  1. Hi Chopper, if these are anything like my forks then the allen key at the bottom of the forks holds the inner damper rod in place which in turn the main spring sits on, this you ONLY remove if you want to remove the inner leg (rechroming and such) I would suggest that is not what you want to do as it is not only a bastard to get undone but a double bastard to do back up again. I think that the suggestion you had about taking the end cap off and inverting the forks is probably the best way to go, once the forks are inverted you can then pump them up and down to remove any old oil that is in them and leave them overnight to drain out. I used 20/50 motor oil in mine as the haynes book of jokes said it was an accepteble alternative to fork oil which is twice as expensive and it does the same job and has an almost identical sae number! Hope that helps a bit?
  2. NOt a DICK Craig just someone who was a bit confused by your intro and your DAD's post that's all. Might be nice if you were not to call people names when they are trying to be nice and point out that for different bikes you need different forums (see your DAD's post) it's always nice to have new people join the forum but arseholes are seldom welcome. See I can call people names as well but not really necessary is it.
  3. Hi, Not sure what your question is here, but if you have it all back together and it runs RIDE IT, if it don't run then check your carb settings and make sure you have all the cables connected correctly, other than that not much else I can say unless you give more info on any problems you might be having. Stay safe.
  4. Hi Thorovat, wrong place mate, this should be in the "WORKSHOP" section and only then AFTER you have done your INTRO, we like to know who we are talking to and you would not rock up to complete strangers and start asking them how to fix your bike would you? So do your intro (who you are where your from, that sort of thing) and THEN put this in the right place and hope someone has a fix for you. Oh and Welcome to the YOC, P.S Do you have a manual for your bike? Electrical problems are notoriously difficult to repair (if that's what's wrong with it) so you need to give lots of info on what the actual problem is and what you have already done to correct it, if your middle and left plugs are both really wet (with fuel) then it might be that you need to balance your carbs before you do anything else.
  5. ER Ok it seems we are not needed here, other than to say HI Craig and welcome to the YOC. P.S. if you want info on other bike makes say Honda Kawaski or Ducatis it might make more sense to go to the forum that deals with them rather than ask people on Yamaha sites how to fix them, Just a thought!
  6. Your right it is a Kwaka, oh dear, do you think he is in the wrong place by chance? I suggest that you search "KAWASAKI OWNERS CLUBS" and not "YAMAHA OWNERS CLUB" the clue might be in the name.
  7. Hi Billy glad you got a nice new bike & glad you like it but it's usual for new members to do an INTRO first BEFORE launching into questions so we know who we're talking to, so old mate PLEASE do your intro and someone might be able to help you out.
  8. HI all, Now first of all I AM NOT offering cheap insurance so read on and find out why you should be careful of those that do! I am a LOT older than some of you and as such when working on the bike in the garage I listen to the wireless (radio to you youngsters) and today I heard that there is a new scam out there young riders should be aware of, if you look for cheap insurance and find a cracking deal be aware that some scum bags are offering really low rates for young driver/riders who are in fact NOT registered with the insurance bureau (THE MIB) that's not men in black but "Members of the Insurance Bureau", it's really important that you check that your broker/dealer is registered as you will be UNINSURED if you buy from these muppets, they quoted a young guy who had his car taken and impounded and recieved 6 points for no insurance and has to attend court on charges of driving with no insurance, he now has to go back to court to try to get the points removed but you should be aware that "IGNORANCE OF THE LAW IS NO EXCUSE" and as such he may still be liable for someone elses crimnality which means through no fault of his own he is now forever going to have had points on his licence when he applies for insurance, and we all know how the insurance companies like to load up your premium if you have had a conviction. So check your insurance quote has the MIB number and phone and check that it's real BEFORE taking to the road.
  9. HI David, I would think that your key is probably just worn from use, not much you can do about it really except get another one cut. If your really worried about it then use a tie of some sort to make sure it don't fall off again just loop something around it and hook it to a cable or to the bars. As to your other request I would buy a manual HAYNES are ok but can be a bit difficult to follow, I call mine the haynes book of jokes cos sometmes it's just having a laugh. A proper Yam manual is going to cost the earth so don't go there but EBAY have loads of second user ones, so if I were you I'd get one from there. Hope that helps a bit. P.S there has been a request from the site moderator NOT to supply manuals that are copyrighted ,I suppose he's had a bollocking from someone.
  10. Good for you Thomas, DT is right that there are some good deals to be had on the net and it sounds like you have got yourself one with this latest bit of kit, stick with it and you can laugh at your mates £1000 bike. I do like a story with a happy ending.
  11. Hi dgregerson, Welcome to the YOC, might be nice if you did and intro BEFORE rocking up and asking questons of strangers. I have an 82 XJ and can tell you all about where the relay is and how to fix your problem but INTRO first please.
  12. Hi Thomas, looked at that link DT sent you, apart from the handle being ground down it looks ok BUT if it's had a trip down the road on the brake lever I would buy one of the other ones cos it will have had a lot of stress from being damaged the way it is might even have damaged the bolt/housing where the brake handle slots into. not saying it is damaged but the others were near perfect and not much more money.
  13. Hi Again and welcome to the YOC, dont worry I'm 60 this year so know how you feel about these bloody new fangled boxes of electronics, at least it is warmer where you are than here, just been out and it's bloody freezing, I see you found the WORSHOP section and I also see that you have posted your question again, may I suggest that you put your question in a slightly different way, no offence intended but it is a bit joe blunt. explain what you want to do and why and some one will rock up with a fix for you, you could also use the SEARCH (top of page on right) section and type in what you want and you might be lucky and find that some one has already left a post with just the fix you need, if not then EDIT your original post in workshop with a bit more info about what you want to do. Other than that it's always nice to meet new people and hope you find what your looking for, if not PM me (click on my name and leave me a message) and I will try to find it for you as I'm sure I saw this topic a while ago. Martin.

