Throttle cable
Is your fuel cutoff in the right spot? Lol.

Petcock rust.
So finally got around to well, getting at it. Pulled the tank, took the petcock off the tank and found a bit o rust there. Doesn't seem like the best thing to ignore. Any tips on what I should do about it? I'm clueless on this one and am ready to spray what I can with WD40 and cleaning what I can. Planning on pulling the carb and taking it apart for a good cleaning, lubing up the throttle cable, changing fuel filter that was on there. I put a new seat cover on tonight and look forward to getting dirty tomorrow. https://picasaweb.google.com/104225886634124921893/YamahaBeforePictute?authkey=Gv1sRgCOfmidevkIr0zwE#5869936060888556818

Doesn't want to start after it's been running
Pretty sure its not, just the petcock off the tank with a tube to the carb. Nothing fancy.

Cleaned up a bit. Rode it down the road abit. Couple things to work out. Seems like the big leak issue is, the petcock where it connects to the tank, seems to be a o-ring there by what I read in the manuals, but nothing on the parts catalogue. If I turn the petcock tightly it will stay, but...need to fix that so will be pulling tank. Thing is if I'm doing that I might as well go all out. Bikes 34 years old and I have no history on any maintenance on it. Should I go with the "if it isn't broke don't fix it". I noticed today that when I clutch it revs really high into the red, not sure what that is about.

Not sure about the supplementary part of it but yes. I think if sometime was spent though, you may be able to find parts catalogue.

Could I turn the fuel cutoff to off before I stop it? Would that assist or hinder? Just thinking if I shut it off and it thinks it rich. I could starve it alittle then before I shut it off.

dtr starting issues? electrics?
Is there some kind of charging unit like an alternator? Is that what the magneto does? Could you say like on a car disconnect the battery to test said altenator/magneto like thingy?

Doesn't want to start after it's been running
So I got my Dt175 Running and went out on the streets for the first time ever. Taking it slow here. One thing I found, I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong, when I have been riding around and stop the bike for a short time, ie getting gas, it's then hard to start. Any idea of what I'm doing wrong or is this something normal? I stalled out a couple times practicing stop and goes on a hill and it would start right back up, but If I stopped the bike for couple minutes it's a hard start.

I have seen on Ebay assembly instructions for sale. That might be a good start.

From what I can find it's Dt175f. Now to track down a book for it and some parts. Road it a couple blocks so I know it runs but now I have it home it will not start. Battery is really corroded so gonna pull that, clean it up and see if it'll hold charge first off.

Hello brand new member here. I have a total of 8 hours on a bike in a parking lot and just bought my first bike, 1979 Yamaha DT175, No idea about the Mx or not. It's looks good to my eye but right now it's the prettiest thing so I'm biased. I'll be scanning the forums for knowledge and hope to pick a brain or two. Never have worked on a bike but have on cars so all pretty new. Thanks for having this club I could join!
