  1. Ok your always fun to get all the information from.NOT So the bike wont Idle at all? or just after riding for how long_________? If your having to keep the bike reved up to keep it running then your fuel supply is weak, carb is still not right.Or weak fuel pump And before you ask yes a eng can run with less fuel at higher rpms but wont idle. Pick up coils are just a pulse magnetic generator so the higher you rev the eng the harded they have to work,I have never seen a problem with 1 at idle,a eng cranking over on the starter is only turning at about 500 rpm so if the PM genator (pick up coil) can send a signal at 500 and say 2000 rpm ( you reving it up to keep it running) then it has to be working. Swap out carb from another bike and I think you will find your problem.Or switch fuel pump

Hey hi Steve post up what you need in wanted section I cant help but others might be able to.
  3. HAHAHa I think everyone has made that mistake at least 1 time Tommy. After a drunken weekend of camping some buddies decided it would be funny to switch 2 spark boots on my bike so number 3 was on 4 and 4 on 3,I sorted it out quickly, but they didnt quite make it home that weekend and had to get a truck to get home. A cigaret filter soaked in water stuffed under the boot will work untill it dries out MUHAHAHA then no spark to the plug, best part it took them days to figure out what i did they kept checking for spark on the other 2 cylinders and of coures there was. Who thinks to look for a cig butt jamed inside the boot don't mess with the mechanic
  4. Na I lied about my age were actualy about the same Jeff. 47 in april. and yep same for me trashed a couple of rds before I got my rz and the book LOL. I went straight from 10 yrs of dirt to road at 16 and though I knew how to ride, after all I could do 6 gear wheelies and jump 60 ft gaps, boy o boy did I learn alot the first few years about pavment and how to read traction from my tires. And how much traffic takes from your thoughts, how much harder it is to find a new line when you have to stay between the paint lines. Thats good news Taskie they should make it manditory read cheaper than the test book they make you buy here and it fn usless in comparssion. I take it you have read both?
  5. Scary thoughts just ran through my head, how the hell did you pass your driver test if you cant tell the difference between a worn tire and a good one. Or the difference between worn brake parts and tire grip? Do you even use the front brake? I am not trying to insult you but you need some more rider training to learn how to brake if it truley was just a worn tire.Or this wont be your last spill due to poor braking skills.
  6. Got to agree with NSD sounds like the clutch saftey is faulty ( the small switch under the lever),try disconecting it if its a normaly open switch,if normaly closed then jump the wires together. If your not sure wether its normaly open or closed then un plug it if the bike starts then it normaly open, if it wont start then jump the wires together.
  7. No way that cam wasn't on some sot of steady/dampner.If I recall correctly he built that bike and it was the only one so if it got wrecked game over and he wanted to be able to pass certification to race in another series. His styling led to what we seen years later from the japs sv 1000r ring a bell? Britton and Buels 750 2t are what realy inspired me to learn as much as I could about fabricating at home as a young lad. Most dont know that buel made his own eng before hooking up with hardly. Had Honda not been hell bent to eliminate the 2ts from gp we would see bikes in the 1000cc range with a 2t motor The new artic act m8000 a 799 cc 2t eng making 160+hp FIhttp://ca.arcticcat.com/snow/sled/M8000 motor in a bike chassis just the thought makes me gigle.
  8. Making a plaster plug to get the port shape is also a good way to be able to measure it.
  9. Lots of different ways to copy it IE...Tape paper inside the bore mark top and bottom of the ports bottom of barrel top of barrel. And trace or blue die( blue die the barrel and press paper to it the die will only stick to the bore not the ports) the shape this way you can duplicate it later if needed No doubt they will be altering the port height width ect and I trust you using a reptibule sorce for this work so learn from them
  10. O2 sensor is bad no doubt, send that 1 back and get another no wonder you hate it its broken.
  11. HAHA I am on my 3rd copy of TOTW funny how people who dont think they can learn how to ride from a book want to keep them, after they learn something and don't want to admit it. Thanks Felix I actualy opened up the book last night and had a skim read and found the signature for my profile I have been looking for "ride hard and die free" was a little to ??? Boring,Old ________ Holy crap I'm getting older and so are you RZ Jeff FN book was written in 1983 unles you read it as a 5yr old Way back when a 140mm rear tire was HUGE And dunlops were good. Bridgestones were made from rocks, and sliPerliles were only good in the rain. But the me33 metzler ruled for street riding. Dont even know how we rode on biasis tires now been spoiled with radials for so long.
  12. Hi this is the section to say hi,,, not post questions move it to the workshop to get help ,,but in a nut shell to your question NO.
  13. Watching quitely just so you know, but after you get the porting done get some measurements and good picts.
  14. Hey Klume see your back with another weird problem. I cant belive someone here dosent have a manual to look up the specs for the pick up coil Just to recap all you have done You now have proper rings in the motor and thats all sorted right? You have the new carb boots sealed up ,gaskets fit properly? Your 3 wheeler voltage regulator is still holding 14v steady? Your battery is in good working order? When you swaped coils you also swaped the spark plug boots or did you use the same old ones? So if yes to all of the above, then lets start with the simple things. So we can all get a real understanding of what is happening How long did the bike run right before this started? How long does the bike run right before this problem starts? Is the rotor and pick up tight? possibly have come loose ? Have you tried to remove the gas cap and drive it/start it when it has the problem? How long does the bike have to cool down before you can drive it again? As for the resistance value of the pick up coil sorry cant help, but if you test your other bike they should be close in ohms value, as you have allready changed everything else related to spark why not swap the pick up and see if it fixes the problem. Or as you have removed coils from a running well bike test that bike and compare when both bikes are warmed up/hot
  15. FI vs Carb Pros 1 always runing at the same fuel mix sea level or in the highest mountan 0 performance change 2 Plug and play tuning no removing to change little to no guess work. 3 self adjusting for low grade fuel 4 3d maping for fuel delivery ( also applies to late model carbs with a tps) 5 lower emmisions 6 longer spark plug life 7 less wear on starter as bike fires up much easier and faster rarely ever stalls 8 knock sensor stops, retards igniton so less wear on internal parts 9 injectors last for decades with no maitence 10 2t and 4t never melt down a piston again from running lean 11 computer tell you what part has malfunctioned. Cons 1 Must have battery power to start 2 must have fuel pressure to work 3 fuel pumps dont like to be run dry ever 4 if stored fuel pump must be immersed in fuel 5 If broken down at road side forget about fixing it. 6 parts to fix =expensive and very vehicle specific 7 cam and crank sensors pron to failure, tps tend to get flat spots in the unit where most used 8 CAN and BUSS lines sensitive to corrosion, they will send faulty signals to the CPU. Dont worry about a kick starter you would never need it,if it wont start on the starter then it wont start! Starters dont just up and stop working,,,, normaly they slowy die and you dont need to replace the whole starter a new brush kit and a cleaning of the armature segments normaly gets them working just fine.
  16. Kieth Code has writen the best books by far twist of the wrist is more than 20 yrs old now but every lesson is still applicable.Read it cover to cover now durring the winter and then in the spring go out and review each chapter and do each lesson. Thats the best way to get the most out of his teachings, read ,apply read apply. Personaly I think it should be a manditory read for every new rider,,anyone who I have convinced to read it have all become better riders because of reading it .It gives you a better mental understanding of what happening and how to change it to your favourwhen you plan goes wrong. YOU ONLY HAVE A DOLLAR SO SPEND IT WISELY The soft sicence of road racing is the next 1 to get ,if you want you can borrow mine as long as I get it back

