im not sure if there is a switch on the clutch or kickstand, the neutral light does work but to see it i have to be in neutral, clutch in, and revving it slightly (dim light) ill check the kickstand switch here soon where would the switch on the clutch be? from wat ive looked up online a fair amount of it is pointing to the kickstand switch, but they say if the stand is up then it works fine, but my stand can be up or down and it still dies when i release clutch. thanks for the reply, ill keep looking as well

haha well im back, after a week or so of no problems and some great times riding, i ran into another snag.. i was riding the bike like normal, no abusing or beating it, just heading home from school and it would start bogging down on me everytime i gave it some throttle. so i figured heck, before me it sat for 3 years so maybe i didnt clean it good enough or adjust it right. (adjusting might still be off but only slightly). well i took the carb to a pro to have it cleaned and install a new float and pilot jet. got it home, put it on, sounded great, idled lower and smoother, RPM seemed to climb nicer. but then i put it into gear, and as soon as i release the clutch it dies. without fail, every gear, even in neutral it dies as soon as i release the clutch. im not sure what my problem is now? im stumped.. any help so i dont have to walk until i get it fixed?

also it seems that my speedo, temp gauge, and tach arent working? are some wires unhooked? any help on that as well? i cant seem to find anything but then again im not sure what to look for

hey guys, well i got the bike running real nice, first kick everytime and runs as long as i want it to. thanks blackhat for the help! now ive got what i hope to be my last proble. when i assembled the rear wheel after changing the tube i must have messed up somewhere because my wheels arent aligned, as the back wheel is an inch or 2 to the left of the front one if you look from the rear. can someone link a picture of how the setup looks? im not sure what other bikes i can use for reference but if its the same rear setup please link it! any help is greatly appreciated! thanks guys!!

yeah the petcock is clear, ill get the pilot cleaned later today if im home before dark otherwise ill get it done tomorrow. also does anyone know the factory carb settings or a link to them as i cant seem to find them and dont have a manual. i called the yamaha dealership and they said theyre not sure as they havent dealt with older bikes in a long time. wana make sure i have the air mixture screw/idle screw set to factory as i thought that could also cause a problem? and if its any help wen i started it earlier today itd rev really high, to the point it seemed about to hit the redline so i had to kill switch it. it did that 2-3 times? and then it would sputter on for a second or do and die.. really stumped, my luck itll be a really simple fix

well i tried at it again today, i got it to start a few times, but again, it didnt last long? and no im again trying to start it and it just doesnt want to start. so now wat guys?

well i got everything i needed to fix the bike, new float assembly, new kickstart oil seal, MAGNUM patch for 2 pinholes in my tank. now my problem.. i got it to run a few times but no longer that a minute at a time. well i went to go to the store for a snack, came back and tried kicking it over, nothing. even before itd start 1-2 kicks but now ive gave it more kicks than a soccer game.. haha any advice? im thinking it might be a fuel related problem?? i tried roll starting it and i could get it to grumble for a few seconds then slowly die off. need some help guys, anything is appreciated!

yeah ik wat u mean haha ive welded on other gas tanks and a few propane tanks. its gonna sit outside in the nice weather for a few days first though haha ill also be doing MIG welding on a low heat as ive learned with gas tanks also can anyone find a place online that would sell the float assemblys? ive found a few but theyre wanting 30-40, is that about average?

ok awesome, ill probably do that. oh and a guy offered me $500 for it as it is now im like 40% sell 60% keep even though its a 50cc its still a real awesome bike and im sure a motor swap down the road is simple any input guys? just mainly wondering if thats a fair offer or is he lowballing? and another thing i was wondering as well, theres a small leak on the left side of my gas tank at the bottom, would it be safe if i drained the gas and welded over the crack to patch the leak?

yeah, so when i buy a float valve what all will it exactly come with and whats a good place to buy them? i called my local dealership and they wont have any in order for a few more months. are there any reputable places online? thanks for all the help so far guy, im on a few other forums trying to figure this out and i either get flamed for asking or nobody wants to really help so i appreciate it

well i believe i found my problem.. theres supposedly a small wire that connects the float to the needle valve, im missing that wire. the previous owner had the needle valve just resting on the float and that explains the problem why it leaks out all the gas that goes in the carb, the needle valve isnt seating up top to stop the fuel from pouring in.. so now what guys?

i did, and i tok the bowl off, filled it with gas and slowly put it back on and i could see the float working. now that i ruled the float out, what would be the next corse to check?

well im having carb problems now.. seems as the bowl isnt even filing up, right when i turn the petcock on to allow the fuel to flow, i count to 2, and its coming right out of the overlow nipple.. so wats the verdict? do i gotta replace the carb entirely? do i go stock or are there other carbs i can get from other models? im not looking to break the bank on a fancy aftermarket one, just a good working one, new or used

well i mean smoke as bad as it did when it was started yesterday, today its a finer smoke cloud and has a real nice french fry smell almost haha i had a bit of premix left, it was Motul 800 at 40:1. might tinker slightly with the brand and ratio to get the best setup for the bike

well the work it needs is mostly small things, mostly maintanence. and as for papers, i called the DMV earlier and asked what it would take to get papers for it, they said all i have to do is come down there with the bike, they check the VIN, make sure i dont have any bad driving record, and if everything turns up clear then they get me papers in my name, and itll only cost $10. and this morning i also got it running without a problem now, sounds good, idles nicely, doesnt smoke anymore. and ill probably be going tomorrow to get a tube for the rear tire so i can ride it and see how it does on the streets

and busyeddie, ill get that spot checked tomorrow, if nothing else then probably the week after next im taking it to where i work (auto shop) so i can take the engine off and give the bike one good cleaning and possibly do some small maintenance

well i got it running today, for the first time in quite a while.. it smoked up a bit and didnt wana stay running, takes a few kicks each time when it dies. i put some oil in the crankcase and just a tiny bit of gas in the tank (non mixed), just to make sure it will run (even if it does for 5 seconds) just to know its worth it to put more money into. well wen it started, my heart jumped and i was so excited!! but ill leave it as it is in the garage and around monday of next week ill get the tube (only $9.37 USD) and and about 2 gallons of gas and some 2 stroke oil for the gas. if anyone could answer the questions i have that are up a few posts id appreciate it

Need some help with my DT125 LC
Well its been a while since ive been on here, but while i was off i found out some info on my bike thats very interesting. the guy i got it from in a trade swore it was a 125. i finally found the VIN (under the headlight) and looked it up. Its a 1988 Yamaha DT 50 LC... So its a 50CC.. kinda dissapointed as i was lied to. it seems pretty powerful for a 50CC and im not a bike expert so i could see how i was easily tricked into believing it.. Now i have other questions/concerns. I do still plan to keep it (but i have some people interested, ill let it go for the right price but doubtfully). Now to the questions. *is it considered a moped or scooter? my states law (KY) is very easy towards scooters but a bit more strict towards mopeds. *i dont have papers for it, if i need to register it, how would i go about that? i have a local cop friend search the VIN and it came up clean and clear (no stolen reports) *ive read that 50cc bikes has problems passing low/mid 30MPHs, is it true for this bike as well? *if so, how can i get a bit more power out of it? any tips/advice is greatly helpful *also since my car isnt running i plan to use it to commute to school and home, will it be up the that challange? ive heard 2 stroke 50cc bikes dont like being at the same RPM for a while and my commute is roughly 10ish miles so any and all help is greatly appreciated, and thanks for all the previous help guys!
