Can anyone point me in the right direction
Hi guys, as you know I have got a knocking on my engine. Well stupidly today I thought I would take it for a little run as hadnt started it for a coupkd of weeks...well after a mile the knocking turned to loud tapping then lost power from middle revs...then cut out completely. Sounded like it was slightly miss firing. I recently checked the plugs..leads..valve clearances..did oil change...welded holes in exhaust. Am suspecting piston rings but had good compression. ..till today anyway. One other fault that may or may not be related is the starter motor has been electronically grinding....but I took that to be from lack of use and charge...hence the ride today? Anyone got any ideas...before I strip the engine completely?

new guys first question
Well mateys...just did an oil change (beyond well needed) but whilst changing the oil filter I noticed silver metal filings in it...now considering that the knocking is STILL there at high revs I think a piston ring is starting to break down (as still have compression I dont think they have completely gone)...so time to delve deeper...just need time to do it

new guys first question
Rear tyre fixed...rear brake shoes turned out not needing replacement. ..just a service at ware gauge stuck...carb manifold arrived and needs some modifications as is for an xv125 not xbs...damn and blast...ht lead repaired properly...so well on the way guys. Think my mrs is already bored of the 'greasy monkey look'

new guys first question
Hey guys, well luck as has it, woke this morning to find my rear tyre has a puncture...as I have to change the rear brake pads in the next couple of weeks I can do this at the same time...just sods law that I have no wonga till next friday otherwise I would be hard on the issues this bike has in a shot. So list as I see it at the mo; Oil Change (inc filter etc) Front Tyre Rear Brake pads changed Rear inner tube Depending whether the oil change has made a positive difference to my "Knocking issue" depends if I have to dele deep into the engine MOT New HT leads (as cant hurt) I will keep ya posted Thanks everyone for all your help

new guys first question
Well guys...little update...I have checked valve clearances and they seem ok...but after a looking around I have found a few things that, if not the reason, cant have been helping.1. Oil needs desperately changing as was a horrible light brown/beige colour...and splitting. 2. HT lead was de graded at the plug end...I have split and reattached...will update after oil change. :-)

converting a xvs 125 to 250
Good morning bros and babes...after reading up about my bike I have found out references to the fact that this bike was originally built for a 250 engine. Just wondering if anyone on here has had any experience changing an XVS 125 ro a 250...and if so what was required? A friends says just different heads and pistons but im sure theres more to it (carbs...exhaust etc)

new guys first question
Thanks blackhat...I have welded the exhaust (numerous holes) took the carb joint off and taped (have the new part being delivered soon) just to see if that made a difference. ..bike is smoother but still rattles from the top of the front end at the higher end if revs. When that carb joint gets delivered im gonna inspect the valves/clearances...hopefully wont need a rebore but wilk deal with it if so...thanks guys
