It's probably a better idea to keep the hats on. Those mullets could frighten the kids you know.

Never wanted my kids to ride bikes...certainly not on the road anyway. And certainly not the way that motorcycling has turned out. It takes a lot of skill, hard work, the right attitude to even get to the point where I would consider somebody as experienced and capable of surviving. And I don't want them being vulnerable....selfish I know, but I can't help it. Offroad I don't have an issue with.

Nobody before me ever was a Biker....and thankfully, nobody after me either.

I've thought the same of you too Alan...you'd have fitted in well years ago. It's down to your father giving you those values, and more importantly, YOU taking them on board. You sure you're not a frozen embryo from the 60's?

I wouldn't own a Z1 now Alan cos that bike in todays world would be lacking in a lot of things....and I'm no mechanic as you know. But this brings me on to a real peeve of mine....when DAS kiddie journalists of today test a classic then rip it apart by comparing it to more modern machines. The fact of the matter is that you had to ride machines like the Z1, Kwak triples, GS750 (yes, that was a superb bike) in THAT era, not this. Same as music...listen to some of the great rock classics of the 60s and 70s now and they sound flat and dated. But in that era they were groundbreaking. I remember listening to Hendrix and "Purple Haze" in the Summer of 67 and I didn't know those sounds were coming from a guitar. It sounds ridiculous but you have to bear in mind that prior to Hendrix, no-one had ever made a guitar sound like that. So you see with all classic stuff, you had to be there to feel it. Looking back and comparing just doesn't do it justice.

It's the ethics (or lack of) of Suzuki Motor Corporation that I don't like.

  11. Somebody who's been into bikes since a kid and counted down the days till he got a licence. Somebody who doesn't care if a bike is fashionable...as long as it's a bike. Somebody who cherishes our motorcycling history. Somebody who was very upset when the National Motorcycle Museum burnt down. Somebody who wants a return to a Brotherhood, not a catwalk fashion show for bored Yuppies as it is now. Somebody who sees old guys on vintage bikes and gives them respect. Somebody who'd help out another biker. Somebody who's paid his dues in blood and sweat on unfashionable machinery.....rather than paying his dues by buying into a lifestyle with his credit card. People like that do still exist you know. 8)
  12. The only place that they will get outperformed by other bikes is Motorways or fast A roads. I negotiated Cardiff city centre rush hour traffic the other week, and no other bike I've ever had (and I've had 45) has been able to carve through gridlocks like that before. No matter what you throw at it, it just does it with ease. I'm just pissed off that I didn't discover these things before. They really are motorcycling's best kept secret.

  14. Nothing fazes them Alan...have you noticed how you take cattle grids, bad road surfaces etc and feel nothing?

Great to hear from you Alex! Don't worry, everythings fine here...there's been some talk of Suzukis and Tattoos, but me and Moz have put a stop to that nonsense.
  20. Fucking hell....I agree with Mozzy again! Get the Samaritans on the phone quick!

And I think it's sacrilege trying to cash in on the Rocket 3 name! Not that the Rocket 3 was any good...cos it wasn't. Neither was the Trident. But they do have a place in history and no doubt some people have emotional attachments to the name. So it's just a way to exploit those people really. FFS if they haven't got anything worthwhile to build, just do a Suzuki and steal it!

It's like the late 60's/early 70's all over again....building ugly, under-performing shite that nobody wants.
