  1. Hi. Yeah Ive got a 60cc rebore kit on it and my carb is jetted for that so I'm just gonna buy a whole new rebore kit and fit that. I will have piece of mind then that I'm not losing pressure etc. Just a last question, how long do I run it in for and how should I ride during this time? Also, do i need to use any kind of gasket sealer when im putting it back together? Cheers
  2. Ok i'l strip it all down tomorow morn and clean off the old gaskets and clean out the threads. Hopefully the threads will be fine. Just to clarify, once ive slid my barrel off my piston and replaced the piston by taking the pin out of the piston (or is it gudgeon ) how do i get my new barrel past my piston rings? Do i need some sort of compressor or can i use something else - preferably free? I'll get some pictures tomorow of the the whole kit, see what you think. Oh and my profiles now updated - im in bolton, manchester thankyou
  3. They didnt look to bad. Im thinking its more where the nut screws onto the stud at the top as all the thread has been ripped off that bit. But still, the whole stud unscrewed out and the nut is stuck on the top. Some more studs and nuts are on their way now anyway so i'l soon know whether the crankcase needs redrilling and have the insert in (fingers crossed it doesnt) When i do get the studs, how do i get them screwed into the crankcase, do i just screw them in as far as they will go by hand hand and then slide the barrel etc on top and then put the nuts on top? Or is there a different way? Thanks, much appreciated.
  4. Im pretty sure it has a 60cc big bore kit on (43mm piston) will double check tomoz. And i ordered standard gaskets. Just realised i will have to send them back (stupid mistake). So what do you think the best option will be? New 60cc big bore kit (ie whole new barrel, piston, rings, gaskets) and then my new studs too like this one: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/YAMAHA-DT50-DT50M-DT50MX-BIG-BORE-BARREL-PISTON-KIT-/220669549503?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item3360ee1bbf So if my new studs wont tighten either, what work will i have to have done? cheers Ryan
  5. Hi, I passed my CBT today so im now on the road! But i have a big problem. I struggle to get up hills, or even when the road gopes onto a small uphill slant. It rides ok and then as soon as i hit a small angle of height it starts to die down and go really slow. So then i down change gear and give it near fulls revs and it does the same thing The best i can do up a hill is about 20mph max in 2nd gear or something. Anyway, i got home and thought i might have been losing compression or have very little. So i took the hear off and the nuts on the big long studs were not tight at all (one of which had rusted to the stud and the whole stud came out) . When i took the barrel off, the gasket between the barrel and crankcase was torn in half and the head gasket didnt seem too healthy. Also my piston had black marks down the side of it (under the rings). I then put it all back together untouched. When i tightened the studs and they were just rounding, the threads on the studs werent great and im hoping its the studs that have rounded and not the actual holes that they go into. WHen i started the bike and revved it i can feel a slight leakage of air that feels to be coming from between the barrel and crankcase but cant be sure. So ive now ordered gaskets and new studs. Do i need gasket sealant or anything? Its these gaskets: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280558761963&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT Is my bike ok to ride at the minute? Bearing in mind that i have to rev it really high to get up hills etc Thankyou very much for any replies Ryan. Iv
  6. PASSED! thanks
  7. Hi thanks for the replies. I took your advices and rang them up. Turns out that as long as I do my cbt within two weeks from Saturday then I can insure my bike. So I bought my insurance then ( £205 instead of the £549 I got quoted at the brokers ) and I will get my cover note within 5 days so then I can tax it. The cbt place said they can get me in straight away. So now just waiting on my provisional Thanks again! Ryan
  8. Hi. Thanks for the replies. I want to do it all properly but want to do it as quickly as possible. So im thinking: 1. Wait for provisional 2. Do cbt 3. Insure it (£181 full payment, third party only) 4. wait for cover proof thing through post 5. Take it to post office along with MOT certificate and log book and get tax over the counter 6. Have some fun!! What do you think? And before i go, how long will it take to book a cbt, should i get booking now? cheers Ryan.
  9. Hi. I have a DT50 and im waiting on my provisional to come through. When i have got it im doing my CBT. However i cant tax or insure it until i have my CBT. (to tax i need insurance, and to insure it i need my CBT). Im just wondering that if i do my CBT, then come home and buy insurance online, along with tax, will both the tax and insurance be valid on that day to go riding as soon as ive done my CBT? Or will i have to wait for the paperwork to come through the post? Thanks Ryan
  10. Hi, yep my electrics were shot too. Everything worked but the connections were dodgy and some of the wires were in bad nic so i just cleaned them all, re-taped them and fixed dodgy wires with my soldering iron. At the same time ive put a secret killswitch somewhere on the bike hidden so that if anybody manages to hotwire it by taking out the key etc, they will panic when it doesnt start haha. Only I know how to start it lol. Got the switch from an old RC car Ive ordered a new brake cable just to be safe too. The guy was telling the truth about tthe big bore kit costing so much. Ive had a look at the reciept and its valid. He didnt tell me that for that price he got a service and MOT thrown in though. What are these hi-tech reeds that you have? What do they do and where do they go? yeah cant wait to get on it!! Insurance i got quoted £181 a year but thats thrid party only. Compehensive was £300 dearer and id only get about £250 if anything happened to it so its dead money really. Ive got a huge chain, padlock and D-lock, aswell as my secret killswitch so theres no way they are getting it anyway. Well i hope not! And my provisional SHOULD be here in 2 weeks max. Should i get booking my CBT now? Cheers Ryan.
