  1. Hi everybody!!! I just wanted to introduce myself. I am a newby to this website and the motorcycle world. So I got my license by taking a safety course a few months back. I've always wanted to try riding, and I really enjoyed the course, so I decided to get a bike. I'm a student so cash is tight, but I found an old Yamaha xs400sg that I thought was in good shape. Thinking back I paid too much, since I didn't know a thing about bikes. And seeing as how I've spent about 300 on fixing it up... But anyway, I like the bike I think it is a great starter bike. But I'm still in the middle of fixing her up. Since this is my first time, I'm having some difficulties, but overall it's a great learning experience. However I want to get her running strong for the spring and summer. I'll list everything I did so far, and hope everyone can help me out to get her going strong. So far. Brakes (front only) Oil Oil filter Battery Air filters Intake work And Carb cleaning. However I think I screwed up the carb cleaning... I am planning to take out the carbs again and try to get them right... Anyway, thanks for reading. If I get a chance I'll try and post some pics of the bike. Later Ryan

Hi everyone, I'm new to the motorcycle world, and thought I'd start by buying an 80 xs400. It's seems to be a good bike, but it had some reving issues when I would be riding. So I looked around and saw that it might be the carbs... Well being a man I decided that I could fix this myself... So I took off the carbs, replaced the joints and the rubber tubing from the air filters to the carbs, the air filters. (I also did some other things , but nothing that has to do with the carbs) As for the carbs themselves. I took them apart and boiled them in lemon juice to clean them out, replaced all of the pieces, measured the floats to 1.26inches and put it back together... But now when I start the bike on full choke I get a 5000 plus rpm, that slowly creeps up... I tried to turn off the choke, or go half choke, but doing either of that just shuts off the engine... I am assuming that I merely messed up on adjusting the floats. But I was wondering if I may have messed anything else up? Or if there could be something else wrong with the bike? Any and all help is appreciated. Ryan