Ya I read this first then replied to your PM more info in that,if you check out the cams lift/profile lets me/us know and just thought about the Radian 600(might have been the mini v max your side???) it had alot of torque compared to the fz so it must have had different cams as well.Steering rake and seating position but dam that bike was easy to wheeile compared to the fz. Yam did alot of different things with that motor so mixing different cams ie a xj exhaust and fz intake or oppsite would be interesting and easy to dyno to find the best set up.For example changing my Intake cam on the bandit for a 1989 gsxr 1100 intake is good for 15 hp but a loss/change of torque curve Your better at the puter stuff run the part numbers and see how many different ones there were.I bet they are all different. as are the cdi's

Grouch you owe me a hour,I have never seen X FARTS before so I watched last night as it just happend to be on complet CRAP IMO even the so called stars of the show were crap. Though I would watch again if someone would punch Simon in the kisser,,fak that guy is so anoying. With the shows you guys get I cant understand why anyone would watch such crap,no wonder I dont watch TV and find the stuff I want to watch on line

When I did mine many moons ago way back in 1988 I fitted the fz alt I dont remember 100% but prety sure it was a simple r/r job, must have been cause I did the swap in less than a day. I was swaping a 86 fz for a erum? 84 fj (xj your side)The cdi has different maping the fz being the better The down side to the eng swap is the transmission ratios are different as well, mainly 1st and 6th I think.6th becomes just about usless for anything but crusing no power for over taking. But improves MPG
  20. Clean out the oil from the box reset the oil level to below max,a over full motor will force out oil.Clean out the vent tube and reinstall. Then drive it for a week and check to see if the oil is back in the box,if not all is well ....if it is back then have a compression test and a leak down test done to determin the condition of the rings and valve seating If the bike has been droped this may not have been cleand out after and nothing to worry about.
  21. Thanks kev I'll give it a try next time. I wasted a hour +watching all the different vids I found about the place, just amazing the work put into the whole thing.Wouldnt want to have to trouble shoot a failure,a simple home train set can be frustrating to fix the bad connection could you imagine 13kms of track to sort out . As a boy my grandfather had a co worker who transformed his house to have his train set run through the whole house, complete with a tanker to deliver coffe, tea, cookies and I thought that was incredible, but this is a marvel of engenering
  22. WOW I would love to see this, can someone explain to me how to post the video not just the address http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ACkmg3Y64_s
  23. How much did you have to pay the security guard to turn his back while you snuck it out the back door of the museum, thats one clean bike you found.Looks prety much original, doubt it seen much if any dirt, how many miles on her? I dont think NOS signals are going to be easy to find but aftermarket copys should be easy, emgo used to make em,a couple of fork seals and seat cover and she's a driver. Speaking of seats hows the base? They can get bad quick once the seat cover rips and water gets traped in there
  24. ER um the bike show is in a few weeks can alway get a great deal on riding gear, got a piar of 300.00 dollar boots for the boy for less than a 100.00. Personaly I wouldnt buy a pair of boots unless I tried them on first, each brand fits slightly different and this is a long term investment,a good pair of boots will last 10 years so might as well get the most comfie ones .
  25. All I can say is well done.and + always= a good
