  1. Welcome to the club, Hopefully your stick about so i'll help out. Disassembly Remove wing mirrors (as they get in the way) Use a flat head screw driver to free up the left hand grip then twist and pull it off (use some GT85 spray to lube it up if need be) Remove the clutch lever by loosening the nut and pulling it off Loosen the two phillips screws on the horn/indicator/high and low beam controls (don't take the screws all the way out) Loosen the two phillips screws on the throttle controls (Again dont take them screws all the way out) then slide the throttle off Loosen the bolts on the front brake and slide it off (dont leave it hanging as it may leak DOT4 over your bike and then your fucked) Un-do the four 6mm Hex key bolts on the handle bar risers and ditch the bent bars (note that there is an arrow on the risers telling you the way they fit back on RE-assembly Fit handle bars and bolt loosely with the risers in the correct direction (just nip the bolts up to stop them dropping on the tank / head light) Fit the front brake Fit the throttle unit Fit the clutch Fit the horn/indicator/high and low beam controls Slide the left hand grip back on Sit on the bike Possision the bars where they feel best for you and tighten the four hex key bolts Possision the rest of the controls where you want them and tighten all the screws and bolts / nuts Have a cuppa
  2. ..............................................................I know
  3. Hi Dan, As My PM said the 125 is a cracking bike but the guys are right, the money i wasted on my 125 could have been spent on the 650 i got or even could have put it towards the 1100cc. By all means do what you feel is best but as your bike is near on mint condision you will get more dollar out of it stock than customised when it comes to sell it on. If you do chop it start up a project thread on it, would be cool to follow your progress
  4. Well i done a little bit of work to the bike last night, i was just going to have the night off but i really didn't want to watch crap TV and Nikkita was sound asleep at 1900hrs so its was time for the man cave. Big hole Engine out Carcas out into the car port and engine on its table Needs some loving I have to Drill out one of these buggers as its so rotten the Hex key cant grip the sides and just rounds the endges.
  5. Go on Ebay, type in Indicators take your pick Buy the ones you like sign for them at post office as your bound to be out (i always am) open box remove old indicators fit new ones find out that one of them has a blown bulb buy set of 4 bulbs fit new bulb swear exesivly as you have just snapped the lense log back into Ebay regret leaving possitive feed back buy the more expensive ones that you first saw repeat steps 5 - 8
  6. Yer but least im not scared of using all my HP to avoid a rear ender hahahaha
  7. Well done for getting it fixed, now go and buy a Haynes manuel if you want to tamper with the tappets again

Just a curious trial and error test, could you slightly un bolt the coils and place a long bit of wire between the coil and frame, bolt the coil back down wedging the wire in between the frame and coil, then connect the other end of the wire to the negative on the battery. This worked on my step dads harley and confirmed that he had a bad earth on the coil to frame jobber.
  9. Very snazzy, time to hit the road and get some smile miles done
  10. I would love to but having a break from fixing bikes for a while as i think i need to find the daughter again, been a very long game of hide and seek haha.
  11. Fuel filter change is as quick as having a cigarette (not at the same time) the carbs cleaning is a little longer but still easy enough.
  12. Yer i can push Betty when in gear and clutch out, takes some grunting and smelly damp patches in the groin area but it can be done.............not sure why you want to do it tho but guess we all have licked a 9v battery to find out what its like
  13. All fixed, i tried tidying my photo bucket account up with snazzy folders but looks like it just cocks up your posts
  14. Im pretty sure your fine on the 400, the mounting holes could be a bit off but im 99.99% sure they are the same
  15. I bought a brand new battery and tried starting my bike not realising the fuel line was kinked and flattend the battery so you never know you may have a weak cell and not have enough cranking amps left in it. Try the car battery and see if it works. As for the papers you used to stack them up to the recommended thickness "close enough"
  16. Fag papers used to be the old sckool feeler gauge
  17. Yer im either thinking this is tappets incorrectly set or your battery isn't pumping out eough amps to turn her over fully and keeps the charge going. did you over tighten any thing in the head when you done the tappets? just a tought as if you have then the engine will struggle to turn over with that much resistance on the cams / tappets
  18. Yer thats exactly the way i took them out, and i had the same issue with the indicators till i swaped the fuse box and that seamed to solve loads of problems the main one being the secret code to start the bike by turning on the ignition tapping the head light three times and then it would start! Best thing for the fuel tank mate is to buy a can of petrol resistant laqour from Halfords and it works a treat, only costs less than a tenner.
  19. A car battery has more cranking amps and will help fire it up with out having to bump it. I know you may have said it before but right before you played with the tappets etc what exactly was the bike doing for you to do the work? just trying to get a clear picture of what could have gone wrong as it seams like its all down to the carbs not getting enough fuel in the cylinder.
  20. Well here we go.........time to brush off the cob webs, kick out the local tramp cat and wheel this bit of kit into the cave. Yesterday was a "fix a bike day" at my house and it all started at 0500hrs (yes that time exists on a Sunday) and it was a case of getting the XJ900 finished and started up to be delivered. i then got home to clean the cave and put Betty in to fix her broken exhaust which is now all tickerty boo. Then my mate Doc turns up with his Triumph Speedmaster with the common fault of a leaking Cam cover gasket which just mean taking off the seat and tank and torquing up the fouor bolts but he's in the process of buying a new gasket and washers so it cures the problem completely. Then after all that crapola, it was time............ The Purple helmet warrior rolls into the cave and gets attacked by some tools (yes that's me and my mate) Chain Off Carbs out Exhaust off Engine nearly ready to come out Honda Fireblade shock temporely in (needs spacers etc) Going to have the engine out tonight and the rest of the bike is going back out into the car port out my way so i can get going on the re-build
  21. Cracking story that Richie, why is it that all great things start in the pub? or should i say, why is it they always sell there shit in the pub?? haha How did you find the 600 with taking it apart? i struggled like buggery with gettin ghte carbs out and then back in again on the 1984 XJ900 i just did, also have you thought about up dating the fuse box under the seat? just that i found that the pins that hold the fuses in are now "never to be sold ever again.............EVER" so the man at Yamaha told me, so if they snapp then its out with the gaffa tape.
  22. Have you tried jumping her with a car battery?
  23. Well thats it, she's finally done and delivered! She fought me ever step of the way even when i rode her to my mates house to give it back to him as the fuel line was going up hill so no fuel was getting into the carbs, so a quick road side reapir with a tie wrap that i had in my pocket and off we went, i gotta say that she actually ran and rode very well and i can see why he keeps it going. It is riddled with faults but mostly because this one is so poorly maintained. Here are some final pics. Old fuse box New fuse box New exhaust Engine finally looking nice (minus the two dog hairs and the fuel leak dribble) I had to change the fuse box because it was so badly rusted that when i took a fuse out the cradle pins snapped so i thought it best to upgrade it to a modern day type box.
  24. So you got a spark, You got a good strong battery. You got fuel in the tank. Do these Sr's have a fuel pump? if so is that working and priming the carb? is the float bowl on the carb filling up with fuel?
