Yamaha had only 2 models in 1978 with shaft drive, they were the 750 Triple and 1100 4 cylinder. It's one of the two.
  2. What does the engine do when you press the start button? In other words, what does it sound like?
  3. Sounds to me like you need a good carb cleaning.

Thanks, but the bike is kept in the garage, and I don't really have a place to install the panel so that it won't get stolen. Ttaskmaster, yup immobiliser on the security system.

If it's an XS400J, your air boxes do come out. All you have to do is unscrew the bar clip that holds them on. There is one screw holding these on at the bottom, and the clip on the top. You're going to have to completely take the carbs apart to clean them properly, otherwise you will continue to have problems. As long as you don't turn the Sync screw, you won't have to readjust it. The Sync assembly does not need to be adjusted to separate the carbs, you can just pull them apart, as the it's spring loaded. You will find some manual information in the "XS400" links Thread, at the top of the Classics Forum.
  6. Did you purchase the o-ring for the mixture screws? Those are, so says MikesXS, needed for the bike to idle properly.
  7. Not a problem. I ordered the performance wire simply because I thought my finace would like yellow, they don't seem to be any different other than the color. If you like yellow, get them, if not then I would just get the regular black ones. Those Iridium plugs seem like a bum deal to me, I haven't bothered with them. That's just my

Just because you have a heads-up display doesn't mean you should discard common sense. "Look both ways before crossing the street." -Mom

Prices might be good, but travel costs would negate any savings. Just too far away.
  10. What size fuse are you using for the main?
  11. Everything looks good, except for the fuel line, that one is too wide.
  12. Glad you got it back in one piece, sorry that it has fewer bits than before. Asswipes, they deserve a little stabby stabby.

We are having a budget wedding. Problem is she is a doctor, just graduated med school. Loans are in excess of $200,000. *sigh*

Yeah, I've been thinking about it. Unfortunately, all my money is currently being invested in my wedding.

    Cannot bump start the Triumph.

Looks good Drewps. You certainly have a lot more patience than me. If I had started that project when you did, and ran out of money, I probably would have sold a kidney to continue.
  17. Check mixture screws. If you have them turned out less than 3.5 times, that's probably the issue.

2005 Kawasaki Ninja 500R, bought brand new. I don't miss it. First bike I owned, not the first I rode. First bike I rode was a kid's dirt-bike that my best friend had. His father had a couple bikes including an Indian. Next came a 70's Honda that one of my friends had, then an old Suzuki.

Don't you hate it when you haven't been a able to ride for a while, and you have a day with nice weather, but you go out to start the bike...dead battery. There are downsides to having a security system on your bike.

The more I look at the Duke, the more it seems like the best looking of the bunch. I liked the front and seat of the Honda better at first, but I think the Duke has captured my eye more.

I like the look of it, but this one has a little more. You pay for it though. Or at only $10,000 Both have more power, though that may not be what you are interested in. I like the look of all three bikes, but if I had to choose based on looks, I'd probably go with the Honda.
  22. I was just trying to make a funny, failed apparently.
  23. Wouldn't that mean he's from your neck of the woods Twatsville and all!
  24. Glad to hear you got it back. Having to pay to get your bike out of storage is a kick in the teeth though. Keep us updated.
  25. I laughed. Nice find, Drewps.
