wow great post and that tour of portugal looks amazing im high jellous! I really cant make my mind up on what to get its tough. :( im sure it will be what i can afford though and whats available! i love both the yams i have owned. both fun in different ways. maybe i should get a test drive on a xt660x. i have see xt660 and drz for under 2k both tidy examples. thanks for that post though

hi mate welcome. Get a dt125r 2000-2002 in black (looks best imo) they are amazing bikes great fun. fast for a 125, simple to maintain. obviously you can get the sm versions but the dtr is just amazing fun turn off in to a field straight back to road. they are bomb proof aswell. mine got crashed, ran over by my gfs car, kicked over by a horse. picked it up starts first time . i have a xt125x atm its a great commuter. fun to ride, comfy, managed 70 on it. but it lacks that ooomph and the fun factor of a dtr. i would highly recommend either. dtr - quick, wheelies easy, easy to maintain/mod, you can actually over take people on it. 0-60 in under 8 xt125 - great for commuting, goes 100+miles on a tank, 0-60 in like 14seconds+++ lol , looks nice. Con would be doesnt feel as sturdy at the dtr and is 4stroke so sensible oh forgot to mention. you can lean over alot on the xt125x so it is fun but just not mental like the dtr. they are completely different riding experiences.

thanks for your advice thats kinda the conclusions i had come to aswell. ye the cost the ktms put me off as i need something reliable (just moved to a new house so money tight!). i like the drz they are pretty cheap and reliable from what i have read but clunky and slow? how do you find your xt660? i want something with some poke but i dont like sports bikes. maybe even something like a gsr 600 looks appealing. i loved the style of my dt even for a 125 it was amazing fun and was hoping the bigger SM's will leave me grinning after every ride

The time has come where im booking my bike test and moving up to something bigger. I am liking the KTM 625/690 SMC's, Suzuki dr-z. had a look in to the xt660x but couldnt find much positives on it. so might have to move from a yamaha. Any ideas or recommendations. p.s i would use it to commute aswell. cheers

Hi all, long shot as i cant find anything. My key broke off in the fuel cap. was like turning butter and just broke off. Where can i get another one from?! i cant find one anywhere. xt125x 09 model. Kind Regards Sam

removed battery, removed fuse. wd40 on all wires put back together. works sweet as a nut now :s

I think its the clutch that is slipping as im getting slower and slower every day and i cant change in to 5th. I was just saying someone has stolen my sprocket case :/ weird! :X

i just noticed there is no sproket cover on it :S whats going on ahhh

i tried going in 5th last nite on way home and when i changed in to 5th it revved like i had gone in to neutral and until my speed went down to like 20mph i could not change out of 5th. :/ please help anyone!!!!1 <3

i have just been told it could be a damp HT lead. will i need to replace it? or just dry it off? ty

thanks read up on that ill try it at the weekend. Think ill go over all cables with some wd40, check/change spark plug. Change oil? can i change engine oil in a 4 stroke. i know i used to alot on my dt . clean carb out, do chain etc. then ill report back. thanks 2 wheels

Hi all, been awhile since i have posted on here! I wonder if anyone can help! I have been commuting to work 30miles a day on my xt125 and after leaving it for a long weekend it would not start on monday morning. After about 15mins is started but the electric display was just showing some error. But i managed to drive to work. When i finished it was all working fine except for one thing. Once i get in to 4th i cannot go above 45mph infact it starts to slow down to eventually 38-39 mph. Now this is dangerous for me as i have to travel on a busy dual carrige way. I havent serviced it in 1000miles although its brand (previous owner did 500miles, so was serviced etc when i got it in july). Any ideas what it good be? Its kept in the dry except when its parked at work. All electrics work fine now. Just no speed. any help would be very gratefully received. Kind Regards Sam

heya i just got an 09 one with 650 on the clock. max i have had out of it was 65 down a hill in 4th gear. it gos slower in 5th for me :/. kinda sad after having a sick dt125r that got stolen that got to 75 in the same time as the xt gets to 35. the xt is great for knocking around town though just the accel and top end is pathetic. i read somewhere there is nothing you can do about restrictions??? i could be wrong and would also like to know!

cheers mate, i want same sort im not as keen on the blue/white ones be nice to get a black one again. if i cant find one my mate has a mito for sale for 600 in tidy condition but meh i dont really want to go away from a dt. i think it was worth 1100/1200 quid as a rough estimate. was in good working order. well thanx and if anyone sees anything leave a message

ty im pretty sure ill never see it again though def wasnt kids who took it. they took all my gfs dads alloy wheels 4 sets. he runs a business off his land so think they just saw the bike n thought bonus. b&stards :X

i doubt it will get recovered but i hope so gna be pretty tough to find a replacement and i need transport. any recommendations for that sort of money if i cant get my hands on a dt was thinking rs125 or a mito but id like to stay yamaha if i can!

Had my dtr stolen from my girlfriends after leaving it in a locked parking zone over night. They came lifted over fence and pushed in half a mile through a field to steal it :(. was just going to nip home at about 10:30 instead i went and locked up and stayed! its in the middle of no where. im very sad was my first bike (or motor vehicle for that matter) and i know i wont find one like it again. i bought it for 950 and it was a wreck. fixed it up mint only just really got it running perfect after purchasing at the end of january. im round the midlands DY postcode area. Bike reg WX51 LXN with dep pipe otherwise just standard black. i know its lost though =[. another query any advice on insurance claim would be much appreciated. i think its value was far more than i paid for it etc Thanks alot a very sad Samuel
