  1. Yes - sorry using iPhone and hadn't scrolled all the way down so hadn't seen the workshop section. I'll repost straight away; please accept my humble apologies.
  2. That's nothing in my first week of riding I spent half hour trying to work out why each time I put her in gear she stalled. It was then I remembered my instructor saying how he had looked a complete dickhead doing the same cos he had forgotten to raise the side stand!! Not done it again though!
  3. Ok so I've googled and can't find an answer to this one! I've checked carb settings (1/2 turn out from closed). Always starts first time, no choke. If engine is hot then she won't start without the choke. I'm also noticing a flat spot in 1st quarter of throttle after I ease off, when I go to accelerate again there is a loss of power until I wind the throttle round to halfway. Any ideas anyone? Andrew
  4. I may have to call on your help at some point - think you're the closest guru! Where abouts are you? I'm right near Duxford Andrew
  5. Any ideas on a quick fix on filling a 3mm hole in th exhaust? On the can just past the weld to the main pipe, just under the footrest. I've tried exhaust gum which works for a short while, but the next day moisture has built up and breaks this down as it forces out through the hole
  6. I only picked her up a month ago, just had service inc oil change. I assume that the garage used the correct oil. Think I'll be getting a Haynes manual though so won't need to rely on trusting a garage!
  7. I have noticed that she goes into gear properly when I push the clutch lever back. Also when she's on the centre stand in 1st, before I release the lever, the rear wheel will turn. Is this normal? Sorry, I've been on a twist and go for 6 years!!
  8. Cheers Tommy. I'll try that as soon as it stops raining!!
  9. Cheers but that was the first thing I checked and it is slack enough. If anything the lever has a little too much play! Although thinking about it I'm not sure if it is releasing fully each time. I'll check the return spring on top of the gear box.
  10. Help please! I'm not sure what is going to be best to start with. I know I will need a new gasket, but after that I don't know why else I may need. Basically the clutch is slipping through all the gears, even 1st and 2nd, suddenly 'kicking in' as if the gear wasn't quite engaging. I've looked on eBay and there seems to be several different options - clutch plate kit ranging through to complete assembly. Can anyone tell me what is going to be best for a relative novice mechanic (previous experience on lawn mowers only) to try first? Other than a garage that is!! Cheers, Andrew
  11. Lol!! Maybe in the garden after a few beers!!
  12. Lol! Thought the bike looked better. I'll swap it back. That onesie is so warm, I wore it under everything else when I picked the bike up a few weeks ago in the snow!!
  13. Cheers Bippo/Welshwan!
  14. Well done! Out of interest and laziness, how much was the theory? Also, do you know if after nearly 20 years of driving cars, do I still need to do a theory test?
  15. Thanks for that. Not quite Norfolk but stil no hills to talk of. There has been a couple if times where I'd forgotten about 5th! In all then running as she should.
  16. Hi all wondered what anyone else is achieving? I'm averaging about 72ish MPG. Is this about right? The bike is nearly 20 years old but I had been led to believe I should be getting more. Cheers
  17. So after 130 miles, I have just turned on to the reserve. No idea how many litres are left in the tank. I will fill up tomorrow so I can gauge mpg. All I know it's a lot more than my 2.2l car and my twist and go Piaggio which I no longer own!! Note here that if the reserve switch is not located completely the bike will stop again! School boy error, but was raining hard at the time - that's my excuse and I am sticking to it!!
  18. Thanks for all that. Think I'll master simple stuff first before trying that on a 19 yr old bike! Can't afford mechanics bills and haven't got that much free time! The little free time I have got I'd rather spend riding than rebuilding a gear box!
  19. Cheers jimmy. Married, 2 kids and being a little closer to 40 than most 125 riders means I do have a vested interest in keeping the bike going well with minimum of outlay!
  20. As a car driver for 19 years (on and off bikes) I have only ever not used the clutch when mine went in an old Volvo 480. Can it not cause damage to the box by not using the clutch going up the gears? If it doesn't, excellent stuff - one less thing to have to worry about. What about coming back down?
