Here's a vid of my LC on the dyno recently. I was standing next to it and it is loud 8) http://www.gareth.evans9.btinternet.co.uk/...es/richdyno.WMV

FZR rear wheel, advise for a novice trackie .
Sorry, don't think it's a straight swap. As far as I can remember, the Genesis runs a thinner wheel spindle which would mean machining up spacers etc. It would probably be easier using the back end from a 600 Fazer, the arm is very similar to the Genesis one but the Fazer runs a 5x17 wheel (same as TRX/FZR600R etc). I have a 600 Fazer arm I would let go very cheap if you're interested.

EXUP dyno run
Cheers guys. I'm very pleased with it. After all the hassle I had when I first bought it - knackered exup valve, valve shims etc I am glad it's doing what it's supposed to. I've only had strokers and an FZ750 before so had nothing to really compare the bike to. Where it's only got 5 widely spaced gears and a smooth power curve it's deceptive how fast you're going even though it doesn't always feel like it

EXUP dyno run
Took my EXUP for a dyno run today. It's all standard apart from a K&N filter element. The power is measured at the crank (not sure why they do it this way but they do) so allowing about 10% for transmission losses it's doing about 125 at the wheel which is good enough for me. The tester did comment that it's running very rich and sooty - something like 7.5%co (should be nearer 1.5) which is probably down to worn emulsion tubes in the carbs but said it's still making lots of power It's an 89 model with 28k on the clock.

FZR 1000 xup valves
Yep, they are a bugger for seizing. When I bought mine it was seized, not solid but too stiff for the servo to turn. Sorting it cost about £100 in parts plus a few hours in the workshop. Luckily the actual valve was OK but I had to replace the housing plate (buggered it getting out of the pipe), pulley, cable holder (both rusted) and bushes/grease seals. I had to take the pipe off the bike to do the job as the bolts sheared off and had to be drilled out and retapped. Runs lovely now, doesn't have the kick of a stroker so it's a bit deceptive how quicky it gathers speed. Hope to have it on the dyno soon Here's a pic of some of the bits I replaced.

EXUP question
Thanks for that, not just my riding then  Apart from that, it's an awesome bike - the pull in second gear is amazing and takes it to almost 100mph 8)

EXUP question
Got my EXUP pretty much sorted now, valve clearances done, exup valve sorted and set up, carbs balanced etc. In town though, I find second gear a bit tall for some really slow corners, especially up hill? Below 25mph, second gear is about 2000rpm and the bike tends to chatter below this speed if the throttle is wound open much :? Is this normal? Apart from this she rides very nicely and goes really well. Cheers

RD's LC or powervalve
The powervalve is the better bike technically, more powerful, more reliable motor, better chassis and suspension etc. The original LC has loads more character though and is much better looking (IMO). The TZR's were better still with lighter wheels, ally frames and better suspension and brakes. The simple answer must be a YPVS engine in an early LC chassis with TZR wheels and forks. Here's mine

EXUP
Hi guys, thanks for the nice words yep, had a look at the valve. Good news and bad I suppose. It was stuck in the open position and the cables had been slackened right off. Luckily the servo still works and I managed to get the valve to move (just) but chipped the pulley as it is rusted onto the shaft :? The pulley cover bolts came out fairly easily but the valve cover itself ain't going anywhere as the bolts are rusted to buggery. Someone has had a go before and chewed them up so looks like the whole thing will have to come off sometime and they will need drilling out and retapping. It has made quite a difference below 3k and it pulls more cleanly. The bike still doesn't start too well from cold so I'm gonna give the carbs a once over and balance and if this doesn't help then I guess the shims will be next. There's also this whirring on the overrun and the clutch is sometimes grabby but I've read this is a common problem with Yam clutches, especially the 1000. All in all though, I'm pleased with the bike and it is in great nick and lovely to ride 8)

EXUP
Well, I bought it 8) it's in almost mint condition and rides great, dead straight and feels very tight chassis wise. It's done 28k miles. There are a couple of things I need to ask though. There is a pronounced whirring type sound from the engine on the overrun. Its more noticable at low speed and it does it in all gears, clutch in or out. All gears work fine and it doesn't jump out. Once on the move you can't hear it. any ideas? Maybe primary chain or starter clutch? Also, does anyone know the standard pilot screw setting? It has standard can and a K&N filter but doesn't start very well and feels fluffy below 3k. It did have a can on it before but I refitted the stock one so it may have been fiddled with. Cheers Rich

EXUP
Yeah, forgot valve clearances. Did them on the the FZ. Not a difficult job, just a bit time consuming. Mine wasn't too expensive, I juggled the shims about so only needed 5 new ones at about £3 each. If the shock's knackered, I'd first see if there was a better one that would fit. Maybe off an R6 or something? Plenty come up on ebay cheap. Cheers for that

EXUP
Hi again guys Going to look at an '89 1000 EXIP tomorrow (twin headlight, rwu forks). Apart from front discs/calipers, exup valve and a bit of clutch rattle is there anything else to look out for? I know FZ750s pretty well and the motor is basically the same so shouldn't hold any surprises. Oh yeah, it's done 28k miles. Cheers Rich

FZR1000 insurance
Hi Guys, just wondering if an FZR1000 genesis ( 87-88 ) is eligible for classic insurance? Cheers  Rich
