  1. Oh yes I ran these on my DT after I killed my trail tyres. They'll be slippery to begin with but a few miles of riding sorts that out and then you'll be able to lean the bike over a lot more and it will ride smoother as they aren't a gnarly tyre. Just pop down to a local bike dealer and request Avon Distanzia AM43 and AM44 tyres. I got mine for £130 supplied and fitted to loose rims.
  2. To gain better road handling you needn't convert it to SM. What I recommend you do is look into buying some Avon Distanzia AM43 and AM44 tyres. They'll transform your bike from a twitchy scrambler into a carving machine. My DTR ran a 90/90-21 up front and a 4.10-18 on the rear.

Lol ok. In that case you need to whip off the front pipe and get your finger up the exhaust port to feel the position of the valve. Switch on the ignition and you'll feel it centre which is when you can ascertain whether it is set correctly or not. If it's correctly set it should feel flush and the valve is flat although they sometimes restricted them by turning the valve over by 180 degrees which meant it effectively never opened. You'll know if it has been swivelled because the face of the valve wont feel flat. Assuming it needs to be rotated 180 then you have to get the casing and pulley off of the valve and then use pliers to spin it over. Refit pulleys and casing and then use the cables to reset the position of the valve and keep switching the ignition on and off to make sure you get it perfectly centred. When it's centred properly the whole exhaust port will feel smooth as the valve will sit flush when it's in it's open position.

I have to agree that London parking is a right asshole. I parked up out of the way when I went to see my brother and got a £100 parking ticket. Wouldn't have been so pissed off if the porter hadn't told me I could park there.
  5. Just hope it's not contact between the piston and valve.

The 89 uses a static powervalve so you needn't touch it except for decoking.
  7. They're fine if you keep them clean and polish them daily/every other day. Neglect them and they'll rust but not enough to cause a blow.
  8. DEP is the best of those systems but don't expect a higher top speed. You'll just accelerate a bit quicker.
  9. There's an Essex meet going on in May if you want to attend that.
  10. Club meet sounds good. Anyone able to get to Ace Cafe? That's a good place to hang out and we can all show off our Cats

If you've already got the DEP system then I would say remove the airbox snorkel and increase main jet to next size up.

You ought to get that airbox snorkel off too if you want it derestricted. Whip off seat, you'll see a rubber tube like a bung. Just pull it off and refit seat.

Funny you should ask because I've been wondering that for a while now. I found out my bike was fitted with the wrong front tyre which would have affected my speedo reading yet I never had any problems which leaves me thinking that the speedo is quite off.

Unfortunately with it being a small 4 stroke, there isn't really much you can do with it. They're designed more for beginners who want something low powered to master clutch control, low speed machine control and body positioning before moving on to larger, more powerful bikes.

Congrats on passing your DAS. The step up is always a memorable experience. I recently stepped up from a Yamaha DT125R to my Thundercat and I'll never forget it. It goes so much quicker in a straight line....and so much slower through the twisties lol

Wind the throttle on slower? Tis a fair bit more savage than a CBR600.

Unlucky man When your tyres have died you should consider some Avon AM43/AM44 Distanzia tyres. They'll make your bike ride a lot better but be careful in winter because not even those can save you from ice. Saying that, they'll do a better job if you lose it while braking because if you can release it again before you go down you should be able to save it.

How the hell did you manage that? Probably chain tension. As the chain gets worn, it slaps around and also the links get loose and rattle. Just go over it and readjust your chain or replace it if it has worn a lot.
