  1. hmmmmmm, im kickstart only. Nevermind I was just curious after seeing an 04 DTr 50 sm with them. thanks for the reply pilninggas
  2. 35 years!! no wonder you call yourself oldgit! - thats a lot of riding experience tho.... something money cant buy. I used to own a DT125r years ago, here is a picture of her Selling it was the daftest thing I ever did - ( £150 ) I stuck on TZR wheels to make her into a supermoto she was the fastest DT125 EVER ( or at least I thought so at the time lol ) A completely different machine to the 50 ( ie you didnt have to thrash the balls off it to pull away from a stop ), but as I said money problems ( ie cant afford a CBT at the moment, it is low down the priority list ) stops me going down this road.... and I want to do everything above board and legaly. The unbelievable fun of even the 50 has got me hooked again tho.... it had been 4-5 years since I had a bike and I had forgotten how good it was! I even just at my folks house in the country I setup cones to make a track to learn how to handle and balance again before going back on the road to relearn how to handle a bike and enjoyed every minute of it in 18 months - 2 years I should be in a far better position financially to look for a 125 or above - I just dont want to get my hopes up just now knowing its very unlikely I can get one yet IF I found an old one ( or similar ) that needed a lot of TLC for next to nothing Id buy it ( and I mean next to nothing ) and have it as a weekend project, but its very unlikely anyhow, better go look busy.... Im supposed to be working lol have a good day paul, Bert
  3. just looked at your post.... yeah thats like the piece i removed from the silencer on mine however my welder is at my dads house boxed up somewere....cant really open the rest of the zorst I did notice on my 50 theres no manifold as such.... it just seems to plug and play and is held in by 2 springs lol.... must be so little pressure on it it doesnt need a proper manifold or something
  4. Paul, I agree they are for 16 year olds... its only for 18 months and 4 miles a day until we can get back on our feet cash wise and start building on our plot in the country....then I can go and do my bike test and get a real bike again I realise people probably think.....28 on a 50cc.... but its the most sensible thing just now since I dont require CBT or a test and means more money for my 1 year old son. Believe me im already itching to get back on a gsxr or a nice r6+ Im a novice bike wise...very experienced mechanically and electricaly with most other things...including modern cars however my bikes completely different ( im used to injector systems not carbs ) What kind of bike do you have? Have you been riding long ?
  5. lol.... sorry I didnt even notice
  6. Is it possible to add a rev counter and/or one of those LCD`s that tells you what gear your in to a DTr 50 SM ? Sorry for all the probably stupid questions.... Im very new to bikes in a modding kind of way.... but loving it all the same
  7. what restrictions are there exactly in the exhaust..... incase I missed something since im VERY new to this
  8. lmfao.... try being 17 1/2 stone on one!!! I have bored holes in the air filter housing ( still going thru the filter not bypassing it ) cleaned everything NGK Iridium plug removed the back bit of the exhaust - I was thinking about cutting the long pipe on the bit I removed and reinstalling it because its loud....altho the police were checking cars/bikes today and didnt stop me ( infact they didnt even raise their radar gun lmfao ) she does..... 60kmph on a flat 85-90 down a REALLY big hill and about 40 up one....... Not too bad for a 50cc with standard parts..... the clean made the biggest difference

Well.... I think Im going to paint my DT-r 50 SM in the near future..... is it just the same technique as painting a car bodykit? ie sand....sand and sand again ( obviously gradual between coats up to a 2000 grit..... filler plastic primer, sand sand sand, colour coat.....sand, laquer? I realise its a vague and poor description but is that how you paint the plastics? Also do you need a booth or can you get away with a wind free warm garage? ( space heater ) After I have done all the fairings I think I might strip her down completely and spray the frame as well - she`s looking a little scabby by the foot pegs! I have only had this bike a few weeks and the buzz is kicking in already...... she is just a 50 and is anoyingly slow.....however having previously had bigger bikes it brings back happy memories The wife is in dispair already..... she said I was bad enough in a car lol Bert

sorry forgot to ask as well.... how do I decoke it ?
  11. bertbuckie replied to bertbuckie's post in a topic in The Bar
Thanks oldgit I got impatient and stripped the bike today.......lol took off exhaust, plastics, petrol tank, cylinder head, carb. I found a dodgy seal on the carb and reseated it properly ( maybe air was being drawn in it? ) I cleaned the carb faces.....rest was spotless cleaned the exhaust a bit....and removed the middle bit on the silencer ( sounds fractionally louder ) de-restricted the air filter housing. checked all fuel / oil / water pipes were clear before she wouldnt even pull me up a hill in 1st..... afterwards I tried and she pulled me up in 3rd Perhaps just luck but Im not sure..... anyone else know anything else to check ?

I forgot to say..... I presumed the oil light comming on at startup was normal if the bike had sat a week or so because it might take a few mins to ger the oil through the system? anyhow...better go look busy Im supposed to be working lol Bert

Hi there.....yet again Im in need of help I took my DTr 50 supermotard out yesterday and the oil light was on. I looked in the 2-stroke mix tank tand there was plenty, and it seemed to go down after Id used the bike. She felt VERY slow, ( even slower than normal - struggling to hit 30mph on the flats and wont even go over 30 down hill - she used to go 50mph down hill ) and couldnt even pull me up small hills. I took out the plug which was black and cleaned it up but it made no difference so I have ordered an ngk iridium one. I also took the exhaust silencer apart and cleaned it and the same with the air filter but still made no difference Im new to bike servicing ect but I am unsure about the oil light ( which does go off when shes actually moving )because theres no sump ect in a 2 stroke as far as im awair.... Please someone give me some pointers....Im afraid she`s going to die or I will do more damage by running her .... on the plus side as I rode along at 20ish mph lots of real bikers waved and about 5 actually stopped for a chat with me - I was shocked they didnt take the piss of my 50 either

Thanks The bike will be used daily I thought about de-restricting it but to be honest knowing my luck Id get caught and I have 9 points as it is She`s a great wee toy but I almost got knocked off on the way home with it by some *$@& in an audi estate..... he decided to overtake while something was comming the opposite way and missed my handlebars by 6" or so and the wife was following me in the car and already is on about it being too dangerous lol

Just saying hi.... I purchased a DT-50-R SM on satarday in a bid to save money and put my car off the road ( petrol prices - join my facebook group protest if you like - http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=371188528552 ) I am 28 and 17 1/2 stone and completely standard it does 80kmph downhill and only 40kmph uphill but luckily my short trip to work is only 2 miles each way in a 30 limit I bought a 50cc because I can drive it without any need for licence as my car licence covers me however after numerous calls to the DVLA I was given very varied answers as to what I need to do to get a 125 or larger bike in the future when moneys not so tight Can anyone here answer this for me? My licence is a full uk car obtained in 1999 if that matters. Lastly... I am quite mechanically minded and intend to service the bike myself ( as I do with my cars ) once I obtain the knowlege required however I have never touched an engine with a carb before.... are these easy to setup after cleaning them ? Thanks for taking the time to read this..... I know Im old for a 50 but its good fun lol, 1st day I did 73 miles to get it home my arse was numb and a tractor overtook me..... but nevermind I managed to hold up a caravan for about 15 mins lol Bert
