  1. ha ha, thought somebody had found a photo of my dog, or my ex wife, both look vaguely familiar...
  2. cheers fella, I took my Z for her Mot and spoke to one of the mechanics at the garage, see what he thought it was, just on the off chance, he bet me a fiver it was the pick up, said he had exactly the same problem with a gpz900 some years ago, the only electrical system in the engine tied up with ignition was the pick up, get warm as the engine gets warm, breaks down and shuts off until engine is cold, I owe a fiver, but I'm well happy, in the meantime, I've had and unplugged every connector, cleaned and degreaser every terminal, took the cdi apart and re soldered every joint, took off and washed the carbs, had new plugs, all looking for the fault, so many jobs jobbed, been a grand voyage of discovery, and something I wouldn't have done if it wasn't for the fault.
  3. It was the stator pick up....runs like a dream now, never crossed my mind.
  4. yep sounds good to me, I'm getting right frustrated now.
  5. Just noticed, while is in it's no spark state, when ignition is first turned on, there is no oil light, just neutral. then when the engine is being turned over via starter motor, the oil light comes on. I'm sure that when I first turned it over earlier on in the evening, to show a buddy what was happening, the oil light was on when I turned the ignition to on. My zed from cold does the same thing, so does my car. Would this make the cdi think there was a fault with the oil switch? Or think there was no oil at all? Clutching straws here.
  6. Me again.... right I still have no joy to report, my cdi is the last of the pre diversion cdi's, and rare as hens teeth, will a cdi from an older xj600 work? the fz600 doesn't as the wiring is slightly different to the plug, I'm looking at getting a cdi from an xj600 from a 51j model, my model is a 3km, seriously, any help would be hugely appreciated, I love riding my xj, and miss her terribly...
  7. ha ha.... Eh?

  9. Sorry fella, I got no idea there.
  10. disconnected the regulator, does the same so cdi is looking like its at fault....bugger.
  11. One bike sorned, even though its taxed and mot'd, the other one needs fixing, so loads of sun, no bike fun for me either... Harrumph!
  12. no worrys fella. All good.
  13. airlock maybe? What I do and everyone is different, I run the engine whilst filling up with coolant, that way the pump pushes the coolant round, fill up when the engine is off and the pump doesn't move, but thats just me. All ways done it, never had any water issues, this includes cars and vans.
  14. I have an 82 z550 and a non running xj600 at the mo, well it runs for 5 mins.... Anyhow, I'd get a third if I had the cash, best time to buy is between November and February, get to march and the bikes almost double in price.
