DT125LC Mk2
You seem to be having the very same dilemma that I had the other week when I got my DT 125 LC. I was 100% convinced that I had the mk II as mine is on a D plate and registered on the 31/12/86 so you can't get much later than that. However I still had my Haynes manual from 1991 when I first had a DT and due to the disc brake they say it's a MK III yet the decals off the MK III are completely different and the lower parts of the forks have plastic guards on them whereas mine doesn't. I too bought that guide off Yuni parts and it states for all 1986 models 35A onwards yet everything on my bike shows 34X so I'm kinda thinking that mine really is an 85 bike and it sat around unregistered for over a year but then Haynes throw another spanner in the works and say that the MK II never had a disc brake on the front as the changes from MK I to MK II were purely cosmetic???? I don't even know where to start with the whole powervalve thing as I'd love mine to have one and for it to be working as I'm 4 stone heavier than I was in 1991 and my MK I wasn't that fast back in the day! If you PM your email address, I'll send you over that Yunipart catalogue as it may help you a bit. Also, I've got a headlight and surround if you're interested. EDIT This is on Ebay at the mo. Morning Nev Where do you recommend the heat resistant cloth from because every time I say I've ordered something you have a better idea so I'm coming to you first! Insurance Questions
Morning Matthew This "accident" will not affect your NCD earned on your other policy but you will have to declare it on each and every policy (whether car or bike) for "X" amount of years. Usually companies want to know about accidents for three years but some do ask for up to five years. If this is your first "fault" accident, then it should not affect any premium. I obviously say fault as it was your bike and the other vehicle was the innocent party so it's not a reflection of you or what happened!! Scott

What are the bets that if we did actually do this we'd get screwed further? I'm sure the modern bikes would come out okay but what about our nice 70's toys that were born to pollute! They'd end up getting taxed off the road followed by a government "scrap your old 550 and get £150 towards this Honda Runofthemill 125cc that does 135mpg" I'll be a typical Brit on this one and moan my a55 off and do flip all about it

Why Bikes Are The Best Therapy
Sometime ago when I was introducing myself to the forums, I made a comment that if the government gave out motorbike licenses instead of prozac, the country would be a far better place. Now I'm not mocking anyone who suffers from this medical condition, far from it, you have my every sympathy but I was mearly trying to explain what bikes and riding meant to me. I've done the pack thing, hated it. I've done the touring pack thing, tolerated it (too many hero muppets at the front). I've done the riding in threes, bearable. Twosies? Not bad at all, quite relaxing as long as your mate isn't a hero muppet (see touring pack thing) No, what my bikes have always meant to me were the means of alternative transport away from the norm of everyone else sat in their tin cans on their way to work. Again, don't get me wrong, I love my cars and always have but this is a bike forum so I'm bulling up our two wheeled buddies. I bring my dog into work most days so I have to bring my car but if I haven't got her, then I'm on the bike whatever the weather (within reason, I have to grip and stop!) Take today, it's peeing down in my neck of the woods but thats what waterproofs are for. Granted, wet manhole covers and the forthcoming wet leaves dropping do make your eyes open a bit wider but that's all about the fun and freedom of biking. I suppose what I'm really getting at regarding the topic (sorry I've trailed off again) is because of what happened to me last night. I live in a small village in the North West. There are only three houses and I'm in the end one so I gained all the land to mess with my bikes in the back garden!!! My neighbours are the best in the world, they are away a helluva long time through the year hence why they moved to a village from a big city as they wanted somewhere quiet and trusting. Best neighbours in the world to be honest. You can't beat cranking up the sound chair on Call of duty and letting off some steam and know you're not disturbing anyone, whoa, come back Anyway, I digress. Every now and again, their grown up children come over to stay as they live abroad. Both married with children. This time, the eldest son has come over .... on his own ..... and he's brought two Hungarian buddies with him .... Guess what, not a peep from them. I've was in the garden last night playing with the DT listening to their very quiet radio next door and they had the oldies channel on. Excellent, a bit of Elvis and a bit of DT, all I needed was a can of Strongbow and life would have been perfect but I was applying decals so not the best combination. Long story short, I've got an early start this morning so off to bed at 1030 as it's a "school night" and I'm covering for the manager in the office so best to have my wits about me. 1100pm, a taxi arrives, so do more Hungarians with lots of wine. I took it for a long as could, 1202 to be precise when I stormed downstairs to have a word. Now I'm Mr Placid and it takes a lot to push my buttons but shouting at the top of your voice, dragging chairs across the balcony and flicking cigarette ends onto our private road (no road sweepers so who's going to tidy up?) along with effing and blinding (it was in Hungarian but I know swear words when I hear them) was just too much. Again I'm no prude and only a young lad myself but on a school night, cmon. I'll leave out the facts from the middle but the point of my story is that I got about four hours sleep when I was planning for much more. It was raining this morning but I still reached for the bike keys. I'm still still fuming at the ignorance of next door but over the six and a half miles to work, last night became a distant memory. I arrived at work bright eyed, fresh as a daisy and ready for what they day threw at me. Anyone relate to this .. (I really must stop going on like this. Does this forum have a moderator for waffle????)

