I was thinking to myself the other day how hard would it ACTUALLY be to make some slip-on mufflers? Like surely you could just get the right pipe etc and attach the right fittings? No? Am I far out? haha

Yeah that's what been done with mine. I've seen other vids about drilling into the side and then putting rivets in or something, but reeeeeeealy? Anyway, let us know when you're done - show us a pic or send a vid or something... would be nice to hear how this one turns out LOUD PIPES SAVE LIVES.

Anyway, I'm not sure I can help much - but someone had already done it to my bike when i bought it and, well, it sounds great. Yeah I guessed that I think for my first one I'll look for one that is already running run - and maybe touch it up just cosmetically, and resell it. You know - one of those ebay ones that could have had that little more done to them, and listed a bit better, to buy, and then sell on again - make a bit for my next project. Would that be advisable? woah. Okay I'm thinking of customizing my xvs125 into a bobber - like someone else has already done on this forum. But I don't want to spend too much cash. I know that's ambitious but I reckon I could do it... In the future, I'm looking to buy projects like that and sell them on. Not only to make a bit of cash - but also to build up a bit of know how - and hopefully do develop a nice hobby So any suggestions on how messed-up a bike I should begin with? I don't know too much actually, but nowadays - most things can be found on Youtube anyway (and with guidance from such amazing forums ) Regards Chris

The "piping" I referred to was similar to the style in the picture above... Where do you get them? I've seen a couple of places selling white-wall tires - but im not sure if they would specifically fit an xvs? Regards Chris

If I'm honest - you can buy that type of piping for gas - so probably could make one easily What have you replaced your rear shocks with? Did you just make a bit of metal to fit? Regards Chris

Can you attach a front fender to the rear? I was thinking about a little project like this myself - but am at a loss for a rear fender. I don't really fancy making one myself but I want the classic bobber "close fit" style of fender. Of course - that's not possible with the fender mount already fitted (I think mine is exactly the same), so what solutions do we have for that? Is it easy to remove the fender mount? And then after that would it be easy to mount the front fender to the rear? Regards Chris

Well I haven't seen many bobbers with sissybars - I think it looks okay, it will still look good either way matey! A wood seat? Man that's going to hurt you bum! I really like the style of exhausts on the first link I sent you - do you have to buy them like that? Or is there a way to make them??

Oh wow. Is it hard to make fenders from fiberglass?! I think if it is - when I eventually move on to a bigger bike - I'll just grind the fenders down until I've got enough covering my arse! I'm not sure what I'd do with the rear lights then - maybe I'll think of something. I'm going to wait until I move onto a bigger bike first. Your idea for the LED back lights sounds great - would you have to cut holes in the fender?? You made it sound as if the lights would shine THROUGH the fiberglass...? Are you going to put the standard bobber seat on it? And are they universal? Or again - are you going to have to find a specific one? I like the way you've got your sissybar there to - will look really good. What are you going to do about pipes? Have you got the standard exhausts fitted to the XVS125? Or are you going to upgrade a little...? I really like the pipes on the first link I sent you.. if you've looked? I think that's got a bigger engine, although, would you still be able to make/fit pipes like that? Are those pipes "make-able" or do you have to get em from somewhere? I'm just putting questions into your mind here so you can spark off some ideas for your bike Chris

I've seen LOADS of awesome bobbers with RED wheels?! Nothing wrong with it - you want it to stand out I think, when I pass my test, I can see myself commencing a project very similar to this What are you going to put on the rear with regards to fenders? Do you have to buy specific fenders for xvs? Or are they generally universal? I know bobbers have a really small almost half-wheel fender on the back - what are you going to do for that?? Chris

Wow a bit of a project... what's the budget?? I wish I had enough disposable cash and enough know-how to get some projects going. I don't know why, I've just fallen in love with the Night Rod Harley... I just love that style... (am I allowed to say that on a Yamaha forum?! haha) I think I've seen midnight stars slightly similar to it... I'm not sure how a dragstar would look w/o the chrome and painted matt black??? Chris

Haha, Just a question. If the donor bike is a 125 dragstar, can you put a bigger engine in it?? Also, are you painting most of it black? Like exhausts and everything? Make it look like a midnight star? Or ever a Harley night rod?? (man I love them bikes). Chris

Beat you to it! An old friend (about 60 years old!) down at one of those local "we-sell-everything" hardware stores said it would be easier to just get some good old polish on, rather than re-doing the paint. Plus, he said it would be obvious if I painted over the chrome scratches. I'll do it this afternoon and post some pics. Chris

Haha this is too much fun Now to address some scratches with a little rust around the muffler - like I said, it does look like it has been dropped at some point, and has some scratches along it. Not too bad, but still, I WANT IT SHINEY! Nonetheless, would normal chrome polish help the cosmetics of this? Also, what's the standards of most chrome paints? Could I spray over in an effort to cover it up a little? Chris
