The only other shaftie I owned was a GS650 Katana in 1984. :oops: I hated the bike....nothing to do with the shaft...I just didn't like it. I can't comment on the Virago cos I'm not keen on that type of bike anyway, but the shaft on the Divvy is very smooth indeed. Probably one of the best shaft drive units to come out of Japan. I would try and get a ride on a non-cruiser shaftie....you may well be surprised!

touring....Divvy 9....you gotta have a shaft drive for a tourer. sports....FZR750. commuting....Divvy 6. off road....XT350.

If you want a shaft drive bike today, there's hardly any choice at all....apart from a load of ugly Beemers! FJR or Pan....that's basically it (don't mention the Wing or the Dullville) since the demise of the Divvy 9/GT750. 30 years ago I thought just about everything would have gone to shaft by now. I know it's extra weight etc...but it's just so easy and clean, and no large bills for sprockets and chains. I reckon shaft drive is very underated, and tbh it's probably unfashionable, but I'd never want to go back to a bike with a chain. What about you lot....any experience of Shaft Drives?

It appears that some of the spluttering on the DT175 is being caused by unleaded petrol and old fuel in the tank. So today I will be mainly riding round trying to clear that stuff out of the tank and replace with LRP. So if anybody sees an old guy riding round Mid Wales screaming the guts out of an old DT, that'll be me. :oops:

Haven't got a chain Dave! I suppose if you count the DT175 then I have. No, I only use GT85 for WD40 purposes. Chains I use PJ1 Blue.

OK...here's my situation: I'll ONLY buy Jap....no ifs or buts, that's it! So that leaves the Big 4. Firstly Honda....great build quality, reliability etc, but I don't like the way they've become very thirsty and overpriced over the years. Plus there's the Gay thing as well. Kawasaki....I love Kwaks....but my fondness for them is more to do with the triples and the Zeds than anything they've done in the last 25 years. They've made the mistake of churning out the same old stuff year after year, then when they bring in something new, it's fucking hideous like the Z750/Z1000. And now they are sharing parts and ideas with Suzuki? Fucking kiss of death that is! And Suzuki? Well I think I've made my feelings pretty clear on them. The only purpose they serve is to educate newer riders on shit build quality, oil burning, and bad customer service! As I said before...."There's no excuse for Suzuki ownership!" So who does that leave? 8)
