    XJ600 Project

Latest purchase arrived today. Spent a few hours trawling the internet on a search for brake lines. Finally decided on ones from HEL. Went for black covered lines with shrink wrapped ends & black stainless banjos. photos to follow when I get organised. Also purchased DID sprockets & chain Set. Awaiting delivery on that. Budget now 60% spent and I still have to get tyres, steering head bearings, possibly swing arm bearings, MOT,Tax & Insurance. Oh for some Overtime....

Thanks wild foamy. Will work out what to do with shock when I get it off and have a proper inspection. Dont know what the seals or bushes are like on it. The swing-arm does look a bit awful doesn't it ! Think I might also be looking at new bearings for it as well as shot-blasting/powder coating/finding decent one on ebay cheap to give me another bit to work on. Thank you for the offer of shot-blasting. Probably take you up on that. Its something I know nothing about & haven't priced anyone up here for doing.

If this works here are some up to date photos of the XJ ; Rusty Shock STILL MOVES ! ! Hopefully when i get it off the bike it will be OK to be refurbished. Red Spring maybe ? ? Forks are rusty, Not leaking but really need rechroming. Putting seals on other forks I have means I can do this whaen I have more money. Got given this exterior grade light to put up in my carport. It works but needs wired in somehow.( Before winter ! ! ) Bike sitting in splendour of carport. Is covered when Im not working on it. Still clearing rubbish out to give me working space.

Still forgot batteries for camera. Done Jury Duty on my 2 days off this week as well.... So lost some time on the bike. However I spent some time at work today on the computer. Went comparing prices on things & bought some spares from Wemoto. Wasn't cheapest for everything but getting them all in one place made more sense. 1 Gel Battery 1 Air Filter 1 Oil Filter 4 Spark plugs 2 Fork Oil Seals 2 Fork Oil Seal Clips 2 Fork Dust Seals 2 pairs Front Brake Pads (GG) 1 pair Rear Brake Pads (GG) on separate shopping got 1 Clymer Manual. When these all come they will be put safe in cupboard till I need them ( Soon soon sooon.......)

Thanks Wild Foamy. Its the thought that counts. All work on bike put on hold at the moment while my Better Half is in CCU at the VHK. In fact it may be on hold indefinitely due to changes at work as well. Change of shift rota = less money,. But may be able to get more O/T. When my wife is fit enough to come home that is.

Just on the brakes. These brake lines are now 22years old. On safety grounds I will be replacing them. The calipers will be getting checked out and if pistons & seals are OK then I will clean them & put them back on. Rear disc getting replaced on safety grounds as well. it is much worse in real life as compared to the photos. tyres have splits in the side walls so will be getting replaced. A job that would have been getting done regardless of how good they looked. Chain & sprockets look fine. Clean & lube. Clutch mecahnism moving so just got to check the plates. replace if required. keeping the ugly fairing cos I like it !

Got the exhaust off. All looks fine in the colector area. Except for surface rust & dirt the whole exhaust looks fine. Stripped off all the bodywork as well. Taken off battery & air filter. then OOPS ! butter fingers. I dropped the clocks. Glad my tarpualins are blue. Didnt show up the air colour... So another job added to the list. Anyone know a good clock refurbisher or can suggest a home made repair. Just the plastic cover over the speedo thats broke. ( Lucky S.O.B time again. Got given bike jacket & trousers for nothing cos they are too big for guy that had them. Fit me fine...)

Will do peterb1951. Yep. saw that wheel on Ebay. Some one selling bits for XJ in South Queensferry which is 1/2 an hour away from me. On my doorstep really. Hope to start stripping in the next few weeks. Jobs in the house that MUST be done first. According to SWMBO. ( just been onto Yambits. according to their website the clutch has 8 plates. Hope this helps.
  16. Mastiff. I did exactly the same thing as a 22year old on my RD125DX. Difference was 20 years ago stuff was easier to get ! Scrappies or motor jumbles are a possible idea. May have to enquire in other countries that sold the RD though.

You wouldnt want to, believe me. And its better than the new Peugeots that Front line A&E are using. They are fine in a straight line. But corners... In the wet.... They are gonna end up making ghosts ! ! ! ( in my humble opinion, my views do not reflect the views of any ambulance service, etc, etc, etc)

Could I point out that the Book of Revelations" (Got to find out its proper name. should know it) was actually written ONLY for 1st Century Christians & even then only for the 7 main churches/temples of the area ? We are going through this book at our church & its heavy going. lots of symbology relevant only to that time. Rant over. going to ggogle proper name. ( p.s. Revelations only means " To unveil" )

IT LIVES ! ! IT LIVES ! ! Albeit briefly. Decided to run jump leads from car to bike for electricity & circuit. Put fuel tap on prime.( ) Switched on & had green neutral light ! wahey ! ! So decided to thumb starter just too see if the engine would even turn. It did. Thumbed it a couple more times & the engine ran !! Switched off hoping I havent done much damage. Wife came walking out & said "is it meant to be leaking fluid like that ?" Sure enough petrol coming out the carbs ! ! So the carbs were gonna be taken off to be cleaned anyway. It runs though ! ! 7 year old petrol as well... Pumped up the tyres & they are holding pressure so at least pushing it around the carport will be slightly easier.

Good one drewpy ! Yes. believe its the same engine. Smaller carbs ? Not sure. Think some of the switch gear was the same as well. Nothing else though. My brother had one of these. Lent it to a good friend who was killed on it by a car overtaking on a blind bend. he had no chance. Only bit of the bike still in one piece was the rear wheel ! ! How about some pics o the FZ then drewpy ? ?

Rear disc slightly warped as well. may be safer replacing it. May try to find another rear wheel with a better disc & just change over. that way I can take my time getting rusty brake disc off & have a complete spare wheel. Found photo of me on my RD125DX circa 1991. Think it was a 1982? bike

Forks are pitted up top. Best if I take them off & get them repaired/re chromed. 1st job. clean these out. From the front. Another side shot. Still cant believe I got this for FREE. Touring fairing in big cardboard box so never took photos of it.

Free cobwebs as well. 36k on the clocks. These brakes are still working ! still clean them up & prob replace seals. Believe it or not rear brake works as well. Needs more work though.
