Yer you will get oil come out when you take the starter motor out as it basically is in the bowls of the motor, tip for next time if you cant be arsed to drain the oil just get something strong to prop the bike up on and a mate to lean the bike over to the other side so that the oil moves away from the whole that the motor goes in. The fragments (if any at all) will be down in the sump as they are heavier than the oil so you wouldn't have felt much or any at all. Can you turn the motor over by hand by using a socket and wrench on the rotor?
-
Hi Luke, Is the motor turning over by hand? IE where the timing marks are on the rotor, there will be a bolt on there and you can get a socket and wrench on it to turn the motor over. Also are you getting a spark? PS bobber are brilliant

Drain and check the oil for nasty bits, if you find metal fragments in the bottom of the oil catch can then you have had something give up the ghost. If you find nothing in the oil then take the oil snorkel out (on the left side of engine, 2 Allen bolts) and see if there is any metal frags in there.

When you press the starter button dose it make a nasty crackling sound? Have you checked to see if your battery is fully charged?

I just don't get it? still waiting for a reply but they say the will do so in 6 working days, but i have 7 working days to pay up or they are sending it to their debt collectors and possible county court. I informed them that there would not be sufficient funds in our account due to an unforeseen bill that went out but they said as the money has already been requested they cant stop it, but low and behold they sent me the letter telling me about this charge AFTER they requested the money. Extract from their letter i got today Further to our previous letter we have tried to take the balance due of £97.23 from your debit/credit card but it was declined by your card issuer. This matter is now urgent and requires your immediate attention. To ensure no further action is taken, you should make payment within the next seven days. Failure to submit the required sum will result in an additional charge of £35 being added to the debt and the matter being passed to our debt collectors who, if the debt remains unpaid, will add their own charges to the outstanding amount and action may be taken to recover the debt through the County Court. If this action is taken and Judgement is obtained, details will be recorded on your credit record. In addition to the debt increasing with solicitors’ costs and court fees, this will result in you experiencing difficulties obtaining credit in the future.

Anybody shed any light on this as im confused. When i owned Betty i went through Lee to get insured and as always more than impressed with the service, but now that i have sold Betty and no longer need the insurance Adrian Flux has gone all bank robber on me and i cant see why. Just for stating that i no longer have the vehicle and thus would like to cancel the policy they are now charging me £97.23? Now i pay all my insurances monthly as i never seam to have the full amount in my pocket to pay it off in one lump and its easier to manage i find, so i did have a fair few months left remaining on the policy but in the past when ever i cancelled a policy i only used to get a small "Admin" fee, if anything at all so what the heck is this £97.23 charge for?? I have emailed Adrian Flux to find out what the hell its about but as of yet i have not heard anything. So, Any ideas? have any of you had this before? Regards N

Nearly shagged a Ladyboy last night. Picked him up in a night club. He Looked like a woman. Smelled like a woman. Danced like a woman. Even kissed like a woman, but as we arrived back at his apartment he reversed his car into a tight parking slot in one fluid movement! That's when I thought -Hang on just a minute! ***************************** I saw my mate Charlie this morning, he's only got one arm bless him. I shouted - Where you off to Charlie? He said, I'm off to change a light bulb. Well I just cracked up, couldn't stop laughing, then said, - That's gonna be a bit awkward init? - Not really. he said. I still have the receipt, you insensitive bastard. ***************************** I've accidentally swallowed some Scrabble tiles. My next crap could spell disaster. ***************************** The wife's back on the warpath again. She was up for making a home video last night and all I did was suggest we should hold auditions for her part. **************************** Angela Merkel arrives at Passport Control in Athens airport. "Nationality?" asks the immigration officer. "German," she replies. "Occupation? "No, just here for a few days." ****************************** As the coffin was being lowered into the ground at a Parking Officer’s funeral, a voice from inside screams :"I'm not dead, I'm not dead. Let me out!"The Vicar smiles, leans forward, sucking air through his teeth and mutters,"Too late, mate, the paperwork's already done" ****************************** I spent a couple of hours defrosting the fridge last night.Or "foreplay" as she likes to call it. ****************************** After both suffering from depression for a while, me and the missus were going to commit suicide together yesterday.Strangely enough, however, once she killed herself I started to feel a lot better. So I thought - sod it, I'll soldier on. ****************************** I woke up this morning at 8 and could sense something was wrong.I got downstairs and found the wife face down on the kitchen floor, not breathing! I panicked. I didn't know what to do.Then I remembered – the local cafe serve breakfast until 11.30. ******************************* "Jesus Loves You." Nice to hear in church but not in a Mexican prison. **************************** Got caught having a piss in the local swimming pool today. The lifeguard shouted at me so loud I nearly fell in. *****************************