  15. Hi, Welcome to the YOC, it's nice that you have had so many bikes but that not withstanding this is the "INTRO" section and that was not an intro that was a QUESTION and so should be in the "WORKSHOP" section if you would be so kind, I think you will find that several people have done the foot peg conversion but as some say on here "NO INTRO NO INFO" it's just that we get a lot of one hit wonders who ask for advice and are never seen again so we like to know who we are talking to and we like them to become part of the family so to speak, so once again welcome and hope you enjoy your stay. P.S. Perhaps you might do you intro again with a bit of info about yourself & where your from.
  16. Hi Sam, Your fuel filter is usually inside the tank above the fuel tap, only way to get at it is to take the fuel tap off (usually 2 screws) and full it free, you will then usually see a tall mesh filter. As for your fuel pouring out it's probably a stuck float valve, these wear after a while and need to be replaced, they are a short plastic thing with a small metal cap that goes into a housing just above the float, sometimes there is a seal that it goes into and you should replace this as well, it could be that your float is actually leaking and to test this take it off and dunk it in to some warm water and see if you get bubbles if you do re[place this as well. You might also have crud in the tank, fuel isn't as clean as we would like so dirt and crud floats about until it settles and then gets sucked into the carb. You might also think about putting an inline filter between the tap and carb, most car shops have someting that will do the job but try to get ne that lets you unscrew it so you can clean it out on a regular basis. Hope some of this helps.
  17. Hi Andy, Just a thought but would it not make sense to remove the original indicators? this would mean that you could just swap out the wires to your PANNIERS! and keep your indicators for when you sell the bike or remove the panniers.
  18. Hi Andrew, should not be a problem with overload & the wiring will be fine, to low an amperage for it to get hot or degrade, LEDs are just about the same as bulbs for power requirements and some even run better indicator relay will also be fine as LEDs usually draw less currant then bulbs. Hope that helps a bit. P.S when you say SADDLE BAGS do you in fact mean PANNIERS (fixed to a frame then fixed to the bike) rather than throw over soft bags that are put on and take off?
  19. Hi Jester, welcome to the YOC.
  20. Hi Nate, Welcome to the YOC, All intros welcome but this is a blinder, made me smile, we can help with the bikes & beer and the fact your from Texas is someting we will get used to I suppose but your on your own if you want advise about pussy, :biglaugha:
  21. HI Dennis, Welcome to the YOC, ask your questions in the "WORSHOP" section you should get some answers, lots of stroker riders on here.

    mt03 engine work

Single cylinders always run different to twins or multis, your bike is meant to do long runs at reasonable speeds not potter around town, it will always feel lumpy if your trying to use it for short journeys. It is after all a 650cc machine and is designed to work hard over long distances. As for the problem with the tickover I suggest that you get someone to look at the timing or carb settings.
  23. Hi Venla, This area is for your INTRO mate not where you ask questions. Other than that you should be able to get the year and such by using the engine or frame number at your local Yammie shop. Now please redo you intro if you would be so kind. Oh and if you put this question again use the "WORKSHOP" section on the front page. There are some on here who will not answer questions until you have done a proper intro, look out for "NO INTRO NO INFO" Other than that Welcome to the YOC it's always nice to have new people join in.
  24. Hi Grim, Just replaced my own fork seals, you will need to undo the allen key on the bottom of the forks to get the inner plunger out after you have released the top fork plug (above spring) take care as spring is under tension, then remove allen key, you will need to find some way of stopping the inner fork plunger from rotating while you turn the allen key, I think you will need to hold the lower fork leg in a vice (use an old belt or something similar to prevent it from moving and getting scratched) then use the upper leg to jar out the lower fork seal as it is in to far to get at it any other way ie use the upper leg as a slide hammer, you just slide it back and forth until the seal pops out of the lower leg, be prepared to sweat over this as it is a bit of a bastard to really get it out. DO NOT clamp the lower stancion in the vice unless it is well packed around or you will crush it or even bend the pipe, I used the lower brake mounting bolt plate as an attachment. Wish you luck mate, all of this should be in your Haynes anyway.
