  1. Hi thanks for that, though you may have a different hub to mine, my DT175 is a 1975 it has a symetrical hub, I think the later DT175 MX had a offset hub. Cheers
  2. Hi Guys I'm looking at lacing a new set of wheels for my 1975 DT 175, I have a couple of spokes left on my 21" front wheel to measure, though if possible I'd like to check other bikes of the same year and wheel size to confirm mine is correct. I currently have a spoke length of 225mm from the spoke end to the spoke bend. 230mm complete length. Many thanks

  4. Not a bad idea on using copper first, though I think I might have found someone locally who might be able to make some pipes up for me, I'll keep you posted on the progress. Cheers.
  5. I contacted Redmax speed shop about custom exhausts, but the same as Harris they need the bike to construct the exhaust, the problem for me I live in Guernsey a small Island in the English Channel. I might buy a few bits of pre bent tube to experiment with, I would like to as much work as I can on this project.
  6. Hi has any body had any experiance in bending 38mm Stainless tube for a custom exhausts, I've watched a few videos on youtube, though i've not found many home made pipes, most guys are in professional workshops using expensive machines. I've found some sections of pre bent tube, but have visions of it looking like spaghetti junction. I'm looking to build a set of down pipes for an XS 400 that has the twin high side exhaust "Flat track style" and then use some Megaphone silencers as tailpipes.
  7. Yes quite deep pits, it looks like the casing had a weld repair along time ago, but I've only just noticed it after having the casings blasted, I may have to consider re painting them or try and find replacements on Ebay.
  8. Hi has anybody got any experiance on repairing small areas of pitting on alloy engine casings? Thanks.
  9. Thanks for the responses Guys. I'll post some pics up later. Cheers
  10. Hi, has anybody have experiance with dished front sprockets? I'm working on a XS400, Ive fitted a different swing arm to allow for 150 rear tyre on Talon wheels. I need about 8-10mm on the front sprocket to allow for the chain alignment. Thanks

Hi, I might be looking to sell my DT 100, i think its a 1979 model in very good condition, Ive looked through Ebay but never seem to find any. Does any body have any ideas of prices?

Thanks very much for your reply, I'm looking into fitting a modern front end on to my old XS400, so that has helped alot. Cheers

Hi, could anyone tell me what length and diameter the forks are for a XJ 600 diversion ? Thanks

No I'm with Hornix, it feels exactly as he described as if something is physically jamming and stopping the bike from moving backwards, its not gradual its immediate. There isn't a kickstart on there at the moment so I'm not sure on that scenario.

Hi, the DT100 was pure fluke, I literally stumbled across it while going to do some work on my DT175, the guy in the next lockup had recently bought it , so after a quick chat and a few quid it was mine.

Its just a bit odd, today is the first time I managed to get the bike going, so I had a blip round the yard, its only then when turning the bike around I noticed I couldnt roll backwards whilst in gear, I havent tried with the engine off as yet, but I thought i'd try and see if you guys had experianced this.

Hi Merv, I dont think its clutch drag, as I can easily roll forwards in gear with the clutch in but just not backwards, it almost seems like an anti roll back mechanism in there somewhere?

Hi, a quick question, I recently bought a XS400,for some reason I'm not able to roll the bike backwards while in gear with the clutch pulled in?. The guy who previously owned it before said there had once been a sidecar on the bike, is this problem due to having been set up for a sidecar?.

Looks like I might have to rethink, the rear on the KTM is 160 width tyre, so thats a no go, maybe then a set of 125 - 250 cc spoked wheels.

Hi, thanks for your recomendations, I think I'll head towards the 17" wheels, though what size rear tyre will you run?. I've been looking at some KTM LC4 supermoto wheels, though I'm concerned that the width of the rear tyre might foul the run of the chain. I've had a quick look at the pictures of your Tracker, its looking really good, its also nice to see the progress in stages too, are you nearer to finishing?

Yeah it's been dificult to come up with an answer, I'm considering using TZR-TDR 250 forks as I prefer just a single disc brake, currently my bike has a drum front brake. The swing arm options I've been looking at are possibly a SRX400,CB400-4 or ER5 twinshock swing arm, but I'm not sure how much machining it will require to fit and wether the shock mounts will line up. Another thought I'm having is wheel size wether to go for 17" supermoto wheeels or try and stick to standard size and go for 18" ?

Hi, I'm looking for ideas for fitting modern wire wheels possibly supermoto wheels to a 1980 XS 400, I've toyed with the idea of replacing the forks and yokes completely to make life easier for modern front wheel fitting, also thinking about replacing the swing arm again hoping that modern wheels/brakes will fit better. Has anyone experimented with this? Cheers

Thanks guys, I'll give it a try. Though my mission is a bit tricky, I've allready exported the bike from the UK to where I live in Guernsey, Channel Islands and need to apply for export documentation from the DVLA which was OK but without any idea of the original reg number its turning into a nightmare. I'm keeping my fingers crossed the VJMC might be able to help. Thanks

I've contacted Yamaha service today, the guy was really helpful and informed me the bike was a 1975 bike, What I need to do now is try and find its original registration number, does anybody have an idea how to go about this?

Good point, the barrell and piston are in mint condition, so have probably recently been worked on, I'll keep an eye out for any other markings on casings and so on. Another thing that interested me was that Yamaha used to sell piston and carb kits ect, to spec up your DT for off road use, I wonder exactly what parts they sold. As on my bike I have a Dellorto carb and a 21" front wheel.
