I apologise for the late response to Vez and lack of photo but I can confirm that the screw is present where the red circle indicates (Was coated in dirt... now visible!). But the Idle screw is definately missing I think you called it the Throttle stop screw (I used to sort my Idle speed with this on my 4-strokes if revving to high at tick over and fixed all problems with a boggy throttle response). I'm guessing that as the Throttle stop screw is missing I need a new one yesh? If so where the ruddy hell can I find one Vez? Cheers again much appreciated! I'll beer ya one day
  2. I have no Idea how big your garage is but I would invest in one of those Space heaters. If your garage is absolutely huge (at least 5 cars..) Then get a Propane Gas space heater. these things don't cost much and they work perfectly! I don't know if you have a Garage at all but if not http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Metal-Garden-Shed-10x13-10ft-x-13ft-10-x-13-/150549079280?pt=UK_Home_Garden_Garden_Structures_Fencing_CV&hash=item230d6ca4f0#ht_483wt_1022 These things are great and really easy to heat with room to put up work benches and tool cabinets! Good luck in getting warm Liam

Lol cheers Vez, may your hangover sod off in a timely fashion One quickie though... are these screws usually quite deep? I've read other posts where it appears that people are "missing" these screws but for some reason they are rather deep in there (or sometimes the thread has been stripped?). Cheers again fella

yup absolutely bugger all in there from what I could see, I'm hopefully heading back home tomorrow so will check again (Last bikes were 4 strokes so I may be acting like a numpty). The engine idle screw /mixture screw I guess isn't there if I'm going off of the same premise. The bandit and my old 125 had a screw that had a spring on it and was a flat head if that's any help? Shall take a pic tomorrow and upload but I'm guessing the idle issue is down to this... could be wrong and it may well be a cracked seal or reeds though If wrong could this be down to how tuned the engine is? I know idle speeds are an issue with heavily tuned engines so could this be a result? Cheers

Well... I thought my bikes Idol was a bit high... sounds around 2-2.3kRPM and from what I understand it should be at 1.2k-1.3k So I began to hunt for my idol screw on the carb... could I find it? Noooooo I even looked to the manual to check I wasn't being a tit... turns out that there is NO idol screw!!! now I have been able to source near enough EVERY part for this bike and I have no friggin idea where to start with this thing... I've googled it but then it struck me that the bike has been heavily modified for off-road / mountain riding in wales! So what if this is a different carb? but on that same note are the idol screws not generally universal? Besides that the bike is genuinely giving me the freak out at the moment... bored out 2 strokes were never my thing but after letting it run for ten minutes and giving it a Blip... eeeek! These things bored out and tuned are mental!

I got into bikes due to my parents, Old man was a long haired hippy type that lost his bounce many years ago and my mum used to cart me around everywhere in an old BWM RT800 with side-car (yes her arms are still like popeyes!). First time I myself touched a bike was the really old PW's planted it into a Hay bale and then tried a quad... hated the quad so much I just persisted crashing and enjoyed it!! My first bike was actually a Honda CG 125 that I had bought from a mate for £20 or so as a project when I was about 11 or 12, spent my pocket money saved for some time on the bike itself and a can of metallic green hammerite paint lol! what a machine
  7. Hi and welcome!! as Vez said check the seals I was actually told of this some time back by another DT owner!! Best of luck

I may have to take you up on that kind offer Oldgit, I'm calling up a mate tomorrow who runs a salvage / breaking company for bike (gloucester bike specialist) as he thinks they may have some bits kicking around. If not I'll PM you asap! Thanks though that is very kind of you

Similar to my Compound x-bow lol, nice sight though £80 sounds iffy to me as well BUT! Ace up the sleeve as it has a Number plate on it etc. and the other halfs dad is a director at an insurance brokers so free hpi check if it's too good to be true he'll let me know. Regardless.. I'm going for that set of clocks it's what I need and I'm getting annoyed not being on the road right now so trying to speed things up a little
  13. LiamDTR replied to LiamDTR's post in a topic in New Members Welcome Area
Jesus... they like to charge through the nose! I think I'm going to skulk off to eBay and cry a little lol. The clocks I'm currently bidding on seem to not be worth me actually getting! I may have found a Donor bike that has the genuine parts on so will strip that, bloke wants £80 inc delivery from cardiff! not bad eh? Soooo I shall be waiting either another week OR I will have sold my pc then to pay to get this thing on the road! Cheers anyway Vez, I shall keep an eye out for any odds and sods on eBay now You legend!! those were the ones I had put a bid on and got outbid lol! thank you ps. want to borrow my x-bow to kill whatever made that mess on your clocks?

Well I was thinking the same... but.. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Polisport-MMX-Headlight-Enduro-CRF-Road-Legal-White-MX-/140437494935?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item20b2ba1c97#ht_1707wt_905 No doubt I'll be chucking on the standard headlight for the MOT anyway but definately getting the Polisport one on there asap! Really do prefer it to the others I have been looking at and as much as I'd like to restore this bike to the factory standard I can see myself throwing a fair bit into it I think my other half is going to start getting jealous with all this cash I intend to funnel into the bike
  17. LiamDTR replied to LiamDTR's post in a topic in New Members Welcome Area
Cheers Vez!! Will invest in some of those then, I have a set of motocross tyres but completely non-legal lol. And the headlight... I noticed you commented on another reply that I made regarding Filed the eBay dealer. I see that he deals with a lot of the motard end of the stuff so would you recommend the headlight from him? Looks good enough from what I can see and it's much more attractive than the twin lamp option that I had http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200562814096&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_853wt_1139. Also DOA cheers for the advice!! I will look into that depending on cost of course
  18. LiamDTR replied to LiamDTR's post in a topic in New Members Welcome Area
Well I have sourced some light fittings and such on eBay from someone who deals with more "modern" DTR parts and they seem reasonably priced! instant happiness for me I must say, Tail tidy rear light/number plate holder which is lurvely! and a rather nice headlight unit on the cheap too Also does one of you lot know where I could get hold of decent snow tyres for this thing as we're supposed to be getting more snow? Cheers again, Liam

