Exhaust studs Midnight Maxim
Hi All, Perhaps you can help me out, just got the head back on and trying to attach the exhaust but all the old studs are knackered, but having real trouble getting some new ones as the bike is over 30 years old and no one seems to have any in stock , I was wondering if studs off of some thing else might fit , they are M6 studs so fairly standard size but the length has to be the same or slightly longer. Do any of you have an idea where the best place might be to get hold of some, I need 8 of couse plus the nuts. Thanks or any advice.

Yamaha Fazer 600 problem--- HELP
Hi Gaza, If the noise is coming from behind the front sprocket then you could be right that it is a gearbox problem, that does not mean that it's a major fault mind you as all gearboxes make some noise and I would suggets that you have a listen to someone elses bike BEFORE you tear it down, there are so many things it could be in there that you really need to get a local mechanic who knows his stuff to have a gander at it first. As above BOTH suggestions have merit and you should take those on board to sort out the carb and chain but if as you say the noise is really from the box then the only way to sort it is to identify what is wrong before you get out the hammer and chisel! Where abouts are you as if someone is near they might be willing to come and have a look for you and give you their ideas as to what it might be . Just a suggestion mind. Wish you luck with whatever you decide to do. P.S try the bike WITHOUT the chain and see if that cures the noise problem.

Yamaha Fazer 600 problem--- HELP
Hi Gaza, I would think that you either need a new chain or to lube the old one, various products that will lube your chain on the market just type in "CHAIN LUBE" and make your choice. It might be that the sprockets are hooked and then you will need to change the front & rear sprockets but this is usually easy to spot. Might I also suggest that you do an "INTRO" before you go any further as it's nice to say Hi before you start asking questions (new memberes section) its nice to know a bit about you before some will talk to you, to many one hit wonders who we never see again after they get their question answered. Also DO NOT lube your chain by running the bike in gear and then spraying it from the back, this will remove your finger tips and might even take you forearm off, you have been warned!!

Can you shed some light on a bulb question?
It would seem that you need to go to your local bike shop and demand a STOP / TAIL light, then in the light of your knowledge the salesman will bask in the glory of your obvious sparkling aura & produce said item post haste, you can then return home to install said item onto your glorious machine which will then light the way to enlightenment of others who will now know that when said item is in use you are in fact stopping. Going to turn the light off now and have a lie down.

Wheel Balance
Not a bad idea but you will only find out if you have it right when you ride it and then it's wheel wobble and a tank slapper if it's wrong, go for the "contraption" for a few quid it could save your life!!

Gear problem
Hi R6, it might be an idea to do an INTRO first (New Member section) before asking for advice, some people like to know something about you before they will answer your question, not grumpy just polite to say Hi first, try putting your question in the WORKSHOP section as well as people will know you have a problem as it's in there. Someone will have a fix or diagnosis for you as there are a lot of R6 owners on here. P.S. Welcome to the forum always nice to meet new people.

Yamaha XS 1100 missing cylinder 3...
As Cynic say's check you have a spark, might be just a duff HT lead or spark plug cap. P.S check cap to see if you have tracking (silver like) lines down the inside of the cap or it's cracked.

leaky carbs
Give the bottom of the carb bowls a sharp (not hard) tap with the end of a wodden screwdriver or hammer handle, probably just a stuck float. Remember DON'T belt it "TAP IT"

cold start problem yamaha xj 600n 1996
Hi Lerch, Mike has a good point choke is only useful if its really cold in this weather you should not need it and if you put it on and it stalls then you know it's working? If you pull the lever and the arm lifts on top of the cabs then it more or less has to be working.

Sorry to hear that Jayda, still it's their loss and hope you get it sorted,. As for "OUT OF WARRANTY" if there is a recognised fault ie known problem they are obliged to repair up to 5 years after original date of manufacture, see sale of goods act/european union directive on consumer goods, not many people know that there is a much longer WARRANTY period than they advertise. But truth to tell if you can't be arsed to do it then not much else to say really, unfortunately sometimes life gets in the way and time to do these things can be more than most people can spare. Wish you luck with your repairs mate. P.S repairs under said legislation are FREE due to it being a manufacturing error/fault.

Hi Guy, i should try to Google it and buy the cheapest working one you can find, just had a look and that is one expensive bit of kit. Try these people http://www.pietcard.com.ar got it off of another site but apparently they make them for a fraction of the original cost. I seem to remember it was $125 US. Hope that helps?

Hi Jayda, That's what the small claims court is for, send them a letter to say you are going to proceed with a private prosecution (it's free) and tell them what has happened, you will be suprised how fast they will come back to you with an offer of the parts you need. Before you do tho write down all that the Yammie dickhead said and did to your bike so you don't forget. And produce photos of the offending parts, DO NOT email them send a snail mail registered. Good luck.

XVS400 2001 Dragstar struggles to reach 100km/h
Hi SD, Have you checked the air filter and maybe the jet sizes? plus the fuel lines might be kinked, Air filter might be blocked & the jets might be undersized. Also look at your exhaust and see if it an original or an after market one, all of these can have an effect on how your bike runs. Hope some of that helps otherwise stick it in your local DYNO shop and get them to tell you if it is running properly according to the original specs.

HI all, need a bit of advice, I have got hold of a nice shiny petrol cap, the one on the bike at the moment is rusty and horrid, so I am trying to change the key mechanism out of the barrel but no matter what I do it wont come out, tried poking it prodding it and even talked to it nicely but no joy it seems to be in there for ever, it must come out but for the life of me I can't see how, do any of you know what holds the bugger in there and can I in fact change it? My thought is that at some time some little japanese guy put the thing in there so it must come out but as above can't see how. ANY help much appreciated. Thanks All.