Well its been a while since i last updated this thread just been a very busy man (non bike wise) but i can say that a lot has happened to Jenny over the past week or so. So as she stands at the moment she is just and engine and a frame and she has started to show me two things: I'm going to be broke by the end of this build She's so mechanically easy to work on! There has been the odd nut and bolt rusted in place but after some WD40 and the wife's old hair drier they came out easy, the hardest part at that point was getting the lump of an engine out the frame but after a call to a mate and laying the frame on it's side we managed to lift it straight off the motor. So, now that the engine is up onto my engine stand i have managed to start stripping it down and every thing was going brilliant bolts coming out like magic and things where looking good until it came to loosen the cam chain and remove the cam itself, two bolts on the cam sprocket where my target and one of them was a piece of cake the other one however was a prick! popped on my 10mm spanner started easing it round and boom rounded the head In the end i had to use a Whit-worth spanner and a pair of mole grips to get the bugger off and there we have it cam was out bagged and tagged, time to remove the heads Soft hammer comes out, double double check for any missed head bolts, then tap tap tap around the head............... not moving.........tap tap tap around the head again..............Nothing.............................grabbed the sides and pulled pushed spat and screamed at it...............nothing So i then make sure there are 100% no bolts missed in the head stopping it coming off, nothing i got everyone of them out. I then made up some wooden wedges and banged them in between the head and barrels, still nothing. Time to get mad (but not too mad) hit the twatting thing with my mallet and i heard movement, grabbed the head and pulled up and with a sucking noise i had the head AND BARRELS in my hand found out that the gasket has been on there all its life and is just welded into place. But this is the least of my worries, i can not see the pistons and Con Rods, and its not a pretty picture, the pistons are gopping but can be cleaned and re-used once if checked the dims, the Con Rods i can't tell yet, its either dirty old oil on them or they have rusted so bad they now look like a teenager with bad case of spotty face which means im going to have to split the cases and get them out to either replace or salvage. I have lots of pics so i will update tonight or tomorrow for you all.

Gets my vote makes me miss my Betty

Hey buddy, i had a sprung seat on my XVS650 bobber and it was bloody horrid to ride as its already got rear suspension so the seat springs and the standard swing arm springs where almost fighting against each other. They are great if you have a hard tail but not for the soft tails. if you do go for it then the old fanny pads that Slice showed you are great if not the other way to go is to make your own, if you have a black mudguard then get some strong black Velcro and you can then put the pad on and off as you please. I have even seen it done with suction cups.

Hey folks, thought I'd do a quick update on my progress and I'm pleased to say that I just took my full cbt today with two students which one passed but the other needs some more work due to her nerves. So this means if I do one more full cbt like that I get my card and I'm fully qualified

As promised here are the pics of the carbs, started work on them so they don't look as bad now. Spilt down. Choke arms polished Back plate cleaned with nice brass leavers Choke leaver before After Back plate warming up Finished in wrinkle finish black Just need to polish up the carb bodies and add some stainless steel bolts and put them away for a few months.

Hi Adam, Welcome, it would be best to post an intro in the new members section just a bit about you. the XVS125 has been bobber'd quite a few times and i myself did it a few years ago. just remember that these 125's hold their value when stock and by cutting the mudguard frame down you will be basically cutting away the resale value.
