  1. I usually have a polyamide/polyester thermal top, a cotton thermal top, a hoodie (no am not a chav/ned, they just keep heat in) and a proper biking jacket. I opt to put over a cheap and nasty green waterproof when it pours down. I know theres some talk about the ad-on shield that you can vary the wind sheer. Where could i acquire a good set of hand shields than dont break the bank? Thanks for all your help so far
  2. Sorry, i forgot to mention i've got heated grips. They help a little but i really dont feel them that much through my gloves
  3. Hey, was just wanting to pick a few of your heads over this. Its getting colder here up in Glasgow, Scotland as some of you may be experiencing. I was looking for increased protection mainly for my hands and for my upper body. I know i can lean into my bike for some protection but i was wondering if there was something more if i didn't want to fully lean in. I dont like the bike's touring screen so was looking for something different. Also i was looking for some more protection for my hands, i've though about muffs but i've been told they are quite dangerous and can sometimes catch on the brake and clutch leavers. I was wondering what you winter hardened bikers do for the cold? Thanks David
  4. congrats Dave, just watch out for private taxis, they are the worst.
  5. Have you stiffened your rear suspension at all? I think i was too heavy handed with the back brake after tightening my rear suspension. I also found that happened to me with the diesel but after a long hard ride and a good wash down it went away.
  6. Someone knows their stuff Did you do physics by any chance haha

Welcome home Godge, hope you have a good stay, you should find a couple of people from scotland, including me here to have a chinwag with.
  9. If thats done in wee, someone has some good stop start action there
  10. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=390219237963&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT#ht_1408wt_922 Installed these today, i wont say its the easiest job under the sun but most people could do it. You need to do some cutting and soldering as the connections given aren't long enough and the correct shape. Will post pictures in a while.
  11. I dont want to bad mouth the yamaha centre in glasgow Immobiliser works fine, alarm is just temperamental, already took it back once. I was told it was a loose connection which they sorted.
  12. I just feel the alarm is more hassle than its worth. Its so temperamental, yeah it lowers the insurance but come on, is it really worth all the hassle. I've had loose wires, the last problem was the seat wasn't making the proper connection.
  13. Anyone else got one of these? I've had it for over two months and the wires have came loose twice. Anyone else have any problems?
  14. not even if u paid me in R1's
  15. I got it off the day thankfully. I used the hex key and one of the mini pole things you get in the tool kit and yanked it and it came off. I didn't want to give halfrauds any more money than what they are worth. Its quite interesting, the first spate of downpour and the glue on my heated grips stops sticking to the accelerator. I have tried Renthal Grip Glue now, hopefully it'll stick before the morning or i'm back to square one. Not impressed, new bike, within the first month the Meta alarm breaks and now with the onset of Winter the grips start to play up. Does this happen much with heated grips?
  16. I got the correct Hex key, its an 8 mm i had 6,7,10mm haha. Problem is now it wont bloody move. Its like its stuck on, i tried putting the hex key in and hammering the hex key and that still didn't budge it.
  17. Simple question. Where can i get the tool to remove the Bar End Weights on my XJ6. I've tried alan key's up to a size 13" but they are still too small. Is there a tool i am missing? Thanks
  18. The tires have millions of tread left on them, they are brand new Dunlop's i think that came with the bike. I know where your coming on with the rear brake having no feel to it, you can literally stand on it and only then will u get something in the feel department. I think you could be right Cynic, I might just not want to ruin my new toy within the first couple of months of getting it. I've also found that the grips got progressively better the further into the week i go (check tire pressure once or twice a week). Could running too high on air in the back tire cause it to slide? I trained on an Xj6 and a honda cbf 500 and have found the honda to have way more grip than the XJ. I did a lot of my training in the wet and found that the honda never slid at all :S Weird Tried my hand at filtering today, nerve racking as hell. Some motorists give you space, some close it down.
  19. Hey, am new to this forum so i'll try to give as much detail as i can. I've just had my 600 mile service on my XJ6S and never really had any problems with it until after this. I brought it home fine on the motorway but when in the cold or wet mornings or on first starts during the day, the back wheel steps out quite a lot when i brake. Could they have increased the strength of the back brake without telling me, could it be just the cold tires mixed with the rain in Glasgow, could i have just hit a bad patch of diesel on the road (Although it was stepping out when braking in a straight line quiet a few times? Am a new biker and never really experienced this much at all. Could i be riding the bike too hard to begin with in the morning cause its passed its first break in peroid? Your thoughts would be grateful, Thanks

    Yamaha XJ6

Almost a month into my new 09' XJ6S and had no real problems with it. Handles great and sounds nice if you like the buzz up in the 7000 rpms. Treat it nicely though if you go for a new one, but not too nice. The gears are clunky if you short shift or multi down for traffic lights and roundabouts but if you ride it properly its a dream. I just done the DAS and did look around at smaller bikes but if you've got some commuting to do and want a bike with some grunt still left in it after 70mph (and higher ) give it a go. Make sure if you by a 09 model you don't pay 10' price tag.
