hi folks, can anyone tell me if it is legal to display a number plate on the side (facing the rear of course) in the UK? been having a look through the UK GOV and DVLA sites and although it doesnt specify you can, it doesnt specify you cant either as far as i can see. just double checking as over here in QLD most cruiser/harley riders have theirs on the side despite it being technically illegal so when i had my bobber conversion done i had my plate on the rear which unfortunately ruins the aesthetics a little. Grave(ly perplexed)

hi mate, thanks for the pointers. i did spend a rather fruitless couple of weeks chasing a CoC document which turned out to be the one document that i dont need as the conformity approval number is actually stamped on the VIN plate in my case. also in QLD theres a weird situation where the transport dept here dont have any information on a vehicle other than what you tell them and given that they dont have a logbook system either it has been a challenge to say the very least. i can now report however that thanks to a few key people i am now in the position of having just about everything i need so all going well myself and my bike should be on home soil within weeks. on the plus side (if all goes well) i am now well versed in the whole process of moving a vehicle from QLD to the UK so anyone looking for assistance in the future need only to give me a shout so long as they already have an excess of patience, a big box to keep the mountain of paperwork required in, more patience, a good shipping agent and most importantly of all a rather large helping of patience. if i remember rightly it took me about 4 weeks of on-going paperwork for the visa required to move from UK to Australia. its now taken me 5 weeks of on-going paperwork to get my own bike from Australia to the UK. hence the amount of patience needed. Grave(ly lacking in patience)

hi folks, not sure if this is the right room for this question but desperate times call for desperate measures. the time for shipping my XVS1100 from Australia to UK is fast approaching and have just been hit with another documentation request. DVLA say they would like a document to confirm the year of the bike as the VIN plate may not be enough on the off-chance it has been tampered with (it was a private buy so no dealer receipt) and if i cannot produce this "back-up evidence" then i may have to register it as a Q plate. i do have copies of the QLD transport dept paperwork which has the year on it (2006) but am now being told that they dont count as it was me who had to give them that info in the first place. any/all offers of assistance, sources of knowledge or silent prayers would be greatly appreciated. year of manufacture evidence? according to the DVLA it isn't!

only bolted on at the heads and connected with a small bracket around the back just after they run together. because of the size of them there was no need to hold them to the bike at the tail-end. $200 (less than 140 of your sterling quid) and you could probably have them shipped for a further 50. mind you, we did chop the exhaust joints off the stock pipes which is a foolproof way of making sure a set of custom pipes will fit back onto the heads.

i know what you mean there. the longer i've had it the less impressed with it i am. main reason i've kept it though is that i havent seen another one on the road over here. despite the size of it, it does give a very good beam. far brighter & further than the stock headlight. normal light is one side, main beam the other or if you have normal beam on and press the main-beam trigger, both come on at the same time and will illuminate everything in front of you for a fair distance.

  18. while planning shortshot pipes for my XVS1100 i read up on the vstar knowledge base about re-jetting. this was the one time i regretted pre-planning. have since learned that to get it right (if you do need to re-jet) you should put the pipes on first. this is all 1100 stuff so not sure if it'll help, but for what its worth: VStar 1100 Knowledge Base (Carb Jetting) https://sites.google.com/site/vstar1100kb/home/tuning/carb-jetting

  22. g'day mate (will really need to stop saying that when i get home) had already ordered the conversion dial from lockwood as a back-up plan and it looks like that may be the road i'm going down. only thing i dont know with this is if the original dial can be removed, since its a back-lit dial if i have to put the new one over the top of the old one it'd be a hell of a job trying to read it at night. on a different subject... no, you can't have my pipes :-) custom made for less than 200 quid (sorry, dont have a pound sign on this keyboard) from the good people at Fat Pipes: www.fatpipes.com.au spent a month doing various designs but couldnt get what i was after so in the end i just gave your man a pic of vance & hines shortshots. he did ask if i wanted them baffled which we did have a giggle about!
  23. Hi folks, Been down in Australia for 6yrs but on my home to Scotland in a few weeks and bringing my XVS1100 Custom with me (have spent a few years modifying & tinkering with it but nothing too special, hence the reason for bringing it with me) However, as the title suggests, I'm badly in need of some tech help if theres anyone out there who can offer assistance. A friend in Glasgow asked the dealer there about a new clock dial (since I'll have to change from KM's to MPH) and the dealer said he'd need to know if it was an American or a European model because the wiring is different. This has opened up a bit of a debate down here since I've asked 3 seperate dealers around Brisbane this question and they all said they thought it was an Australian model. Regardless, wether there are 2 or 3 seperate models I'm struggling to find out if the Yamaha parts available in the UK will fit my bike or if I'll need to order everything from America or Australia (which should I ever find myself in a hurry for a Starter Motor or simmilar it could involve a very frustrating wait) I do have an old Haynes manual here that explains the codes but it only goes up to 2005 and it does only mention 2 models (European & American) The VIN does say it was manufactured in Japan for distribution to Australia (JYA) Anyone who can assist in this issue would be greatly appreciated.
