  1. Popular subject this is! The bag-o-nails trick seems to work well for some, although I've never used it myself. I have had good results from sloshing a bit of diesel around in the tank a few times which seemed to work well in the particular scenario I had. Fortunately.... the 2 bikes I currently have both have tanks in good shape. But I've been keeping good mental notes on these remedies for rust removal.

    hello

Nice Gixxer there Alan! Bet you can really notice the weight difference between it & the VFR?

You'd be surprised how much Armor-All can hide some of those.

    hello

HiYa Mozz! Good to see you're still alive & kicking mate Life's gotta be a bitch when you have to work 7 days a week & be stuck in a cage to boot! My workload is starting to pick up as well..... plus I've been riding the XT in some pretty chilly temps lately.....down around 0c for the past week Pete seems to be enjoying his new life in Spain though.....looks like there's some killer terrain there for riding
  5. $150 is pretty average these days. I'll try & dig up a link to an online site where I've bought some factory Yamaha parts for my XT.... that are actually cheaper than paying those rediculous dealer prices! I'll post it when I get home where I've got it bookmarked.
  6. Dave..... It might be more cost & time effective to use a coupla jack stands.....OR.....you could get a paddock stand from Dennis Kirk You can order a FREE catalog from that site
  7. Paul..... Does this noise only occur when you're throttling up? If you can, try rolling down a hill with the motor off to see if you can still hear it?......just to be sure it's coming from the drive chain ......It could be that it's typical run-in noises from a new chain. Also be sure to lube the chain well too. Hope this helps
  8. to the Forum Dave Nice score on your Seca there. ...looks like it's got loads of potential I've been an XJ advocate for a good while...(even though I currently ride an XT now) I rode this 1st generation Seca daily for 13 years...... It's amazing how bulletproof they are! Best of luck with yours

Gotta concur with my mate LC ...It'd be far more efficient to spend your hard earned dosh on the next bike you get. It's always gonna be a 50 & will always sound like a 50.....but I understand your need for a better exhaust note. Me & LC were 16 once, & take it from this 43 yr. old fart who's been riding Yamaha's for the past 20 years......that need never really goes away! Knowing that you're gonna sell the bike next year, you'll be far happier upgrading the exhaust on your next bike. Just a friendly bit of advice

    I'm back too

Look who's calling the kettle Black!
  11. It's scenario's like that Danger, that made me say "to Hell with Bike Shops!" ....& I used to work for one! Last time I took 1 of my bikes to a shop, they did NOT solve my problem but yet still charged me $50 for just changing a fuse & spark plugs!.....Bastards! I do ALL my own work now It sometimes may take me a bit longer to sort problems out, But my wallet doesn't get drained nearly as quick.
  12. I can totally relate there Andy Back in the summer of '98, I landed a job @ a local bike shop that I've been patronizing for @ least 15 years. Being a life-long Artist, I was originally hired to do a paintjob on the side of the building, which I completed (by hand) from a 4" decal for a template......the completed product ended up being 17ft. in diameter......on lapped siding! The owner was so impressed, he hired me to do tire & detailing work on all used bikes. I absolutely Loved it! ....got to turn spanners on all sorts of machines. But alas, reality caught up with me, & I had to go back to Drafting.... due to only half the hourly rate of pay that I normally was getting being a Drafter (which I still am employed as ) But there definitely is something to be said for getting paid for doing something that I'm so passionate about. I say Go For It!.....& the best of luck to ya mate.

    I'm back too

Are you kidding? ...Of course there is! Been riding year-round for the past 20 years.... This was taken a coupla weeks ago on the way to Mt. St.Helens...this was about where we turned around & decided to take a different route. Surprisingly, the new IRC tires worked quite well in the white stuff. Now I just need to get my Ski's HotWaxed & ready for some downHill action for when I'm NOT on the bike this winter
  14. Is your XZ one with the infamous Trailing front axle?.....(aka Vision) A fork brace surely couldn't hurt any......& as Alan mentioned, I believe Telefix still makes 'em Those XZ's make a nice middleweight sport-tourer
  15. You'd be surprised just how far you can go before you actually have to adjust those valves! If you keep your oil changed frequently & DON'T over-rev the motor too much.....they'll easily go a few thou before needing adjusting. I recall getting well over 15k on my old Seca550 before actually adjusting 'em.
  16. That's pretty much a term of Endearment for Pete! Makes ya wonder what he calls the missus though.
  17. See if you can make out the VIN# on the steering head Should be able to pinpoint the year & model from that.
  18. The Japanese seem to horde all the stylish RD's Love this Daytona styled 250 from the land of the Rising Sun .... 1 of a few that I've noticed, that DON'T have a kick starter .....they must be into the LeMans derived Bump & Go starting proceedure
  19. Indeed! He shoulda joined up a long time ago.
  20. Prime example of why I don't take my bikes anywhere for service! Do it all myself & save Big Bux Plus, the more you learn about your own bike, the easier it is to troubleshoot when something goes wrong
  21. 1 from the bottom end of the AC-RD spectrum.... & a very clean example it is too! ......
  22. Only one I've ever seen as well Alex The fuel tank looks like something off an FJ600 that we used to get here.... These oddball imports from other countries always seem to look similar to other various Yamaha models-- Like a big melting pot of interchangable parts.......which I've always liked Yamaha for.
  23. Courtesy of MotoGP.com MotoGP World Champion Valentino Rossi had the opportunity to display his sheer speed on four-wheels in last weekend’s Monza Rally Show in Italy, as he teamed-up with Carlo Cassina to compete on a Subaru Impreza WRC prepared by Prodrive. The Doctor took second overall in the main event, as he was beaten by just 5.6s by Italian veteran Dindo Capello, but he shone in the final showdown which saw the drivers going head-to-head on a 1,500m gymkhana set in the main straight of the Monza circuit. Valentino Rossi has successively beaten Felice Re and Rinaldo Capello to qualify for the finale, which saw him face former WRC Champion Colin McRae. The Yamaha rider eventually took victory by just 1.390s ahead of the Scottish legend, who was driving a Skoda Fabia WRC. Rossi will be back on two-wheels next week as he’ll be testing in Sepang, Malaysia, with the Yamaha Factory team.
  24. A Brazilian 135 The head look likes the Ram-Air style, similar to the Daytona
  25.
