Hi Jak, Welcome to the YOC, come on in and make some new friends.
  2. HI Dave, Welcome to the YOC, And a nice intro well done.

Thank you noise, the next time er indoors asks for some thing she gonna get it!!
  4. HI Francis why were you "moist and dirty"? Sorry mate could not resist, Ok you got a spark but do you have fuel, check your carb settings.
  5. HI Pardy, Ok first things first, you HAVE to use this part of the site to give your INTRO, NOT ask questions ok. Now if you go to the sites front page and look for "WORKSHOP" ask your question in there and someone will try to come up with an answer for you. So to recap this place is for INTROS not questions. Anywho Welcome to the YOC and hope you stick around. . P.S As some say on here NO INTRO NO INFO.
  6. Hi Matthew, Did mine a couple of years back, nasty bloody job, CYNIC is right (as usual) copy the old one onto another board and be strict with yourself about getting the same length and make sure you have loads of shrink fit heat seals to go over your solder joints, I used a whole pack of the things. I also cut off the original connectors and used them on the new loom as they were still in good shape but there are loads of suppliers of new connector blocks on ebay if you really want to go to town. I also used that curly plastic stuff that goes around wire bundles instead of insulating tape as it made it easier to feed the wires out where I wanted them, you can get it from most good motor accessory shops and it will save you hours of fiddling plus if you have a problem you can unwind it and get at the wire joints if you need to. good luck with your loom, your going to need a weekend at least to get it done.
  7. Hi Wendy, Welcome to the YOC, It might be an idea to ask your question in the "WORKSHOP" section of the site as this area is only for intros if you are a new member (which you are) May I also suggest that you do an intro if you would be so kind as most people like to know who they are talking to. Someone will probably be able to help you out with your query if you ask in the right place, good luck in finding out what you want to know.
  8. Hi Andy, Thank you, not to worry but peps like to have a handle to hang a conversation on. Ok its not difficult to ask your question. Go to "WORKSHOP" section on the front page of the web site and click NEW TOPIC, use the header (the first bit) to describe your problem/difficulty and then ask for what you need to know, PLEASE PLEASE say thank you if someone is kind enough to help you out as they are doing it for free and are just trying to help out another biker and as such it's nice to say thanks. Oh and WELCOME to the YOC, it's alwways nice to have new people join in.
  9. Hi, It's POLITE to say hello BEFORE asking questions, so PLEASE start again and INTRO yourself before asking questions, you would not go up to a group of strangers and start asking how to fix your bike before saying Hi and getting to know them, they might just get stroppy and ask about your manners (or lack of). There's a reason CYNIC has the logo NO INTRO NO INFO, can you guess what it might be. There are nice people on here but they like to know who they are talking to.

  14. slice replied to jmartin1375's post in a topic in New Members Welcome Area
Hi jmartin, check your earth and connectors, if the left hand works it can't be the relay so got to be a faulty wire or connection. And this question should be in the "WORKSHOP" section old mate not the "new members" section ok. Start at the bulb end and work your way back through the wiring until you find the fault.

Airheads right HEAT SEIZE almost certainly, do as he says and you should have no more problems.

Thanks Ttaskmaster, a very concise answer and your right I don't really want to make calls while riding but would like to have the option if I need it, I was in fact thinking about the music side of it more than the phone and then thought that losing my hearing to good music is a recipe for suicide really as most car drivers seem to think I am just there to aim at and not being able to hear the buggers coming would be my last mistake. Don't use nor want a sat nav, that's why I came with a gob and 2 ears I can always ask someone where I need to go plus I trust MAPS they don't take you into peoples gardens or down bridle paths. Messenger pidgoens are messy foamy, they crap everywhere and you have to feed them. Still I would like to try out a descent headset and the one T/master has recommended will do nicely. So thank you all for your advice and I will get back to you if I have a problem.

