it moove smooth enough .....
  7. yes. cylindrical... will i have to take the cable off the carb and the pump before the cylinder can be opened? tom
  8. my dt 400mx is extremely load, althought everything looks ok and original... i'm wondering what the mot-testers will say.. ;-) is the dt400 known to be that load? tom
  9. hi experts! does anyone know how the "black box" in which the throttle cable under the petrol tank is divided into the two cables for the carb and the oilpump? it cannot be very complicated, but it refuses to open.. grrrr. thx in advance tom p.s. i'm currently restoring a 1977 dt 400mx (almost finished) and a 1976 dt 250 type 512 ((just started)
  10. Sorry, the moderator cut off the second half of my post, because I was asking for frame/documents for a 76 dt 400, but did not use the Wanted section... ;-). The Problem has been solved in the meantime. The bike is from Austria... Once I have the bike in my Garage I'll take pictures. (When everything works as planned, I'll get the 77 mx first, gehen the 76 twinshock..) Cheers Tom
  11. Hi all, I recently purchased 2 1976 dt 400. Edit by DDT: Wanted items in the wanted section please.
  12. Just to close this discussion: ROOT CAUSE WAS THE BOWL GASKET, Repaired it and now it fires on the first kick!! Thx for your help! Tom
  13. hi, while working on some electrical issues (flasher is not working any more; battery is not charged correctly) I found the rectifier that is mounted underneath the fueltank more or less molten down .... (where a double white lead meets a red one...) the rectifier itself is a black littel box of about 2cm) do you know from where I can get that part? is it yamahaspecific or can I use a generic one . .. hope that this is the root cause of my probs... cheers tom
  14. hi cynic, maybe my english is not good enough, but I don't understand what that means: "Pick a bodypart for an oe system in good nick"?? can you help me out? tom
  15. ok. cool.. since I want to keep the original pipe unmodified; i'm looking for a second exhaust. any idea where to get a original part from? either used or new? AND: would the exhaust from the 175mx fit to the 125cc barrel? tom
  16. this Sounds promising!! Would the ( unrestricted) exhaust of a dt 175 fit? Any idea where to get an exhaust? .. I'like to keep the original one... Are there any Tuning Exhausts for that Model available on the market? Cheers T.
  17. Stamp on the carburator is MIC 2A8 00 The numbers on the Exhaustor pipe is 2A8 14610 Does that tell anything to you? Cheers Tom
  18. 75kg... Not that fat ;-) And it's the topspeed of the dt that is less than the 10hp Kawa ke 125. Adjusted the ignition Timing yesterday. Plus I took away the airfilter. This added another 5 km/h in topspeed Still far away from where i'd like to be ;-) More Tipps? The realistic tip that bring's the 100km/h+ will get a Free Pint!!! T.
  19. is 90km/h resp 55mph ok for the dt125mx? shouldn't it be a bit more???? tom
  20. oh. fast response thx!!! is the barrelhead of the 175 identical with the 125? the 125-175 conversion seem to be the most obvious change cheers tom
  21. hi all, I have to admit, that I was a little bit disappointed about the topspeed of my 78 dt125mx. --> not more than 90km/h (55mph) .. maybe the speedometer in inaccurate... my kawasaki ke 125 (1978) appears more powerful and is faster as well.. ... how fast should it go? ... any obviouse modifications to improve power? ... does the 175 barrel/piston/barrelhead fit? if yes: what else need to be changed in order to have the full dt175 power? thx in advance tom
  22. ... I tried to start with choke all the time.. which did not work as descibed in my first post. recently I tried to start without choke: with throttle closed it starts (when I open the throttle, or pull the choke it dies) when the motor runs for a few minutes (and gets warm) everything is fine... does this info help for a refined diagnosis? tom
  23. Ok. Hope i have some time next weekend... Just made a quick test in the garage: without choke it started! (Cold) -with Choke it died as described befördert.. Strange.. Cheers Tom