  11. Cheers mate. You got a pic of yours? I was reading your other thread before about hi-tech reeds. I have no idea what they are and so dont know whether i have got them or not but the guy i bought mine from said that he had a 60cc big bore kit (i measured 43-44mm piston against the standard 39mm) and claimed it goes 65mph. Dont believe him though. I will let you know once my provisional comes through and ive done my cbt Heres a recent pic: Since i have got it i have cleaned out the carb, petrol tank and baffle. I have re-painted the forks, fitted new speedo cable and front shoes (but my brake is still rubbish on the front - really soft) and ive changed the gearbox and 2t oil for some decent stuff. Runs really well. Up and down the drive that is lol, will have to see how it really is once i manage to get out of 3rd Its only had 2 owners and has done 13000 miles. Cost me £275 plus the cost of the parts i mentioned before. Whats yours like?
  12. Thanks again for the replies. I fully understand it all now. Youve made it very clear After work i went to a bike shop and asked for some 10w-30 gearbox oil for a 2-stroke and some semi-synthetic 2 stroke oil. He said that 10w-30 isnt common in the uk and it doesnt matter whether i get 10w-40 or 10w-30. He only had 10w-40 and it was cheap so i just got that. He said he's used it before in dt's which made up my mind. Anyway, my 2 stroke tank is now full and my gearbox oil has been changed, all good now and changes smoother! Thanks for the help! oh and before i go, does anybody know how to set the 2 stroke oil pump. The guy in the bike shop said the cable has to be set right so that the mixture of air/fuel and 2 stroke oil is perfect so that it doesnt smoke too much. He said that there will be 2 lines, one on the pump and one on the disc that the cable goes round. He said to match them up by adjusting the cable and i will be good to go. BUT.... i cant see any lines, i think i can see one on the disc but none on the actual pump. Does anybody know what to do?? Cheers
  13. ok thanks for the info, i'l consider it in the near future Ryan
  14. hmm.. Sorry but im confused So, up to now i have gathered that: You have 2 stroke engine oil (that is either mixed with the petrol or injected by the modern type pump - which i have), then you have the ordinary engine oil that goes into the top of the engine (into a hole that has a screw in cap thing) and is drained by a 17mm nut underneath the engine. And then there is gearbox oil; which i have no idea where is, where it is drained, or filled back up. As you can tell im a total newb lol. The link you gave only sells the 2 stroke oil (mixed with petrol) for my bike, they dont stock the oil that sits in the sump Can anybody tell me what/where i should be looking? Ive had a look on halfords but they only sell engine oil (that goes in the sump) for 4T bikes. And motorworld dont sell bike oil at all. Please help
  15. Yeah i thought that too. And everything on the bike seems original so now want to keep it that way. Its only had 2 owners and only one of them had it on the road. The guy before me used it as a field bike. Its got 13000 miles and just before i bought it the guy had a big bore kit (60cc) put on by a garage, cost him £595 !! Anyway i got it for £275 :) Ive ordered some mirrors, front shoes, and now just need a rear tyre. It has 11 months MOT but no tax. Hopefully i will get it on the road within 3 weeks. Waiting on my provisional. Heres a recent pic, after refurbing the forks and stuff: I will be selling it around march ish when im old enough for a 125 - dt125 that is Thanks for the reply Ryan.
  16. Hi, thanks for the reply. Yes, my whole electrical system is 6v (i think). Well my headlight goes brighter as the revs go higher. And my tail light/stop light is the same bulb. I think i will just stick with a filament bulb. I dont have the cash to start experimenting lol. Thanks again
  17. Hi, Which oil should i buy? I need some 2 stroke oil and some engine oil for a 93 DT50. Also, my gearbox is pretty clunky and sometimes seems stiff and doesnt go into neutral very well. Could this be due to bad/no gearbox oil? How do i check the gearbox oil? Thanks in advance
  18. hi, Ive got a dt50 with a broken tail light. The stop light is fine but they are both the same bulb. I was looking on ebay for a new one and saw the 24 LED ones (6v as my bike is a 1993), and just wondered if they are worth the £4 extra? Has anybody got any of these, what do you think? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/24-led-red-stop-and-tail-light-bulb-6v-/150486906751?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item2309b7f77f my bike: But ive now repainted the forks and fitted new gaitors. Also just bought some chrome mirrors Cheers, Ryan.
  19. Thanks for the replies, you've put my mind at rest I bought it for £275. It needs wing mirrors, a new rear tyre, the front brake sqeeks, speedo doesnt work and i need an L plate for the back. Oh and the tail light doesnt work, told it was a bulb. Also, the guy before me stripped a screw that attatched the carb bowl to bottom of carb and then replaced it with a screw made for use with wood. So the thread on one of the carb bolts is stripped and leaks out the side ever so slightly. Does anybody know where i could get a new carb? And any reccomendations? Today i stripped the whole bike down and gave it a good clean, the petrol tank was full of grit, as was the 2 stroke oil tank. The carb was too so ive cleaned all them along with the baffle and it runs much smoother now. Im very happy with the rear brake, has a firm feel to it and stops really well but the front is squeely and soft to pull, any suggestions on how to improve this (im new to drum brake). Also the speedo, any idea on where to start? As to the rear tyre, its completly bald, no idea how it passed its MOT 2 weeks ago!! Is there somewhere i can buy a new one from, i like the idea of the nobbly look but want some decent grip too! Anyway, 20q over lol. PICS: Let me know what you think Cheers, Ryan
  20. Hi, im new here. Im 16 and have just bought a 93 DT50 as my first road bike. Im new to yamahas but love mine already so cant wait to get learning Anyway, my first problem has arrived. The guy i bought it from told me that it has been bored out to 60cc. But im not sure whether to belive him, can anybody tell me how i would know if it has been bored out? And what problems may arise if it is 60cc (ie, mechanically but also riding it on a Provisional moped CBT license? How would i go about insuring it etc? And would i be best taking it back to 50cc or is this hard to do? All answers very appreciated, i will get pics up soon! Thanks, Ryan