Ok so I admit it I am an old fart who when he wants to make a call used to look for a red phone box on the side of the road. Now apparently you can use one if these magical mobile jobbies that also wipes your arse and makes the tea (not in that order I hope) anyway got a new(ish) phone and it has this bluetooth thing and I was wondering if anybody on here might have some (clean) suggestions as to which B/tooth headset might be best to use on an OLD XJ 750 that makes more noise than a tractor at about 60MPH, my lid is ok and quite sound proof apart from the odd whistle from the wind now and then, it is a tight fit (no good slopping about is it) so I imagine that the head set thing will need to be quite slim to fit in my ear without trying to puncture my eardrum if it sticks out to far (headset not my ear) anyway it's a Samsung phone with all the bells and whistles but I was hoping I could use it while on the move. Any suggestions as to the best way of getting this sorted out would be welcome. Martin. Thanks in anticipation of your not unkind replies to an old sod who is quite at sea with all this modern gadgetry

Pretty bike jerry, I am more than a little jealous.
  20. slice replied to Ormer's post in a topic in Yamaha Workshop
HI Ormer, Got one of these myself (1982 era) so know a little bit about them, take the starter off and check that the gear on the end of the shaft is not worn or broken, then check that the shaft is actually turning and not just the motor, in the HOLE! that removing the starter leaves you will see a gear that mates up with the starter motor end, this you should also check to see if there is a tooth missing or it is loose, grab hold of it with your finger tips and give it a whiggle to see if it moves side to side, if not then take out the plugs and put it in 2nd gear and using the rear wheel turn the engine over to get the gear to move around so you can see if any of the teeth are missing, mind your fingers in the gears as it will take the end of your finger off before you know it, you will need a really bright torch and the patience of job but this is the only way I know of checking if the problem is with the starter motor or the actual gear itself. Hope that helps a bit and let me know how you get on if you would.

Loose/broken connection or bad earth most likely.

Did I see this right? looked like he had his legs OVER the bars. Looking again drewpy might be right and its some sort of mini bke/scooter thing.
  23. Hi Scott, nice to have some help when repairing your bike means you can blame someone else when some thing falls off. I see your lid only seems to have the odd scratch or 2 on the visor & chin guard, might be worth while keeping it if it's not had a bang on the main part of the helmet as the chin guard is not structural to the helmet but if your determined to change it then the ARAI are good helmets althought they are expensive, I have never really uinderstood the need for really expensive helmets as most times when you fall off it's at a fairly slow speed, if you fall off at a hundred plus a top of the range helmet is just going to be good for identification of the body :biglaugha: . Go down to your local bike shop and try on all their helmets until you find one that is comfortable and you can live with, believe me an ugly comfortable helmet is far better than a racy painted uncomfoirtable lid on a long journey, I use a flip front job as I'm an old fart who remembers when you didn't have to wear a helmet at all, which made falling off much more scary than it is now. Once again good luck with your repairs and only do what you understand and ask advice BEFORE you take on some thing that might be beyond your skill level we all have to learn as we go on so do one job at a time and you should be fine.
  24. slice replied to steveyg_uk's post in a topic in The Bar
Try cutting a potato in half and rubbing the cut end on to the inside of the visor, sounds odd but it really works, it's the starch in the spud that does it, as drewpy says todays W/up liquid is not the same as it used to be and doesn't seem to work as well as it used to.
  25. Hi Scott, Don't think your warranty will be void if you put 2nd hand parts on as long as they are the same or better quality, so just make sure you use the best you can afford and that they are as near as dammit identical to the original then there should be no worries, also have a word with the warranty company (not the seller) and ask them what is acceptable in the way of repacement, they might ask for a mechanical report to verify that the parts are fitted correctly and of correct standard and as long as you have ticked all the right boxes you should be fine, fitted a larger engine some years ago and was asked to supply a report that the work was done in the correct way and was of "SOUND WORKMANSHIP" whatever the fuck that means? as I did it myself, but they said it was ok so no worries. Good luck with your repairs and take your time and DON'T rush at it and you should be fine and have a few more skill's in repairing your bike.
