Thank you for all your help and sharing you knowledge! It was worth a try. Unfortunately I can't see it being worth the price to fix and I could then find out the CDI has gone, I only bought the buggy frame and engine for about £30 about 5 years ago. I think I will put it back on ebay, either together or a separate auctions. ~Will

From these positions there are still no values of resistance between the tabs and the first join in the wire. (This was just measured when the plate with the coils on was ect not in the engine, does that matter?)

I have checked the wires again and used the multimeter to check if I am getting a circuit between the first break in the wire till the end of the wire (Using the function that beeps) and both of them are looking ok. I am also getting a circuit between the Pulse Coil (The exposed bare wire) and the end of the wire if that means anything, but I can't seem to get the same with the tiny bit of bare wire of the Source Coil.

Just went out to look, the pulse coil had a flap of the rubber coating falling off and now exposing the metal wiring. Its only a hole in the other coating from what I can see.

I'm not 100% sure, I will get back to you tomorrow. Thanks once again for all your help!

I would be surprised if they had got damaged over the years of storage, as they would have been protected by the flywheel. I have carefully unscrewed the screws, the washers are present and the windings are attached. Thought I would take a picture as well just to demonstrate the general condition:

I have looked at all the coils and unscrewed them to check, they appear to all be grounded onto the metal ok. Its hard to see clearly if all the wires are securely connected due to the covers on them and how they join but I can't see any problems. There is a small hole in the tape that covers the Source Coil and I can see some of the wire, I assume that wouldn't cause any real problems?

Checked them again on the settings you said am I am getting the same results, both are still showing no values of resistance.

Sorry I am not very good at electrics (No surprise there) It is like holding the two probes in the air, so that would be no values of resistance from the two coloured. The black is a dead short, like holding the two probes together.

Brown & Red / White to an engine screw are still resulting in nothing. Black to an engine screw is resulting in a settled result around 0.2 ohms, but moving it around on the engine screw constantly creates a bigger changing resistance.

The plot thickens (Or gets clearer ) I don't seem to be getting any resistance between both of the two you told me to check. Let me just check I was doing it right: The end of the Black wire coming out of the Mag and the end of the Brown wire coming out of the Mag with the Multimeter ends on each. And the same with the White / Red and Black? That seems a bit confusing to explain, but I think I am checking correctly.

Every thing minus the Switch is identical to your drawing. Still no spark.

Ok here is a little update: I received the Ignition Coil, but still no spark. I have been out testing the Volts I am getting from each wire and think it might have discovered a problem? The Black Mag wire (Connected to the black CDI wire) is the only one from the Magneto not producing any voltage. I hooked up one of the Lighting / Charge wires in its place and its the only time I am getting any volts to or from the Ignition coil. I am getting anything from 0.20 volts to 4 volts coming out the HT Lead. (set on 20) Does this mean anything at all? Thanks

You have persuaded me to carry on with this! I believe my engine is a 2A8 Model and http://www.transmic.net/fichiers/modelcodes_yam.htm would then suggest it is a from '78? The ebay auction say its fits DT125 1974-1977, Would this still be ok for my model?

Me again... , Just given it another test with the Multi Meter and tbh with you I am not entirely sure what settings it should be on, here are my results. Wire Going In -> Ignition Coil Ground = 0.12 On 200 ohm Scale (It sometimes moves much higher at the start but seems to settle on this number and this is the only setting I can get a reasonable / registering number on) Ht Coil Wire -> Ignition Coil Ground = 6.20 ish on 20k ohm Scale What would this suggest? (I am in the Uk)

Just been looking at the wiring, at the base of the Ignition Coil where the HT lead comes out the wire was completely broken. I'm not sure If its worth me paying to get a new Ignition Coil in a hope that it was the only fault. I am thinking I am now just going to have to Sell the whole buggy and engine on ebay. Thanks for all your help ~ Will

You are right, I will give it a go tomorrow. Fingers Crossed Thanks once again for you so quick responses!

But as the Ht Coil is already mounted on the chassis via the bolt ( Creating an earth) Is it needed? I'm starting to think maybe one (If not multiple) wires could be making a bad connection or something, there are multiple joins on most the wires.
  20. GreatWill replied to GreatWill's post in a topic in Yamaha Workshop
Right, So i have all the connections as above. I have been playing with the multimeter and I am getting slight volts from most the wires. Red / White & Brown are showing the most but they are all so varied from each kick (From 0.10 to around 1.5 max) The only wires I am not getting a reading from is the Black MAG & the HT Lead. The Orange CDI is around 0.30 each kick. Every reading seems so inconsistent Does this mean anything? When you say it should have a wire to the "same chassis common point", There are no places on the HT Coil for another wire to be attached to?
  21. GreatWill replied to GreatWill's post in a topic in Yamaha Workshop
Right, I have now changed that and this is what I have: Mag White / Red -> CDI White / Red Mag Brown -> CDI Brown Mag Black -. CDI Black -> Chassis? (Not sure about that part) Mag Lighting / Charge -> Just dangling CDI Black -> Chassis CDI White/Black -> Just dangling as I have no switch at the moment. CDI Orange -> HT Lead I'm still not getting a spark, and I have tested the spark plug on a lawnmower and it worked. Can I use a multimeter somewhere to test it? Thanks once again for all your help!

Thank you for all your help, but Im still having trouble to get a spark (I did about 3 years ago before I took it off the buggy so know it should work) I have tried to create a paint masterpiece to help me explain what I have got so far: And here are some actual pictures if they help (It was hard to get a suitable angle) Any advice would be greatly received Many Thanks ~Will

Does this photos help any more? The wires do not seem the original colours which is the main reason I have no clue what goes where... Im still rather stuck! Many Thanks for your help ~Will

I have a Dt Mx 125 2A8 engine that is connected to a buggy, but I'm not sure of the wiring and any help would be appreciated. I just need to know what connects to what. There are no lights ect, I just need to create the spark. I have looked at a wiring Diagram but not having much luck. Many Thanks ~ Will
