I'm allowed to be here now.....
I did a bit more work on it today. Last night I drenched the spokes in WD40, so this morning I was able to tension all the loose ones. Loosen off...then tighten...it's a forgotten art. Also applied Jenolite rust remover to all the bad spots on casings, brackets, frame, bolts, and disk hub. Plus every spoke was treated with it. Then rubbed down with sandpaper and cleaned up. Once the treated areas were ready, they were then painted....brackets, rack, footrests, pedals, and stand. It appears that it still has the original battery, which isn't holding it's charge. So I've got to get another one...about £20 I think. Also got to get hold of a manual cos I think it's running a bit lean, so I'll have to make a few adjustments in that area. Plus.....my Michelin Siracs should go on it on Friday! Why do I do all this to a thousand pound bike?.......Pride of ownership...I don't know any other way!

I'm allowed to be here now.....
It's rare to find one in this condition Alex....this one had been stored for years in the warehouse of a carpet shop in town. The wife noticed the XT cos the despatch doors were open, she told me about it, and I followed it up. Got a fair bit done on it today! The insurance certificate arrived so I went and taxed it. Then I did a couple of hours work on it. Then this afternoon I went over to Halfords in Aberystwyth (45 miles) to get a road legal plate, and stopped off in Rhayader on the way back and got a pair of KTM type mirrors for a tenner. Then back home, fitted plate and mirrors and a bit more tidying up. It's starting to take shape.....but I've got a lot more to do yet. Here's how it looks at the moment...

I'm allowed to be here now.....
....cos I bought another XT as a ratbike! It's a 1991 XT350....genuine 5500 miles. Bog standard apart from Renthal bars and a road legal Predator stainless steel sytem. Cost me a grand....took it for MOT this morning and it sailed through it. Goes great, engine is as sweet as a nut....just got to give it a serious clean up now. What do you think?

bad vibes
Bob....all the Divvys are vibey....you can't avoid it. However if you suffer from numb fingers there is an answer....and I've found it after years of discomfort. Hand guards....it won't eliminate it completely, but you'll notice a big difference.

XJ600 Diversion as 1st big bike?
The thing to remember about the Divvy is that "it is what it is". So you can throw some money at one area, but the result is that will then highlight deficiencies in other areas. You could in theory spend a small fortune....but at the end of the day it's still a 60bhp old tech bike. And you'll never recoup those costs. My advice? Ride it, get experience, build up NCB, and then move on to a Fazer!

Yamaha oil-types?
Why do you rate Motul so highly? And what do you feel about Mobil 1?

Yamaha oil-types?
You're the first person I've ever heard say that mate. Can you elaborate a bit....cos even the sites and forums on oil discussions rate Silkolene very highly.

XJ600 Diversion as 1st big bike?
The Divvy is an ideal learning tool....and you can get them cheap too. Try and get a later double disc model if possible though. Don't expect great performance and pinpoint handling, but it's reliable and will give you 65mpg. THIS is the place for info.

Banned?
Aren't you the guy who only just passed your test and bought an R1? I was only wondering where you'd got to the other day. About the offence...I'm no expert cos the last endorsement I had was in 1975, and I'm not sure what the procedure is now. But if they do stick a dangerous driving on you and the 2 cops go to court and give evidence that they estimated your speed to be around 150mph then the court will take their word for it I'm afraid. What you will need to do is to wait for the charges to come through and then see a brief IMMEDIATELY! You'll need to sell your bike before you get to court, and say you've finished with bikes.....your brief will probably tell you the same. If you don't get a switched on brief you could potentially be looking at jail time...so ask around locally for recommendations....or look in the back of MCN for specialists in that area.