I did some touring around your neck of the woods a few years ago and after a few nights in various b&b's I split off from the pack as they were a bunch of nutters (not my riding style) and I wandered around on my own for about five hours. You do have some great roads out there. Only thing was I kept getting lost and ending up in a place called Peebles and after about two hours of not getting any further from it, I was getting a tad nervous. It was like one of those old fashioned horror movies where no matter what exit road you take, you always come back to the same place. Eerie. I always said that if I ever have to write my biography, i was going to call it "All Roads Lead To Peebles" The day didn't get any better when I was doing a very low speed 180 turn and stalled the bike in the middle of nowhere (prbably Peebles) and over I went, on my own, no one for miles and I had a Pan European full of fuel. Sheer willpower got that bike back up that day as no one was coming to help I still keep pushing the hernia back in to this day

Actually you've kind of hit the nail on the head there. I waffled on for the forum equivalent of War and Peace about why I got into bikes and you summed it up in the first sentance. That it is the norm when you hit 16. Crikey, I'd forgot about that. I even enjoyed bikes so much that I stayed on them for a couple more years before buying a car as that was the next natural step. Mind you, the driving test thingy might keep you on bikes for a while!!!! Don't give up but don't forget yer roots

I'm Giving It A Go!!!
I wasn't really planning on doing anything else until the weekend but as I couldn't take anymore Emmerdale last night, I decided to have a bit of a play in the garden with a mock up of how it's going to look. Sadly I neglected the fast that the LC tank has an indentation on the right hand side to accommodate the radiator so placing the transfer on the left hand side first was a bit of a dumb move. After scratching my head for what seemed in excess of 45 mins, I accepted the fact that the decals were not going to be symmetrical and placed the RHS the best I could. the end result wasn't what I wanted but it's not a million miles away from the LHS and the T of the DT folds slightly around the tank which I actually thought looked quite cute in the end. I'm not going for concours so I really didn't want to peel off the label and buy another so this is how I'll justify it in my head! This was supposed to be a bit of light cleaning up for a beach bike but i'm becoming strangely obsessive with the old girl. I really should have realised what was going to happen when in week two my "paint and materials" budget had already gone over by two and half times Uploaded with ImageShack.us The plan to finish this off now is to duplicate the off side rear MX decal on the lower of the rad cover to provide a bit of symmetry on the right hand side and then lacquer the whole thing off. I was pondering the whole thing yesterday and after the usual conflab with Nev about what he'd do, I've decided that lacquer is the best approach as it appears that the decals would be very easy to remove even with my stubby well chewed nails. Also, a grubby off road session with salt water and the power wash would probably eat them alive. This is the zoomed out shot Uploaded with ImageShack.us I don't know whether or not you can see on the rear panel but I attempted to replicate the transfer by doing a triple 6mm pinstriping and removing the centre piece and spraying that (see one one my earlier waffles about that theory). Long story short, disaster. The masking tape bled, the pin stripe tape pulled off paint (prob my fault for not giving it a good enough key but hey ho, I'm learning) and the whole thing looks cack. Granted on a small photo it does look like I've pulled it off. Anyway, thats all coming off tomorrow and I'm now going for the less is more approach, the white and red combo simply with a 125 and MX decal on it. Repeat on the other side. Speaking of the other side, here it is Uploaded with ImageShack.us I've got to admit I had a helluva grin on my face last night seeing her come back together again and the shine on the tank etc. The only disappointment was when I held up my aftermarket headlight and thought that it looked too small and out of place but durrrrr, the front mudguard isn't on so it looked like it was plonked there. One mudguard balanced on an old tin on the front wheel to give the rough appearance of a gap and I held the light in place and that grin went from ear to ear. Sadly I couldn't take a picture as I'd run out of hands by this point. So this weekend will be re-painting that dodgy panel, decal up everything else, lacquering like I've never lacquered before and I'm going to start playing with the electrics as Cynic's suggestion of looking for pattern parts of other Yams worked a treat and I have a box of electrical goodies arriving today. Oh and I've just picked up the new shiny red seat cover from the post office this morning along with my flexible silicon indicators for the rear. That grin just keeps on getting bigger and bigger .... More next week

Yamaha DT 125 LC MK III 1986 Manuals & Handbooks
Just looking at one of OG's old post and if anybody needs help with the following, let me know. I have an A5 micro fiched transfer of the original parts handbook that covers the 35a model but appears to be working perfectly with my 34x DT. I have also tracked down the original handbook from 1986. I have the compulsory Haynes mannaul but I'm assuming that you're not that cheap to ask me for that! If you need any of these emailing over, drop me a line and I'll be glad to help.

Yeah getting back to the original point, we are in the minority which is perhaps why we enjoy a cheary nod to each other as we pass on the roads. Apart from Harley riders. What is it with them? Are other bikers deemed too common to acknoweldge on the road?? (Granted, not all Harley riders are the same, I've seen Goldwing riders snub other bikes). I feel another thread coming on ... Aaarrgghh, help me, productivity at work gone down since discovering this site, please, help, quick ........
