Speedometer disassembly
The only way they come apart is by the retaining ring, a fine screw driver is required and gently work your way round the ring lifting the ring more vertical on every revolution, once done gently tap the ring down taking time not to knock the ring over too much. Once done you can cover with a rubber ring damper that used to come with the early DTs. Done plenty of XT500 clocks but that has a ring at the bottom of the clock You may need some form of jig to put pressure on the back of the clock while you tap the ring down. Hope it helps. TTB

Are 2 strokes long distance runners?
Yes I have also done Lincoln to Barnsley on a Suzuki ts50 when I was a nipper. Obviously taking a detour where the motorway starts. TTB

Are 2 strokes long distance runners?
I managed 120 miles on my xt500 doing 50 to 60 miles per hour , 1 fifteen minute break and I had white finger for a few hours when I got home. It was still a good ride . TTB

Its better after 3 years , looses the rose colour and becomes more like a liqueur. Its also worth making some with cinnamon in it. TTB

XT500 polishing a turd
I bought another XT500 about 2 months ago and have been adding bits ai had laying around. I did buy some new plastics , decals and a tank as well as other stuff, stands me a £1450 ish. Its took some long hard days but it actually pulls well, plan is to just run it as is and maybe restore maybe when i get bored. Before A few more small jobs to do like adding the bash plate once the dents have been removed. TTB

xt550 holding back
Had the same problem on my mates 2KF xt600 , same carbs but it was getting a restricted fuel supply into the carb. Check the fuel tap Supply pipe Worth also checking the elbow join going into the carb just to make sure theres no restriction there. Other than than also check the small feed pipe linking the second stage carb. TTB

Hi im no expert but never heard of Matsui preparing the TT for ISDE, is there a possibility that they may have just been a sponsor. All the XT500 were twin shock , the 550 was the first monoshock . TTB
