fuel getting to engine?
I'd consider cleaning the carb again... I know on my DT175 I cleaned the carb, i was having issues. So i cleaned it again real attentively and it fired up and sounded better then ever before. Use the straw on the carb clean and shoot it in every single hole you can find...Then blow it out with air. Also, soak the floats in a cup of gas...see if they sink or take on fuel... shake them around a little bit. Some carburetors are just a little harder to clean.

ran fine yesterday, today BLAHHHH
I'm thinkin there's still something in the carb.. I mean it can't hurt to clean it again. How does the inside of the tank look? And ya know... maybe you should buy a book or something on this bike because it can't be good to just start cranking the adjustment screws around... And if your worried about rings, run a compression test on it.. both wet and dry.

fuel getting to engine?
could be a few things...Is there fuel getting into the carbureteor? I've gotten into the habbit of running clear lines, (along with an inline fuel filter) from the tank to the carb.. Maybe un screw the bolt and see if it's full and/or possibly full of debris.. You probably just need a good cleaning. How long has the bike been sitting?

Fuel in oil??
awesome... thank you! I've been battling this bike since last summer. I had it in the shed for the winter and just pulled it out. Sometimes all you need is a fresh start on a project to regain your oomph on it.

Fuel in oil??
I drained the oil on my 74 dt 175 and I think i could smell gas in the oil... What could cause that? Running it too rich?

High idle dt 175
I have the air at 2 1/4 and the idle at 1 1/2. I did just replace the cable too. when i rode it and it ran good it was with the old cable. So i guess i'll be checking that again. Thanks for the help! It just seemed weird, but the oil injection and the cable were the only things i did after i had it running decent already, so it kind of narrows it down to those two.

High idle dt 175
Well My carb doesn't have a port for an oil line. I only have the one small line that goes into the crankcase. Here's a pic. and the routing. When i replaced the throttle cable i followed the manual on priming whereas i spun the wheel with the screw out until clear oil was coming out. Maybe i should disconnect the lines and try some premix? i Don't know....

High idle dt 175
I've been workin on getting my dt 175 running mint. I cleaned the carb, replaced the bowl drain gasket, petcock gasket, kreemed the tank reinstalled the oil injection lines that the p.o cut and blocked, changed the air filter, replaced the boot between filter and carb and got all new clamps, replaced the gaskets on top of the carb on either side of the thing that screws onto the carb. Before i did anything, i cleaned the carb out, bolted it on as is, and poured a little bit of gas in there. I didn't really premix it with any type of measuring, but i did add oil. It ran pretty good. Then after i got the oil injection on there working, it started idling really high like 4 grand. I figured it was an air leak so thats when i changed the boot and clamps. Still high idle. Just wondering if the oil injection could have anything to do with it. Is it possible i didn't bleed it right or it's not working at all? The fact that it ran good with out it, and now like crap is mind boggling. At first start up the idle isn't too high, but after riding it for like 3 seconds the bike is real boggy and then it started revving higher and higher. Could it just be a case of adjusting the throttle cable? Everyone keeps telling me to spray around with carb clean or something like that, but with it already idling at 4 grand i'd rather not. Any point in the right direction would be much appreciated, thanks!

first run yamaha gt80
how does the plug look? Maybe the thing just flooded out. snap a pic of the plug though and post it up... did you set the air screw to 2 1/2 and the the idle to just get it running about 1 1/2?

I don't think that's a 4 year old. my votes for a midget

"new" in new topic is relative
Is the spark nice and strong? I had a similar problem where my bike ran fine at lower rpms, but once revved up it'd lose power fast. Turned out to be one winding on the primary coil had corosion. Took off that one wind around and problem solved. Also, take a picture of your carb and post it up, is it dirty at all? maybe the screw is just hidden or something..

that's the most epic thing i've ever seen. Half the time he looks confused... like, "why am i doing this, could i look any gayer?"

1974 DT 175
that's what i though, thanks. someone told me it was a return, which i wasn't buying... a vent sounds much much better.

1974 DT 175
i hate to ask but on the oil tank, there's two lines coming from it. I'm guessing one is feeding the pump and the other is a vent? the feed is a given, but i wasn't sure if there was a return or maybe just a vent. Just want to be sure.
