XTs Aren't Perfect
I'm exactly the same Alan....I only make an exception for people that I know can ride. So consider yourself one of the chosen few! And yes, lovely day, we just had a little spin over Devil's Bridge cafe again.

XTs Aren't Perfect
Hey Alan...maybe an idea when we meet up next to try each others bikes for a couple of miles? Then we'll see the differences.

XTs Aren't Perfect
You're right about the loosening up the motor Alan. Mine was very tight when I got it at 1600 miles. The guy had never been out of Haverfordwest on it in a year. Just pottered it round the town, so never really warmed up and never ridden hard. But consistent thrashing and continual oilchanges have transformed it by 4200 miles. One thing I've noticed about the XT...it takes a long time to really get warmed up. But the longer and harder you ride it, the better it goes. It just thrives on being revved.

They Don't Make'em Like They Used To!
The point that I made is that manufacturers don't consider comfort, economy, useability, and practicality as a priority when they make bikes. Comfortable, real world bikes are fairly thin on the ground. They do exist....but you don't have anything like the choice that you would have if you wanted a sportsbike. That was the point I was making.

They Don't Make'em Like They Used To!
No need to....I've owned two. 8)

They Don't Make'em Like They Used To!
You're right Alan. What gets me is that nobody builds sensible, useable bikes any more. Everything's an extreme...extreme sports, extreme cruisers, extreme tourers etc. Where are the real world bikes these days? Things like comfort and economy are never considered. And why can't they build bikes that are lighter. 30 years ago you could buy a Z1 and it would do anything you wanted it to do on-road. Try finding an equivalent today....it doesn't exist.

The Day Today!
Yeh...whenever I'm near Lampeter I always stop there Alan. Huge Burgers! 8)

The Day Today!
Had a little run about today, and stopped in the Co-op car park in Lampeter for a burger. And what did I find parked there? 1956 Velo...not sure what model, but it's water cooled and shaft drive, and owned by the woman working in the Burger Van. Anyway, carried in and was tailed by a big musclebike through about 5 miles of tight twisties. When we reached a long straight he caught me up, and bloody hell...I've never seen anything like it! NOTHING has ever accelerated past me that fast and completely silently. Anyway we hit a load of traffic and we pulled into Llandovery together. He got off, we had a good chat, and it turned out that he was riding a demo bike from Garland & Griffiths, Haverfordwest, with a view to buying one. He then showed me the underneath on both sides....worn right down trying to stay with the XT out in the sticks. Dai Garland's gonna be freaking out when he sees it! Anyway...what was this bike that is a bit limited in the twisties, but is a real fucking beast in a straight line? The new Rocket 3....in real life it's even more hideous tbh. But believe me, that thing goes like nothing I've ever seen before....in a straight line!

Brand Snobbery gone mad!
Here's a stupid story! I've been trying to get a screen for the XT, and only one company makes them....Secdem in France. Their website is all in French, so I e-mail them in English saying I want to order a screen. And I get no reply! So...I locate the only stockist of Secdem products in the UK...Motobins in East Anglia. I phoned them up and said I wanted to order a screen for my XT600. They refused to accept my order because they will not take any orders UNLESS it's for a BMW. So for the sake of elitism and brand snobbery, these wankers turn business away! The whole world's gone fucking mad!
