  1. the law is the same for all companies, I have doubts the law is different in US for speedometers. think about this: a new tyre give you more speed/rotation than a warm tyre. also the tyre pressure can modify your speed. there is also the human factor, you can try to ride with legal speed but you are not perfect so you may go faster with 1m/h. all those things can make you broke the speed law theoretically so, to be sure you are not in danger to do this, they set the speedo to show around 10% more speed than actually you have. that way you are not in danger to broke the law if you don`t want to do it.
  2. sorry, my english is crap, so I try again: your friend`s speedometer is broken. his speedometer should show more speed than the GPS, because the GPS show the real speed and a speedometer MUST show more speed than the real speed with 6-10%. is not your speedometer fault, they are come with this setup from factory.
  3. your speedo is ok, your friend speedo is broken. the speedo should show around 6-10% more speed that actually you have, depending of the tyres worn and other factors. I had an increase of fuel consumption when I cut the oxigen sensor on my bike. did you cut the oxigen sensor when you change your muffler?
  4. you can also try THIS grouch. cheap and useful in some situations
  5. do you also clean carpets?
  6. I will chose first one, was dropped but the damage is small, is a 2013 and also just 600 miles. I buy mine with 500 miles, 2012 model, I change just tires, oils, oil filters and I put petrol inside. the year is very important, also the low mileage mean you have peace of mind about services and you know the old owner don`t have time to fuck the engine. on lever and some scratches on the pipes mean nothing. the frame can`t be damaged, the bike must look worst to have a frame damaged. some will say the year is not so important but, I have almost the same milleage on both 1992 FJ1200 and 2012 xvs950. no problems at all with the xvs, and the FJ is always with problems. every owner has change something on the bike, the wires especially and contacts, etc, they add something, remove another things, is not how a FJ must be. you buy it almost new, you know you have a good bike, unmodified in bad.
  7. if you check your other post with thbe other user, you can see I give you the answser, now i`m 90% sure is the belt. to find out if is this, put a bit of grease on the left side of the belt. if the noise is gone, ytou can be 100% sure. what to do: adjust your rear wheel alignment then properly tighten the wheel nuts.
  8. I have it on steam :)) 13 may, the new doom come on the market. nothing changed the same game as doom1. waste of money
  9. most of the car drivers know the leg raised mean thank you, kev. at base, nod is for salute in the city other bikers, left hand when you meet another biker ( Barry Sheene fault for this), right leg when you overtake another biker (left hand in UK) those days, the legs for thanks when filtering or for salute when overtake, the left hand for thanks when filtering, overtaking or salute the bikes you meet. in austria if i`m not wrong, they also use to salute giving a short left signal and in romania they "show" you something on the ground with 2 fingers from left hand (this practically is a tribute for the dead bikers friends) so, don`t look on the road, just give them back the salute :))
  10. sorry, what for you, Britons, "weather will be good" mean? because that day I was in Castleton and I was freezing all day lol. probabbly in your language that mean "no rain, no snow" :)))

    Ready for 2016.

look awesome, how much did you pay for the bike? excluding your wife shopping trip? :)))
  12. sorry, I don`t know exactly what is a squeal but if is what I think, may be another issue, this noise is coming also in no gear? or just when the bike is moving? if the noise is just when the bike is moving, is the transmission belt, your rear wheel is not correctly aligned +/or the wheel ax not tight enough. so, if is this, try to tight a bit more the left side adjuster, and be sure the centrer ax is properly tight when you finish the job. the noise can come from the wheel or from the engine side. if is not this, I have no idea what can be, this is the only problem I had with my xvs. also the noise is not coming all the time, is coming especially after the belt get wet.. riding in rain or humidity or after washing. I have to do this all the time after I change the tyre I hope you understand my... english lol good luck
  13. be aware, the US version don`t have the chip, I think just australian and european ones have chip keys, so, if you buy a key from another source than a yamaha dealer, be sure you buy what you need.
  14. you can use the red key but better keep it safe, if you lose it, you will regret. and I don`t think you need a yamaha dealer to programme a new key, but I guess you will need to buy a key from them to be sure you get the correct key, with the chip. search on google for how to programme a new key or, pay something around 30-50 pounds on dealer to do it
  15. I use this one for my xvs950. very stable, good stuff, I think you can get a better price if you buy directly from BS motopart
  16. about backrest for rider, is a must if you plan long journeys. I recommend you to change the standard seat with a mustang with backrest. on standard seat, after 200 miles, i`m broken. with the mustang seat, I come back from romania in 36 h, stop just for sleeping in germany and for fueling, eatinng, hidratation, no problem at all. about aircooled, no worry, today air cooled engines are good. I ride a lot in slow moving traffic in romania, at 40C with no problem.something like 4000 miles in 3 weeks maybe 4. you will find your pipes annoying in long rides so I recommend you to keep the standard ones. well, this is just my opinion . how much did you pay for it?

    MOT and CBT

he don`t need to feel the same as on the bike he will do the test, he need to learn the road on a bike. I do my cbt on van van, I put on my baby cruiser AJS regal raptor 5500 miles, then I do the test on bandit6. 2 hours was enough for me the conversion from baby cruiser on bandit 6. was easier on the bandit. he is not going to race for the test so, no need to much practice on the bike he will use for test. all 600cc bikes they use for tests are very friendly.

not very cheap (around 1000) but a fun bike, I do my cbt on it, suzuki van van. if you want cheaper, yamaha sr125. you will not believe but this one, for around 450 pounds can do over 80m/h.

    Price to fix bike

150? LOL, I pay for my xvs950a max 118 pounds some services ago... with all items included: oil, oil filter, plugs, rear break pads+ fitting rear tyre. last service I pay just 60 because I come with the oil, brake pads, sprks, filter... and that price include the fiting of rear tyre. so, ignore him. no matters what offer he will come with next time and next 20 times 600 pounds for a clock? lol. is golden plated?
  20. I use motul 5000 semi 10w40. I chose this for last services because is coming with k&n filter and for 30 pounds I think is ok. anyway, just don`t use full synthetic oil. yamalube cost a lot of money and is the same oil.
  21. I don`t think is about the weather, I ride it all year... and I have no mercy for my tyres.
  22. I have 404d on front on mine, I use just dunlop, those was standard.(40k on the bike now) I do something like 10k on the rear (k555) and 12k on front (d404). can`t tell you about the handling because I use just this kind of tyres.I just buy a pair from germany, over 100 pounds cheaper than in UK, free shiping.
  23. I had adjustable lever on my FJ when I buy it, I change it with standard one and I don`t feel any difference.well this is logic because can`t change the force you need to use to press the lever, and the same is on the cable ones. you will feel the difference probably if you have short fingers, but not my case. also the fj have hydraulic clutch and the xvs have cable. is a lot easier on xvs than on fj so, I don`t think if you move to hydraulic you will change something. the fj is a pain for me in heavy trafic because of the clutch, even now after I change the clutch spring with another one lighter (I don`t get any slippage). those adjustable levers are adjustable just on leght, give you as long or a short course, not easier or harder. well, that was doing what I had on FJ, I don`t feel any difference between lev 1 and 6. the good thing is, after 1000 miles in heavy traffic on my FJ, when I take the xvs, I feel like clutch lever don`t have any cable attached on it :)) the last pic you post, yes, that one will help, but don`t ask me how much, I had just hand levers adjustable
