  1. One of the best mods and cheapest mods you can do is to drop 1 tooth on the front sprocket, makes hell of a difference for little pennys spent. You may find you lose a little top end, but its like 5mph at 150mph........ You really should have a performance air filter anyway, with a performance Can!! And there cheap enough anyway.

Hi and Welcome, and enjoy your stay
  5. Hey Amy, Sorry to hear about your mishap, not sure why your engine decided to spit the bottom end, could be down to a number of things like a worn shell / oil starvation e.t.c. My best advice is to keep an eye on ebay, I blew the engine up on my R1, shifted the sleeve in the bore, on a trackday, managed to get a 3000 mile engine including head and gearbox off fleabay for £475, slapped it in, and still running strong with over 160rwhp. Will an R6 or fzr engine fit?? Prob give you more to shop for.... Hope ya get it sorted soon, and get out before the crap weather arrives. lol. Tont

You might be able to unbolt clocks and sneak your hand underneath to undo the loom connector, but usually just as easy to take off front fairing, not usually that difficult, unless you follow the haynes manual........ ..........and dont forget refitting is reversal of removal............

I have the ultra blue lights in my R1, and they are really good, got them off ebay for about £6.99 the pair. Be careful when putting more poweful bulbs in, as they might damage the wiring.
  11. lmao.......... I did read about that last bike in a mag somewhere, bloke who built used a left over monster truck engine, and on race fuel its over 1600hp, and whats even more its road legal, and he drives it to quarter nile drag events................... what a bloke.!!!!!

Isnt the insurance cost an option??? I found a sportsbike quite hard to insure when i had just passed, until i got 2 years experience on a sportsbike....... The fireblade was always known to be a pig, especially the one with the 16" front hoop. The R6 is a good bike, and when riden hard performs best, but not sure if its a good bike for a novice to learn on, as the line where a lesser bike may give you a warning, the r6 will just spit you. I have learned this the hard way. Well that my 2p worth.

Hey mate, Good choice in bike there. I have a 99 R1, and love it to bits. One of the best tips is put a good steering damper on it, they are known for being a bit of a handful, but a good damper will sort that out, if you can afford it go for an Ohlins. As for maintenance like Yanto said get yourself a Haynes manual, depending on how much stuff your gonna be doing yourself, you may need some special tools, (sprocket nut is 36mm, and front axle needs a 22mmish hex key) though its all pretty straight forward, i do most of mine myself. Not sure about power restrictions on stock engines (ive never heard of any), mines had a bit of work and is 165bhp at the rubber. Get some photos stuck on the gallery m8. Tont

Autoglym everything......... Had a good deal on a load of autoglym stuff, from shampoo and conditioner???? to Bike Show Shine (polish in an aerosol can). Tho tbh i dont clean her that much, rather be riding it.
  21. Hey Tomo, Think i might pop up and have a bimble up the quarter mile, wanted to do it last year, but blew the bike up 2 days before. Hopefully mine will be done by then, so let ya know closer to the date. Steve
