Can't get 550 started
Thanks again, checked the petcock. It is definitely not working. Fuel does flow on prime. Drained float bowls, now they don't fill. Stuck floats? Or should I rebuild petcocks first and then check flow before removing carbs? Sorry to be a pest but do appreciate the help

Can't get 550 started
Thanks Tony, that is exactly what I am saying. The vacuum line simply runs from the petcock to the #2 intake? Is this correct, and if so I should just replace the line and then place petcock in prime to start and then switch to on after it starts. Would sea-foam be safe to run through the carb to help clean them out a little? Bike has not run on a regular basis for at least 4 years. Again,Thanks for the help

Can't get 550 started
I own a clean low mileage xj-550 maxim. I have heard it run, problem is I can't get it started. Petcock is bad only flows in prime position, and it is missing the vacuum line. Where do I look first?

Fuel tap on 82 550 maxim
I have an 82 550 maxim, the bike is in great shape with approx. 9,500 miles. When purchased owner said bike ran.But fuel tap only worked in prime position. When I got bike home I noticed the vacum hose was missing from the fuel tap. I assume the hose goes to an attachment on the manifold somewhere. If this hose were in place would the fuel tap work as intended? As is the bike can be started, but is very tuff to keep running. My question is replace the fuel tap, or just the soe? Where do I find parts like these?

Carb/fuel problem?
Greetings to all, I have recently purchased a 1982 xj550, which has only 4500 miles. It looks great and the previous owner says it ran very well. The problem seems to begin with the fuel petcock, the shaped hose( I assume is a vacum line) is missing so the petcok only flows in the prime position. The bike is difficult to start and then will only run at higher idle. It definitely seems to be a fuel issue. Has any one heard of a similar problem? What do you all think? Many heads are better than one. Also where can I find the missing hose and where does it attach. I am in general familiar with motorcycles but this is my first dealing with this specific type. Thanks for the help.
