MY BLOODY BIKE!!!
How about an XVS with slightly bent forks, some shitty paintwork on the tank, etcetc. However, I've calmed down now, and am still gonna stick your fender on, and bling it up a little (as well as fixing the forks etc...) ANYWAY I took the bike down the mechs. It's the starter motor. We stripped it down, IT WAS FULL OF OIL from the crash. The slight sound from the starter motors wasn't actually it turning, rather, it was the oil boiling. ahahah. Anyway, looks like I'm gonna be needing a new one. Paul? Chris

MY BLOODY BIKE!!!
I think I'l wait buddy cheers. And yeah I know it's a lot of cash, but I've got two grand spare + whatever I get for my drag - what it costs to do me full test so... Anyway I dunno I'm going to get her looked over Chris

MY BLOODY BIKE!!!
Well my xvs was a means to an end. Doing my test. Once I've done it, I'm either getting a bigger (and newer) drag, or similar style (dare I say it - a HD) haha. Chris

MY BLOODY BIKE!!!
well, I tried it with a nearly dead battery and instead of clicking it kind of moved the starter a tiny wheeny bit before.. nothing. So the battery is on charge again and hopefully will start when i try.... Anyway I'm popping it into the garage this afternoon, I can't be fucked anymore. It's up for sale as soon as its working again.

MY BLOODY BIKE!!!
I AM VERY CLOSE TO THROWING A BIG HEAVY BRICK AT HER! Okay so I've done what you said paul, and even without it, I'm just hearing a rather large "click" at the bigging (not a buzz as you would hear with a low battery) and it's not even trying... wiring problem? I'm really really getting annoyed now, it still bump starts fine, but with two new charged batteries it just doesn't make the effort and clicks at me once...

MY BLOODY BIKE!!!
Yeah I did that earlier. Didn't work Chris

MY BLOODY BIKE!!!
Oh I see. I thought you meant the bolt that holds the wire on! Yeah sure thing, cheers mate, I'll try it in the morn. Chris
-
MY BLOODY BIKE!!!
So you suggest putting a piece of wire (any old wire?!) from the negative to the bit on the front of the starter under the rubber thingy?? Yes? Chris

MY BLOODY BIKE!!!
I think my dad just thought of the problem... I have changed the engine in my bike and I think I may have forgot to earth something maybe?? Or perhaps that it's not Earthed well... Perhaps not, I'll check her out. I might strip the starter, is it tricky? Chris

MY BLOODY BIKE!!!
Ahh okay. Well I'll check it all up tomorrey. And Blackhad, I'd definitely be up for taking you guys down or even just tagging along. The hardest part will be getting from the Ace across London. I'd probably go A406 heading south, stop of at Box Hill in Dorking (good biker meeting place, especially if the weather is good), then head on down south using some of the less main roads which are actually amazing and twisty and lovely but don't actually add on too much journey time... Saying that, I need my new bars to arrive tomorrow in order to fit them on Saturday (the ones im using atm are slightly bent) as well as getting my new forks fitted on Saturday (they're waiting in the shop)... I'll keep ya posted, im 90% there though... Chris

MY BLOODY BIKE!!!
Okay so i just brushed them down quickly... Sticking the battery on charge now so will try when I go to footie later. Hopefully will work :S If not, how much dya want for the starter? I've found a new one for £69.99 which looks like a safe bet (I can send it back if its perhaps a worse problem??) Chris

MY BLOODY BIKE!!!
Okay update. I just took it down to the local battery warehouse (yes, fortunately for me, there's a whole warehouse about 2 miles down the road). We hooked it up, and he said that the starter is drawing too much current for the battery supply. In fact, when we tested it, it draws the same amount of current as a car starter motor! He said the easiest way to fix this is with a new starter. funfunfun. The earth thing sounds interesting though... because theres a bit of corrosion around where the lead goes into the starter motor and it gets quite hot (lots of resistance probably)... Any light shed?? Chris

MY BLOODY BIKE!!!
I've stuck it on charge again and if, when fully charged, it starts it, I will draw to that conclusion. If not, I'll commence further investigation... Chris

MY BLOODY BIKE!!!
I've changed the battery, charged the battery, etcetc... When I try and start it it just doesnt sound like the motor has the juice? It's really really really annoying me and I just want her fixed Chris

MY BLOODY BIKE!!!
Are you using the choke? Yes Are your plugs good? I think so? How often should they be changed? Are your tank and the fuel in it clean? I would assume so? How can I tell???? Are the oil and air filters clean? Probably not... never changed. How can fix?? Are the carbs clean? Again, I don't know... How to check? Are the air/fuel mixture and idle properly adjusted? Lastly, I have no clue how to check it... I can bump start it fine and it runs nice though. Chris

MY BLOODY BIKE!!!
Okay so I had what I thought was a reg/rect problem, which turned into a battery problem, which now I think is something worse. I have changed both of these and it still wont start properly. Even with a new battery it in it struggles to start and only starts once. Say if I rode it round the block it will start again cos its already going but if i go anywhere it wont start again. The guy at the battery shop said that it could be that my starter is pulling too much current?? Could that be right? Could it be something worse? The motor turns over, but doesnt have enough "oomph" to start it PLEASE HELP GUYS chris

how to estimate top speed
The bike is restricted electronically. I was speaking to a bloke who'se daughter had the bike, and he said that you CAN bypass it by fiddling around with the tronics... but most people settle for a small increase by changing the sprockets and confusing the bike... I'm changing my sprokets soon and I'll let ya know how it gets on... Chris
