    MOTOGRID
  2. Maybe just experiment with mixing fuel.....a gallon @ a time.......although 32:1 seems to be a standard/safe ratio to start with ...... Make sure @ do a plug chop often to prevent running it too lean.

Acetone works great for removing any fuel stains from the crankcases.

    Got him fooled don'cha?
  5. Assuming you still have the original breather tube .......I'd just use that & be done with it.
  6. Sounds like you're gonna need a flywheel puller Easiest way to get @ that timing plate/pick-up coils......(*make sure scribe around the existing ones before you remove them)....makes it a whole lote easier when installing the new ones (if needed) Also mark the timing plate before removal as well. BTW..... to the forum

Maybe apply that tape while slooooowly rotating the wheel? ....(obviously on a paddock stand) Bike looks sweet otherwise.
  8. The XJ550 Seca was made in '81-'83 Basically, the only differences between all 3 was the color '81 White '82 Red '83 Black........(Typical practices for alot of models in that time frame)
  9. 1982 XJ550 Seca (Red) The quarter fairing was a factory item but proved NOT to be very aerodynamic.....& was removed by most of it's owners. I've had 3 of these bikes......& rode this 1 for 13 years before selling it with 130k on the clock .....

Just had my XT done in Satin Black.....which seems to be just the right amount of Shiney .....

From the pic I saw of your bike.....looks like the same type of caliper that's found on an RD.....which rebuild kits are available for.

Good to hear there Mark So, is it just pads you need for that front brake?

to the forum David Even if you can only squeeze 65mph (downhill with a tailwind )..... You'll be laughing all the way to the bank with the fuel money you'll save.

All good resto's start from a box of bits to the forum Long-Live the Blue Hue
  16. Sweet Fazer Andy! @ BTW...... to the forum
  17. Assuming your reffering to the drive chain........I'd say it's time for a replacement. During the life of a chain on my bike, I end up shortening it by 1 link (when the tensioners are bottomed out) just to prolong it's life a little bit more.
  18. Too much smoke from a stroker is ALWAYS better than not enough .....

You put a caliper rebuild kit in there & you'll be surprised @ the difference in feel! ....

I ran Dunlop Touring Elites on my 750 Maxim.......16" rear & 19" front.....VERY well planted feel with 'em .....& they were reasonably priced.
  22. YamaHead replied to brotherflash's post in a topic in Classics
A 550 Maxim is what I was thinking it could be as well.......rode an XJ550 Seca for 13 years, so became pretty familiar with 'em. The 400 & 550 were the only Maxim's that had chain drive....& the whole Maxim series has motors that are either XJ or XS.

Nice addition to the Fazer there YD
  24. to the forum Karl If you set your XT to TDC BEFORE you tear it down, then during re-assembly....install the cam sprocket as the manual noted.....You should have NO probs!.....Just did this with my 550 over the weekend.
  25. Might just be bent selector forks ......but alas that will require a full tear-down as well.
