Saturday 9th gloucester
Join up with Gloucester bike nights on facebook! Used to be every Tuesday I think and they would all shoot off for a ride-out, failing that pop into Gloucester Bike Specialist and chat with James!! I know a bunch of people with bikes that would more than likely be up for a ride-out however most of us are based in stroud!

Progress / Plans / Paint stripper from sainsburys?
Dirty, It works well on non Lacquered paint. I've had a couple of days now working with it and I found that it's lame... well on the lacquered bits anyway! The non Lacquered severely half assed bits came off within a 10 minutes, red paint everywhere... however the base coat was coated rather well with Lacquer... retards who couldn't spray GRRRRRR!! I did have to sand those bits down quite severely but I have some rather good paint on route so will see it looks!! In short, if it's got a clear coat don't bother just do it the normal way!

Progress / Plans / Paint stripper from sainsburys?
Haha, It's not proper paint stripper mate, just reacts with spray paint and strips it off leaving the plastic in the original condition. I'm doing a test piece before hand anyway mate!! Will let you know how it goes

Progress / Plans / Paint stripper from sainsburys?
Right, I'm ready for the insanity to begin!! I have decided to keep the 2 rear side panels, rear one obviously as that's brand new!! and the front mudguard. I have been putting off the paint stripping for the past few weeks as I had no idea what would be good enough for it!! I am unsure of the paint effect I'm going for right now, I want to stick with a similar scheme but with I'm not certain... Metallic Blue flip with white accent? Marble midnight blue with white accent? I'm starting to think Blue to be honest but w/e... Fortunately I found out that there is pretty much the best paint stripper (£2-£3) in the world available at most super markets!! Fairy Power Spray, watched a couple of vids of it removing paint with ease and it only being left for 20 minutes... So I will be doing that!! prep work will begin on Tuesday and I shall post vids on youtube documenting the progress (Or I'll do a vid when it's complete). Anyway, I needed 3 screws for my flush looking tail tidy. Fortunately the DIY shop in my home town was closed but the music shop was still open, for the cost of 75p I managed to get 3 of these nuts and bolts! 3mm Diameter with a 25mm length, Perfect fit for the 3mm holes I drilled in the rear fender! all in all I'm very happy, also I'm having progress with the wiring loom couple of quid for the front half!! how good is that?!?

hi all
Are you spraying it yourself mate or getting one of those companies to do it? If you're going to do it yourself get a tighter pattern by wrinkling the polythene as much as possible and when it's pulled off (before the purple candy is sprayed on top) pull off one corner at a time and pull it into the middle of whichever part has been sprayed, you'll get a nice marble effect that has a slight swirl Also be sure that when you spray on your silver over the base coat that it's quite wet and not going to dry within 30 seconds!! (if you're using a booth). Hope this helps!!

hi all
Just remember there will be someone somewhere who either makes custom bits or can get the bits for you from an importer! I'm really quite keen to see how the paint job turns out, with the type of bike you have and the amount of shine it has on the engine, zorst and bars you may get away with keeping that original-esque look with the shock of the paint job. Keep us updated on this pal and best of luck again

help!
I wouldn't dismiss what these guys are saying. Call A mechanic before you do any more damage to your bike, Lesson learned I reckon!

ace tune.
That is wounding my soul

hi all
Welcome Pabz sounds like a very pimp job you're going to attempt on that The Candy Paint Job isn't for the feint hearted mind A friend of mine about 10 years ago had me help him do a Marble Candy paint job on a ZXR 750 and it was possibly the most gorgeous bike i'd ever seen!! that crushed velvet/marble texture it has is phenomenal. If you want any help or advice on it give me a shout!! Ps. I was considering this for my DTR , looks trick on anything

Sadly off the road
It's best that you did bail. Had you assumed they had nothing you could possibly be in a much worse state, Just glad you're okay! I would pursue it personally even if it did mean taking civil action. Worse case scenario is that their parents would have to pay, I for one believe you should be allowed a few hours with them, a car battery with a set of jump leads attached and them standing in water + the money to repair the bike, money as compensation and a nice big fat juvenile sentence for both of the little pricks! I hope you get this sorted with the correct route of justice (So to speak). I'd personally contact a Citizens Advice Bureau before doing much more than chatting with the insurance company and police. Unfortunately they would probably end up with a police caution if this woman does know who they were and you were to not proceed BUT if you do proceed maybe their parents will have to foot the damages and I don't think any parent would let their child get away with that!! Fingers crossed that you recover quickly and get this resolved!! Ps. Next time go all captain picard on them! RAMMING SPEED!!

1989 Wiring Loom?
Lol cheers Cyn but I'll see how I get on with this one and one bits I can salvage from mates garages etc You have mentioned however pretty much what I intend to do.. MX look with lights, very simple no faffing however I would like an ignition for obvious reasons. Engine is running well at the moment, Bit smokey but Just changed the plugs and it's bang on!!

1989 Wiring Loom?
Spot on! Thanks Vez I'm onto my parts guys already with the info! I guess I should owe you a beer really

1989 Wiring Loom?
You're lucky there pal, they stripped the hell out of mine. When I bought it I realised how badly they had raped the bike of all road going parts so they could ride it around the Rhonda Valleys off road... douche bags!

1989 Wiring Loom?
Heya Vez The engine number starts with *3MD does this help me in my quest? Also the amount of knowledge you have is insane... /imitates Clarkson "Some people say... his legs are actually a pair of USD forks"

Tried to awake the Bandit from hibernation
^this^ On my old N600 (96) I had some iridium plugs and I didn't really notice a difference to be fair which was a shame as they aren't exactly cheap for a bigger bike. Through cold times I always made sure that the bum loving beast was started every day never had a single issue with it (apart from the lack of top end).

1989 Wiring Loom?
Heya folks! I've been looking around for a 1989 DTR wiring loom and I'm starting to think I'm more likely to get shat on by a rocking horse... Managed to find a bike shop locally that could get one in for me at £100 but I'm thinking that sounds rather over-priced? Frasers of Gloucester by the way! They are a little renowned for being overpriced!! As I mentioned before in another post I have an entire loom exluding the L/H switch gear waiting for me, it's £25 but I believe it could be an 1996+ would this be a huge fail if I tried to connect it? I know the bike will pass its MOT without any of the lights as mechanically it's solid.. but to be honest I really HATE the idea of having no lights! Do you guys know of anywhere at all where I could purchase a full loom excluding switch gear for a better price as I get the distinct feeling the bike is due to give me something else to throw money at Cheers all!

MOT Requirements
Also OG, this may be worth a look. My previous bike to the DT I actually had to use the slowing down signal that this chap demonstrates towards the end http://www.advancedmotorcyclists.org.uk/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=197&Itemid=2
