Picked up a '78 XS400E couple weeks ago. It is my first bike in 35 years and my first street bike ever. Have been busy with work and all but ordered some parts and supplies (cost = 2x what I paid for bike, ebay+paypal=easygo) in preparation along with devising a game plan.Tomorrow the fun begins the weather is going to be unseasonable milt for a few days and I am hoping to clean the tank and carbs, perform tune up, install mufflers and will video results of start up and running (optimistic) and post results.

I am in the process of finalizing my decision on my 1st bike since my Penton 125 around 35 years ago. I was supposed to drive out and see and subsequently bring my new bike home this past week but hurricane Sandy changed my plans. I was hoping for some insights on the two bikes I have narrowed down to: 1979 XS750 Special with 40K mi 1981 XS650 Special II with 23K mi I wish to enjoy riding and just as important take care of and preserve a classic bike. Both are in great shape and riding condition and I like them both and are about the same price so it's a matter of just going with my gut but in case there is some words of wisdom from anyone I would appreciate the comments. The 1st chance I get this week one day I'm going to check them out in person one after the other so I have a good comparison. Thanks in advance.
