loud pipes or not
My bike gets heard before and after i get there, i love loud pipes and even more so when your filtering between cars in traffic as they most certainly know your there and it makes you feel like Moses when they split out your way. Yes there are better ways to get you "Seen" on the road, but if Mr burbury Brap Brap in his Saxo can blare our Dr Drebble on his CD playar and pump his throttle with the beat then im having louder pipes to let the twat know im coming through

yamaha SR125 cuatome start problems
Right, bit of basics first. what did you do to the tappets? and why did you need to do it? was the engine at Top dead center when you done the tappets? and did you take the cam shaft out? If the motor wasn't at TDC and you moved some thing then the timing will be out and she wont run right at all. The air screws are "normally" either 1.5 turns or 2.5 turns so start at 1 and work up till she feels / sounds like she is running better.

Is this correct?
I firstly hate the British Gov, ive not met many people who actually like our Gov but this law with the way they teach new riders how to ride bikes and progress through the CC band is a good one. No matter how many years riding you have or how many times to hit the apex on a race track you are still a learner and will always be a learner till the bucket falls from under you, and if you tell me that you know it all then i call out the bollocks card. The argument of us not changing bits on our bikes etc already come up in our Gov due to the cheese eating surender monkies in France and the rest of the eco cock helmets over that way in the EU wanted to change it, but our Gov said no to that one (for how long i dont know)

1984 XJ900 heap of crap
Good for you because these things are a royal pain in the ass! It seams to be fighting every step of the way. Half an hour to get the carbs seated in the inlet manifold is taking The piss oall because of the space restrictions. On a good note i have finally got the motor back together

1984 XJ900 heap of crap
ah no the troubles continue, got every thing back together last night and during the victory cigarette i rotated the crank to see if all is good and bang, pistons hit the valves Turns out that the modle that i was told it was ended up that it wasn't and the TDC is lind up by a different mark on the timing plate, so out with the cams yet again, rotate the timing plate 90 degrees and started again, popped on the cam caps and she's now spot on, just gotta set the cams up one more time as they are both about a tooth out but i was so shattered from work and doing that i just gave up and went in for a brew. So today after work it going to be a day down the park with my Nikkita and the dog, then its home to get this all put back together and out my shop.

Is this correct?
Well first off seeing how this one pans out. Now as most im always first in line to kick off about how "us" bikers get the fisting of a life time with road tax and having these stupid laws with what cc bike we ride, but......... riding a 125cc bike helps not only learn to ride and give you those extra few seconds to sort your self out but they also teach you road sence and all the other good stuff to stay say on the road. I will have to disagree with you Dt50 that HP is the golden knight that saves the day always and forever as that is pure bollocks, yes i have not been riding as long as you guys nor have i entered 1 bergillion races (i would look like a cock doing a race on betty for one) but i find general road awareness and ridign lines etc etc are key to "attempting" to stay safe and generally not acting like a prick also helps. As with the remark to Tasky getting rear ended, your telling me that when your just about to turn into your drive your always looking in your mirrors and not to where your going? there are mirror checks but when your looking to the directon your going you cant see whats coming behind you thus you get a shunt from a cunt.

1984 XJ900 heap of crap

My Bobber project
Well im coming up to 1000miles on old Betty now and she's had a few little upsets but nothing major and she's running like a dream, pulls very well in all gears and gets round corners just as good as and squirel on crack. Came out the house this morning to goto work only to find a childs foot print on the lower exhaust and a snapped weld ok.........i know if i was a good welder then i personally should be able to stand on it, but its more the point that some drugged up jerry springer co-star's kid has been fucking with my bike. I have a good idea which one it was but his dad is a wanker and i know for a fact i wont get any money from him for the repairs as he crashed into my wifes old car when we first moved in and he denide every thing to the police etc. So i'll have to finish the XJ900 tonight, beg my mate to lend me his welder and get the pipe fixed for the weekend.

exhaust query confused please help
Yep as Tout said, there is no way round it with any bike, you either have to re-map them or re-jet them depending if you own a carb or a injection bike.

650 Dragstar project
Hey love, getting new forks is like finding hens teeth. I know what your saying with it being out of place but its going to be hard getting them sorted without having major problems, if you give me £600 you can have my and i can by my springer forks haha. As for your shopping list you can get all of them on ebay, also indicators are free! I just point to where i wanna go just type in on ebay 1" grips and fannies your aunt take your pick, same with a side number plate braket and mirror nice modified bar end mirror looks great which again is what i done.

Just saying hello!
Welcome Dave, Im a massive fan of the virago range (Snigger) Hopefully we will solve your popping problem for you

Virago 750 with open pipes
other thing you could consider is a set or 4" long baby baffles, i have them for my bike just for MOT perposes but these knock out the back fireing too. also check your inlet manifolds, these are rubber and tend to crack and let in extra air which again can course to popping.

Virago 750 with open pipes
Hi Dave, welcome to the forum, it also is a good ifea just to pop into the new memebr section later and introduce your self to the masses. Best thing to do mate is to pull out your spark plugs and check them. if they are jet black and i mean like if you'd just dipped them in a bucket of soot then your running the bike too rich (too much fuel) and your need smaller main jets. If the plugs are white then you are running too lean (not enough fuel) and need bigger main jets. My big pops and farts all the time on over run and spits the odd flame now and then but i litrally have straight through pipes and ram filters on the carbs and the only issue i get is a slight flat spot mid range in the revs.

650 Dragstar project
What part is it you cant paint on the forks? Dead flat bars look great but your wrists will be fucked after 5 miles and are best used on drag bikes. Best to go with a set with a bit of a pull back, nothing drastic but a 2" pull back will keep wrist pain at bay.
