  1. Hi davie I like the name welcome to YOC
  2. Well I find most of what I'm looking for I find on ebay, they are getting harder to find and you may have more luck on the us ebay, seca 400 is the dohc xs400 over there and most parts should fit your I do have a spare untested wiring loom which you could have for free but I think the postage would be steep. never found my 400 to be slow or unreliable and have owned one of them from new. The only real problem is the CDI which is mounted behind the left side panel & is prone to getting wet, well it is the the uk anyway would imagine one would be really hard to find for the 250 always good to have a spare if pos as they do tend to fail after about 30 years, engine is petty bullet proof most of the wear & tear parts are available on ebay german ebay seems to have more parts which is were I get a lot of bits from over their its known as the xs400 12e good luck with your project, look forward to seeing it finished

It might be easier to heat it up and bend it back maybe then strengthen it with a weld.

  10. Hi Rick & welcome back to the fold. My Dads name was Richard as a young man he had the same profession as I do now which is painter & decorator, he was known for thinning paint down with white spirit so it would go further and he would have paint leftover for his jobs on the side, he earned the nickname "Dick Turpentine" from his workmates! I always think of this when I here the name Dick & always makes me smile when I think about it

  12. I remember almost doing that when I was a lot younger, it was pissing it down, I looked up about 2 seconds before I hit the back of a parked car, I tried to avoid it and cracked me knee on the offside quarter. That was a painful 8 mile ride home, no mobile's then and I don't think we even had a phone at home then either.
  13. you get good offers on both! you buy something better this is easy me to say, being the guy who still rides the bike he bought in 1982
  14. good things come to those who wait!

  17. I took out a policy with the post office very cheap! I received a letter about a week later and assumed it was just my docs, I stupidly didn't bother to open it as I had viewed them online it turns out to be the letter informing me that I had not sent them my proof of NCD so they had cancelled my insurance and are charging me £25 cancellation fee. whoops. I asked them if they could reinstate my policy but they said no first I must pay the cancel fee then start a new policy, I told them to they could chase for the money and I'll go elsewhere.
  18. It could be a warped disc due to over heating from break binding or if bike has been dropped ? a bike shop will be able to check the run out of the disc for you if you don't know how to check it yourself, see youtube also have you checked that the caliper bolts are tight! that is the bolts that connect the brake to the fork leg!
