  1. Anybody know the setting for the air mixture screw?..can`t find it in the manual.
  2. Good news..vinegar saved the day. One and half days soak and throttle valve popped out. But choke still stuck in there..in fact on trying to get it out, the plunger cap separated off leaving just the plunger shaft sticking out, so its still in the vinegar. What about some boiling water..wondering what is going to be good enough to clean out all those little orifices in there?
  3. Got a tip to try this stuff. Soak for couple of days.
  4. This slide stuck badly after 20yrs doing nothing. Any suggestions getting it out. Already soaked it in WD40 but fuel has formed a sticky sludge around it. What about chopping off the cable and soaking it in boiling water?
  5. WIll definitely go original parts in that area. Found someone to do the engine for me whose done them before. He reckons if crank bearings and journals etc.ok, will cost around 420pounds..otherwise around 550pounds. If its this kinda money I will be happy.
  6. Aftermarket cheap gasket on one exhaust port. I hear the genuine gasket very expensive. Think this filter past it. Just crumbles to powder when touched.
  7. Well done Wild Foamy. Chain tensioner brackets upside down.
  8. Yea..all the bits seem to be there. Considerably more wiring than the DT..treading very carefully through it all.
  9. Can anybody identify what I`ve installed wrong way around?
  10. Progress so far. Going to be difficult getting carbs out. Stripped away back end to give some room.
  11. Is this bike`s chain endless? I can`t find a master link..surely it can split, otherwise how do I get it out of the swingarm?
  12. Carbs on this bike look same as my DT175..except there`s 2 of them. But are the float settings same as the DT? Carbs will be coming off soon for a clean and I need to check it.
  13. sorry, site owners has expressly banned any q's asking for free manuals. all to do with search bots and advertising income (which keeps the site going)
  14. Hooked up a fresh battery today and got some life. All lights, indicators and horn working fine..I`m happy this bike runs 12 volt.
  15. Been after one of these since I was a teenager...sooo happy to own one now. Some background...apparently this bike stood in Germany for 20 years before being brought over to SA. The owner here was a Brit who owned it for 2 weeks with the idea of restoring it until his existing bike blew up and he needed some cash in a hurry. Says he had 5 buyers licking his backside but I was the only one who was happy to pay his price and so it arrived at my house after a 700km trip down our East coast on Monday. So some pics: Very tatty..but very original. (nice to get original exhausts) Tank will need to be done..looks bad inside too. Not sure if radiator will still be ok. Has no front brakes..no surprise Carbs must be badly gunged up..throttle won`t budge either Still plenty 2stroke in there..suppose it can`t be much good after all this time Look forward to getting new battery in there and see how are electrics Original Yamaha mirrors still on Clocks still look good..although tripmeter reset knob is missing Some damage on headlight Think I can maybe save painting the plastics with some spit and polish Will keep you all posted.
  16. Well there it is..some issues still: - Still has quite a nasty miss in midrange revs (must still change accelerator pump diaphragm) - Hard cold starting (had to use quickstart again this morning) - Orange peel on the tank paint job - Exhaust looks terrible (actually could use a new header pipe) - Seat needs attention (a blue seat..whose idea was that??) Otherwise very happy with it..these issues can wait as I need a road bike, so the RD project will take priority.
  17. Well she`s not budging, that`s after previous owner poured penetrating fluid down the plug holes. she must be seized..that`s why it stood so long. So top end overall required..just hoping no problems further down. Throttle jammed..presume the slides are not too happy in the carbs..so will give them a good clean. Need to learn about cooling systems here as well as disc brakes. Coolant reservoir looks empty. Plenty 2stroke in the tank..suppose must replace all fluids.
  18. Well it arrived today. No front brakes (can imagine what that brake fluid must be like..if any in there at all). Not sure whether I shud see if it turns over. Some German papers and plenty of keys (don`t know why so many - 6 in all). Pretty rusty tank..in and out. Looking pretty tired but original. Think must get a good battery in there and see if there`s any life in the electrics. Will post some more pics soon.
  19. Can I add more coats even now that its dry?..would think 1200 grit wet should work.
  20. Not a nice day..got orange peel all over the tank with the clearcoat..will have to live with it for now. Tank back on and went for a start with some quickstart. Starts ok..adjusted clutch cable ok..but throttle driving me nuts..revving high all the time. Been fiddling with adjustment but revs just staying high...even after loosening cables by the carb. Must be the cable as when I force throttle back the revs drop. Maybe its a cable routing issue. Maybe shud take cables completely off carb and see if its better.
  21. Rear mudguard needing lot of fibreglass and bodyfilla to get it looking ok again. Had a big hole in it. As well as the tail light bracket. Tank and sidecovers look nice. This is a base coat so still going over with clearcoat tomorrow. My first time so I`m little nervous now that the decals are on..don`t want to cock this up..thin coats at a time I think.
