  1. Thanks Jim, that's a completely new one to me and I will look into it. It doesn't look like the engine has ever been out of the frame but if I'm still having trouble when the carbs are done I'll look in that direction.

Hi, I am now getting around to getting my XV750 running. Usual story, bought as a restoration project last year from someone that said he hadn't spent any time on it but it became obvious he had, but failed to get anywhere. I have replaced the cracked starter motor and fitted all the suggested upgrades, fitted an almost new standard exhaust to give the mice time to find a new home before I evict them from the still solid original. I have fitted another searter relay, cleaned the carbs and numerous other stuff. It will just about start and chug on one cylinder. I have now decided to get serious and start doing things properly so I have stripped the carbs and sent them on a holiday to an ultrasonic swimmingpool at a local specialists. When they return I need some new mixture screws (only really need the tiny O-rings but they come as a unit), drain plug screws (been mullered by a previous owner) and a pair of float chamber gaskets. The trouble is they are all obsolete because my XV is an 81-83 model with Hitachi carbs. I can get cheap pattern gaskets but they appear to fall apart when they come into contact with petrol!!! Does anyone know any specialists, preferably in the UK but if not, USA that may be able to supply parts for early 80's Jap carbs. If I can get this old girl running there is only a few days work to get it to a useable condtion for the tail end of the summer. Richard
  3. Cheers for the welcome. I really can't explain my obsession with the XS other than passing my test on one. Some are at my Dads house but having the space is a constant issue. Had the Fizzy and one of the XS since 1982!. I will try to get more involved in the forum over the next few months.
  4. Hi guys, long time lurker. I have received plenty from the site already and look forward to being able to give anything back if I can. Current bikes are: 1976 FS1E 1979 XS 400 Custom 1979 XS 400 1984 XS 400 DOHC 1978 XS 250 x2 1979 XS 250 1982 XV 750 2004 TTR 250 And (there is always one Black Sheep) a 1979 Suzuki GT250X7 I probably have some more log books that have come with the masses of spares I have collected to keep them going. I cannot afford to keep them all on the road but always have at least three ready for those rare sunny days.
