After looking in my book i remembered there is a jet needle adjustment. it may be set too lean

I was using the oil tank. The only reason I say It may be lack of oil is that when i pulled the oil line off the carb i didnt see any in it. I took the tank off and cleaned it out yesterday after my mishap. The jug has very little aloy on it and is fine. the piston isnt to bad. Where would i find a jet at?

Yeah i was crusing on the highway and it died going up a hill so i pushed to a parking lot and it seemed like everything was fine. i cleaned the carb and plug and messed with it a while and got it running. I started heasing back towards the house on back roads and had to stop at a stop sign and it died. when i went to kick start it i could tell something was wrong. It turned over but with alot of resistance. so i stopped and got a lift back to the house. I took the jug off and it was scored some on the side where the exhast is. Could it be possible that my oil put got clogged and caused it to runn without oil for a min?

What causes an engin to overheat and score a piston. Ive had a bit of a mishap. and is there any hope in salvaging the old one?

I have been riding it and keeping an eye on the oil. i havent noticed it burning any or it changing color.

Like i said im new to all of this. i just find it wierd that it only does it at higher speeds in higher gears

I havent noticed it using any. i just changed the oil when i re-adjusted the clutch and it hadnt been that long since id changed it the first time but the oil looked good when i changed it last

The worse smoke is when im crusing at highway speeds. Other than that i dont really notice it. it starts easy. I do have to choke it sometimes but mainly when its cold out. It runs and rides great. Could it be since its air cooled that at high speed its running cold and that causing the smoke? Its been cold lately

I didnt have it bored. going from what i know about it its probably just really broke in. would the next step be new rings? And ill post up pics soon

I also have another question. This is my first bike of any kind. I bought it as a project and it wasnt running. Ive got it road worthy now and have been learning to ride. My question is, is it normal for it to smoke at higher speeds (55 mph) in high gear?. Thats really the only time it smokes.

Yeah thats what ive seen for 175s and other bikes but it seems different on the 250s and i cant find a hole anywhere

Thanks guys. I cant see how it would airhead. ive gone that route. i found a pic of a switch on ebay and it showed a curved rod attached to the spring on the switch but i can find where it would attach if i had it. And yes NEV it is a drum system but thanks for the idea

It would be great if i could find someone who has one thats working.

Thats what i thought but i cant find it and even if there was the switch is in such a place that it wouldnt reach it. i dont think the switch has been moved. im at a loss

I am fixing up a 77 dt 250. i need help figuring out how the rear brake light switch hooks to the brake pedal. i have the switch and spring in the bracket but can figure out where it attaches to the pedal. thanks
