2010 Yamaha World Superbike Livery Unveiled
The Italian Yamaha Sterilgarda World Superbike team, with riders James Toseland and Cal Crutchlow, unveiled its new livery for the 2010 season today at the team’s headquarters in Castiglione delle Stiviere to a host of journalists and sponsors. While slight styling differences make an appearance, such as the rider’s numbers largely displayed on either side faring, a white front fender and updated logo placement, the big news comes in the form of the added performance gains they announced from its '10 Yamaha R1Superbikes. The press release states they found an additional eight peak horsepower, lost 6.6-lbs and updated the radiator shape for increased cooling capacity and reduced drag. They are also now using a new carbon fiber fuel tank, sleeker lower fairing and updated exhaust said to boost mid range. Unlike most teams, which go to great measures to keep performance gains under wraps, the Yamaha team wanted the world to know just what they had developed for the coming season. It seems almost strange for this to be publically announced. Is it a scare tactic for the rest of the WSBK field - they are already defending series champions - or just a ploy to sell more Yamaha R1 street bikes and milk (Sterilgarda is an Italian milk company)? “The first race is coming up in two weeks and testing has been really promising after riding a GP bike for two years,” said former World Superbike champion Toseland in the release, who comes to the team after two seasons of riding for Yamaha in Grand Prix. “After the test in Phillip Island, personally and machinery-wise everything should be set to compete at the front from the first race.” Joining Englishman Toseland is fellow UK native Cal Crutchlow, fresh off winning the 2009 World Supersport title for Yamaha. Crutchlow has been impressively quick in testing this pre-season, faster than his more experienced teammate nearly everywhere they have been so far. Image upload Image hosting

Fiat Yamaha unveils 2010 YZR-M1
Yamaha unveiled the 2010 livery for its YZR-M1 MotoGP race bike ahead of the pre-season test in Malaysia. The 2009 MotoGP Champion Valentino Rossi and runner-up Jorge Lorenzo are back on the track at the Sepang Circuit ready to continue their success in 2010. “2009 was the most successful year for Yamaha’s racing activities for many years. It will be difficult to follow such a performance but we are intending to try!” says Lin Jarvis, managing director of Yamaha Motor Racing. “We are lucky to have the same fantastic rider line-up with Valentino and Jorge and we are looking forward to getting started with our work on track.” For 2010, team engineers worked at improving the M1’s chassis and extending the durability of the engines. Teams will be limited to six engines through the entire 18-race schedule or face penalties. The engine rule may have an effect on many teams’ overall strategy, especially as the season goes on. In particular, damaging an engine in a crash early in the season could put a MotoGP team in a tight situation. http://xs.to/image-2A4B_4B6BB80D.jpg The previous two seasons, Fiat Yamaha erected a dividing wall to separate Rossi and Lorenzo in the pit garage. The wall will be back in 2010, but Yamaha is taking the additional step of not sharing data between the two rivals. “This year we are taking into consideration the two riders will be main rivals for the championship. We decided to respect this internal competition, to respect their own way to race and to approach the competition therefore during the (race) weekend, the two teams will be much more independent,” says Davide Brivio, Fiat Yamaha team manager. “Of course, at the Yamaha Motor Company level, back in the factory and the office, the engineers will have access to all information but the two teams inside the garage will work more independently, even from a technical point of view.” Image hosting, Image sharing, Free Image uplaod

2010 Yamaha FZ8 first official image
After pictures of the upcoming Yamaha FZ8 were leaked onto the Internet, the Japanese manufacturer responded by releasing the first official image of the streetbike. Based on the FZ1, the 2010 Yamaha FZ8 is expected to launch in the summer as a replacement for the FZ6. Prior to the leak, Yamaha had released teaser images of both the FZ8 and its faired version, the Fazer8, also known as the FZ8R. The teaser image for the Fazer8 features a twin headlight front that looks more like the R1 than the FZ8 and its stacked headlights. http://xs.to/share-CE1E_4B613057.html Yamaha is expected to release further details on the FZ8 in March. There’s also no word about whether these models will make it to North America. Yamaha Motor U.S.A. currently lists the FZ1 and FZ6R in its 2010 lineup, but not the FZ6 which was included in the 2009 lineup. The motorcycle manufacturer had hoped to let information about this new model out in bits and bytes, but a leaked photo and Internet gossip have prompted Yamaha to show us a full-body picture. We won't insult your intelligence by explaining what you can see for yourself, but the bike does look like a good replacement for the much-loved FZ6.
