I've always used WD40 to clean the sprocket and chain, works great.

I've got to get one of those http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d2pVtnz6C0Y&feature=related
  3. +1 on the battery, I bet once you get a new one you won't have any problems, and make sure you ride the bike more then the previous owner. 2700 miles in 3 years is way too little.

Try removing the throttle cable first, then make sure the throttle handle moves smoothly, if it does buy and new cable, you never know, the cable may be damaged inside.

Welcome, take it back to the dealer, it's under warranty, so let them have a listen to it. Have you had the bike serviced when the owners manual advises you to and by a dealer, did you run the engine in the way Yamaha advises or did you do it your own way?
  7. Congratulations on the pass and the new bike. Take the wheel off the bike and take it to get the tire fixed, or if you're not feeling to good about riding with a plugged tire then get a new one put on.

Nice bike, if you ride regularly they shouldn't take more then a week or two to properly wear in, if they are still tight after that, then may be you should let your mate wear them for a bit to stretch them out a little. Also riding in rain helps, leather stretches better when wet.

Due to working abroad my 2000 R1 sat since the end of Sep last year, I literally didn't touch it once all this time, took the battery out yesterday morning, charged it over night, just put it back in the bike, give it some choke and it came back to life like I rode it a week ago, now all it needs is MOT and road tax, I was going to sell it this year but I think I’ll keep it a bit longer.

It won't, unless you modify it, I’ve seen it done somewhere, and it didn't look too good.
  13. I've heard a lot of owners in US having the same problem, it apparently gets worst on cold days but no one has actually said what the problem may be, take it back to the dealer and get them to have a look at it.

Thanks for the reply, I’ll give that a go hopefully this weekend.
  15. Hi, I have a 2000 R1 and for the 3rd time now I’ve lost the back brake, basically I went to use it and there was nothing, like it wasn’t even connected, tried pumping it and still nothing, I got to work and tried on my way back home and it was back to normal, now this exact same thing happened 3 times now, I’m pretty sure it’s air in the lines but is there any common places where I could get air leaking in? I’ve looked over the lines and they are in very good conditions and everything seems tight, break fluid was changes a year ago and it’s nice and clean, also I can’t see any fluid leaking out anywhere. Any thoughts will be appreciated. Thanks.

Hope this helps, it's an online manual for your bike, look in the specification sections, http://www.r6messagenet.com/forums/pdf/99-02R6_Service_Manual.pdf

I've been using one of those for the past year or so, very happy with it, been in heavy rain and things inside stayed dry, you can also load a lot of things in to it. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Knox-Six-Pack-Backpa...93%3A1|294%3A24

Welcome to the forum. I've been using a Sprint damper on my 2000 for the last 5 years and I’m very happy with it, never had a problem with it. Have a look at Sprint, Ohlins or Harris, they are all good and fully adjustable, and will keep the front end shakes to a minimum. Hope that helps.

I would just take it back, you have warranty, right?

WD40 to clean, and Castrol wax to wax, i've always done my chain every 2-3 weeks and got 27000 miles out of it on my R1.

I must say I agree with your friends, 2CTs are great for hard street riding, that’s what I’ve been using, and my friend on a Kaw 636 just fitted them on and he says he will be using them from now on.

I have an R1 with a DB screen and it's exactly the same, normal possition the wind is in my face as well, never heard of the lifting out the seat bit, makes no sense to me to be honest.

I've been using Michelin 2CT on my since they came out, I’m very happy with them as my bike is also used for getting to and from work, but because the sides of the tire are softer then the middle it just loves the corners. but you will be hard pushed to get more then about 3000 miles out of the rear, and that's about the norm, you could get more miles out of your tires if you were to fit some super hard touring rubber but if you doing that to an R1 you may as well sell it and get some thing like a Fazer 1000, a lot more suitable for long rides and it has plenty of power as well.

Sounds to me like the chain is too tight, I've had the same problem before, try loosening the chain a bit and see if that helps.