Cheers again guys Unfortunately not much I can now do to the bike until I get the V5 through my letter box But will be adding lights etc. after I find the right look I want to go for!! Will post pics as the progress moves forward but for the moment I'm familiarising myself with the Haynes book of lies and also the Owners Manual lol Thanks again for the compliments folks really appreciate it
  21. LiamDTR replied to LiamDTR's post in a topic in New Members Welcome Area
Lol Cheers Drewpy Good developments anyway!! The chap rang me back with the frame number and he's also popping into DVLA swansea on thursday as he deals with bikes a fair old bit with buying and selling, some with books some without, which seems fair... But he did say he will sort the V5 out for sure! Anyway I just got off of the phone from Yamaha and I'm ever so slightly confused now... as that bike was first registered in 1989!! So in a way I am even more pleased as it turns out the bike is a lot older than first thought!! Does raise some minor concerns as the previous owner had no idea that it was a 1989 model lol. However they also said that they could (for a £40 charge). Send me a proof of manufacture slip with the original registration number! So It would make it even easier if the log book does not appear (I think it will). Result! and one very happy 1989 DT 125 owner!!
  22. LiamDTR replied to LiamDTR's post in a topic in New Members Welcome Area
Hey there Vez, Cheers Unfortunately the coating is far too thick to even read it bar 2 marks of the frame number!! I do like it though as it looks so tidy and for loss of a better word.. Flush And Oldgit as I just mentioned in this post I'm typing now I can barely see the first 2 marks of the frame number, I did go over it with a magnifying glass after reading this and I think I'm going to have to have a scrape and sand but the good thing is I can see where it starts!! But if it matches the "possible" log book I'm okay and shouldn't have to get it re-registered. However the process really doesn't seem too bad anymore, All they want is a frame number for me to register it with the original plates (pretty much, and with a fair bit of paperwork etc. and £55). But they did say if I do need to re-register it and such it really shouldn't pose too much of a problem and I can get a year related plate All that said and done I did just try to call the bloke and his phone is now off and he hasn't responded to my texts that I sent last night soooooo... the story will no doubt unfold Cheers again guys, Very welcoming bunch Ps. Very nice colour on the frame Vez!

My sentiments exactly, there is a very very faint 2 letters on the left hand side of the headstock and it is unfortunate as the paint job suits the bike so well. I am debating how to go about it at the moment as I don't want to ruin it but at the same time I really do want to make sure that the "legit" numbers match up. From what I have been told (I really am not sure as this is my first Yamaha) is that the Engine and frame Number is identical, So if that is true and not just some wishful thinking of a muppet I think I have really struck a Jackpot! I paid a very low price for the bike and from what I have been told... I won't want to get shot of it lol Anyway! do you think it's worth giving the left hand side of the headstock a bit of a sanding down or something similar?
  24. LiamDTR replied to LiamDTR's post in a topic in New Members Welcome Area
Heya Oldgitonabike Thank you very much for the compliment but alas! Not my own work (yet!), I've made a start with the registration issues already as I had some concerns about the bike due to a lack of frame number etc. Engine number is present, but the frame number was allegedly misplaced after the frame had been powder coated However, After a 20-30 minute conversation with quite possibly the most helpful woman yesterday at DVLA Swansea my mind is at ease I was sensible with the purchase though and took a scan of the chaps driving license and address etc The guy who I purchased the bike from has assured me that he does have the slip and it is now in hand which I would like to believe as surely no-one would give over that info if the bike was dodgy lol.

Hello folks! Liam here, 25 years old from Gloucestershire and a 2-stroke noob!! I used to have a nice Suzuki Bandit N600 (96 plate), But due to the snow early 2010 I got rid of it and picked up a cheap, very non-cheerful 125 that dealt with the snow fantastically. Since June (when I finally decided to get rid of it for good!), I have been without a bike and earlier this week I managed to bag myself a bargain and am now the proud owner of a 1998 DTR 125! The bike unfortunately had been taken off of the road and turned into a Motocross bike for use in the Rhonda Valley. I do however fully intend to get it up together for road use once again. It has currently been tweaked up to a 180cc engine and my god does it pull for what it is! As this is my first 2-smoke I was very very surprised!! The bike is packed full of potential but I did run into some problems already. The chap I purchased it from is allegedly posting off the missing green ticket for the bike that wasn't produced but I have already been in contact with DVLA and they have been incredibly helpful with giving me direction to get it back on the road!! So even if this green slip is nothing more than a Spurious promise not all is lost It has had a custom paint job done in a nice Candy red and metallic silver. Bad part would be that the absolute numpty did an incredible powder coating job on the frame, Yet he made a very noobish mistake and did not lacquer the plastics! so it has had some chips and such from where it was used off road... I do fully intend to complete the paint touch ups myself and lacquer it up with some other adjustments to visuals Anyway I thought that I would introduce myself with a little detail as so very few people seem to do so on forums! Glad to be here and hope to chat with some of you soon Liam.
